Beautiful. I think that's the 1st Taylor I've noticed you playing. love it. Neat stuff, the guitar sounds very, very nice and I like that flat black head-stock.
@@MichaelWatts Interesting. Well it sure sounded sweet! Love the stuff you're playing there too. I have been playing my electrics (mostly Tele's) a lot recently, but I drug out my (2012?) 714ce in the past few days. I love it acoustically but I don't particularly like its highly acclaimed electronics (the Expression System 2 (ES2)). Much prefer an LR Baggs system - such as the Anthem. My son installed one in an acoustic a couple of years ago and it is very, very nice!
Watching you play motivated me to pick up my own guitar and play just now. My efforts were not in the same league but anything that gets me to play is a good thing. Thank you
I have a 2001 Taylor 12 string that my dad bought new. In 2020 he switched to a new smaller body Taylor 12 string and I got his old reliable. Talk about the soundtrack to my youth… That being said I have tried and tried to bond with a Taylor 6 string and I just can’t… When I do find one I like it’s WAY above my price range and at that point I go back to playing Eastman guitars. It is very cool to see them looking at woods that are sustainable and even overlooked. I’ll try one next time I am at Sweetwater for sure.
One of the things that Ive heard from some about Taylor including Jeremy Shepard is that they have a very good but inorganic factory build sound. I can see that some people will like the consistency of a Taylor but it’s a different thing to a hand built guitar from a good Luthier imo
@@davidchai-q9p hi David, I didn’t plug it in but my general advice for systems like the ES2 is back off the gain from the guitar itself a touch - maybe 10% and that takes some of the heat out of the sound. As far as EQ goes - a gentle smile curve is often effective for strumming. I hope that helps!
It is interesting. Less bluesy than mahogany, more rootsy than rosewood. Just damnable that they are no longer doing cedar in any of their standard models…
Soundwise, the new 514ce is the only Taylor that I liked as much as my non V-braced 914ce. I've been playing the 514ce in a video for the shop I'm working at, when the guitar was released and I can confirm everthing you wrote in your review. Here's the video we did, music starts at 10.56: ruclips.net/video/MKKIIPoPLRc/видео.html
Excellent playing. Once again Taylor has introduced another "vanilla" sounding guitar. It doesn't have any definition. No real defined tone other than clear.
Great sounds as ever!
Thank you!
Perfect companionship: the guitar gets to forget it was once a tree, and Michael gets to forget he was once a mere mortal. ;)
Ha ha! Very kind - thank you for watching Carroll
@@MichaelWatts You're most welcome.
Beautiful tone and execution..
Thank you Keith! Glad you approve

Thank you Craig! Yes, I’ve reviewed several for guitar.com over the years but this may well be the first I’ve played on this channel.

That’s great to hear Michael! Thank you!
@@MichaelWatts Btw, your Gefell mics sound incredibly good and natural as a spaced pair. Sounds like little to no post processing.
@@joebleibaum Thanks Joe - there is literally nothing done in post - all sound is captured at source

Consistency can eliminate the possibility of excellence as much as failure.
An awesome sounding Taylor! Obviously, Mr. Watts can make most any guitar sound good, but this Taylor does sound pretty special.
I try my best! Thank you for watching Cris
Hi Michael, just check with you how to EQ this model with mixer ? As mine when using ES2 into mixer the sounds super sharp and got the picks sound

@@MichaelWatts Hi Michael, thank you so much for the tips and tricks.
I'm not the biggest Taylor fan (the profil pic is a furch ;) ), but i enjoyed every second of the video! Great production and great playing!
Glad you enjoyed! Taylor is not my natural habitat either but I enjoyed this one!
it would be interesting if you compare it to your luthier made guitar
That would be interesting - and massively unfair!
I think the player contributes to the sound more than the wood. It sounds fantastic.
That is true, and thank you. That said, it is an interesting new sound for Taylor
Hey, that’s pretty nice. Not usually into Taylors but this one is good.
Glad you enjoyed it Moosey
@@MichaelWatts Always! Love your playing 😄
Some people love Taylor’s and some Martins. Live and let live! Nonetheless, that guitar has a nice ring to it.
I like both depending on the situation - and I quite enjoyed this one

Thanks for listening Hugh! Yes, this one goes right down the line.
