@@alcyonae yeah, it's the "counter force" of the magnets that's an issue. The "pressure" doesn't change equally, which makes it weird for a dog. Since the pressure, or force, required to move it changes depending on the magnet distance to each other it doesn't seem like an inanimate object.

Ungodly intelligence ( truly) combined with equal parts curiosity and fear constantly battling inside thier brains makes them look incredibly intelligent at on moment yet bafflingly terrified the next at the simplist of things. Takes a long time to figure out each of these scenarios. Sometimes they can be coaxed through the issue, other times you just learn to modify what's happening to help them move along. Not everything can be corrected or changed ( you learn that over time) so you modify what's happening or avoid it entirely. Hope that helps 😁👍

It took my husky collie wolf two weeks to figure it out, and that was only after his blue heeler sister showed him how. Leave your boys to it. They'll get it soon enough.
Reminds me of my dog. We didn't have a doggy door at our house, but my aunt and uncle did. Our downstairs area had the exact same floor plan. Our dog could figure out how to go outside to go to the bathroom on her own, but could never figure out how to get back inside via the same method. She would always just paw at the door to be let back in.

My dogs don’t like the magnetic latch that keeps the flap closed. It seems that pushing the flap hard enough to detach the magnets is… unpleasant? too much work? uncomfortable? We used a piece of fabric instead for a while until they got the hang of it, then we cut the soft plastic flap into three strips. They push through the middle (non-magnetised) strip with their head, and then they don’t even notice pushing the side strips with their shoulders.
Kane and Harvey were spending their entire lives coming to terms with the fact that you can't just pass through a locked door and now you threw such a curveball at them

My girls had a similar problem. We put a toy on a string and pulled it back and forth through the door. Took a few tries but they got the idea pretty quick.

I think that's the problem they now thing the doggy door is a human door and the sliding door is the doggy door.
