I am an Australian guy trying to live on a small footprint. I take in crew wherever I go and go where the wind takes me. I catch and gather food wherever I can.
I have no fridge or freezer, no oven, no aircon, no generator, no water heater, no watermaker ... ( and some may say no idea)

I had a similar encounter except the Hammerhead stayed much longer and it too was MASSIVE. Years later I was watching some nature show and it had a bit on hammerheads pre-attackn posture. They come to a stop, move their heads left and right, then hit. I was chilled to the bone in retrospect. It was the very same posture my hammerhead displayed. Sounds like maybe yours as well.
