    Between 1 million to 1.5 is the estimate but I don't know. This is when they finally dropped the iron curtain in Russia so people could finally have democracy and do what they wanted. There had never really seen any worthwhile concerts from any artists from America so we decided to give a free concert over there. Metallica, ACDC, Pantera and the Black Crowes were all there. Now this was a real concert the kids wanted, not all that glam crap! Imagine if you were young and had heard about the great rock and metal from America, the UK, etc. probably had heard some of it bootleg. Wouldn't you want to go to a free concert? So yes sir this is all real, no cgi just the real thing.

    • @HeadspaceCools
      @HeadspaceCools 4 года назад +21

      They only estimated 1 million because it was really impossible to tell just how many people were there. Some people have analyzed the footage and figure it's only around 500,000... others think it is probably closer to 1.5 million, as the crowd apparently extended behind the stage almost as far out as in front. This concert likely would be holding a world record for biggest concert ever had it happened in an environment where they could properly estimate how many people were there. But this was Russia, post Soviet Union, and it was complete chaos. There are stories of the military personnel you see in the video getting so caught-up in the concert that they stripped off their uniforms and joined the crowd. Over 50 people died at this concert as well.

    A hard rock or heavy metal concert should be on everyone's bucket list, but it has to be a good band, not just anyone.

    The total attendance for the concert is estimated at 1.6 million, although the "official" tally varies and it's likely that not that many were there all at once. It was a free, daylong event that also featured AC/DC, Pantera, and Black Crowes.

    Brother, I’m an old head alright, 50. Bought Metallica’s first album, Kill ‘em All when it was released in 1983. I was 13. Check out PANTERA, DOMINATION at this exact show. Then step up to Jinjer, Who Is Gonna Be The One, for metal with ferocious bars unlike you’ve ever heard...

    Nice reaction mate. New to your channel and just about to subscribe. Prob been mention in comments previously but attendance is estimated at 1.6 million so you’re only 1.4 million out. Russian military stopped counting after letting 800k through the gates and stated their were still the same amount queuing outside still. Unfortunately 12 people died during the day. The intro is (that Jay Z sampled) what they always walk on to. It’s from the good the bad and the ugly film (1965 or 66) enter sandman was written by James Hetfield the lead singer.
    If you enjoyed this then you really need to listen to Master of puppets (all about drug addiction) and One which has one of the saddest music videos of all time. Both amazing Metallica tracks. Great job man. Can’t wait to hear more

    This concert was called “The monster of Rock” several huge bands played that night including AC/DC and other big name rock bands from the 80’s. This was the first time that American rock was allowed in Russia. Before that only boot tapes would be the only way to listen to this type of music in Russia. Estimate was 1.6 million people showed up to this concert. It was the beginning of the “Iron Curtan of the old USSR”

    That music festival was the first of its kind in Russia. It was only a year and a half after the Berlin Wall came down. This was the first time Russians were able to hear American bands live. Also, the members of Metallica wrote and composed that song and every song they play, except for a few that they covered, like Stone Cold Crazy, which was originally written and performed by Queen.

    My husband introduced me to Metallica with song( which I love), then had me listen to One by Metallica. One is heavy with a deep and sad message. If you listen watch a lyric video before you watch official video so you will understand what is going on in official video. Great reaction, great song. Stay safe and thank you for what you are doing! Prayers for you and your coworkers ❤️

    I just found your channel. Wonderful reaction! You seem to really get it. Your comments were all spot on. Metalica is amazing and Sandman is one of my all time fav songs. If you want to see a rock band mesmerize a crowd in my opinion even more than this epic video, watch RUSH perform YYZ (Live) in Rio. Just a suggestion, but you will not regret it. Should be great for your channel. Peace.
