I wanna ask.. Can't this manufacturers add a 48v battery to the 12v as support... Also like a way of recharging this 12v since there are apps or software that keeps running at the background
I would think so. I know all EVs have 12v batteries. I do not understand Y either. Both are DC and one would think the main battery could power everything and just use a step-down to lower the voltage for ancillary equipment. Truth is I do not know why EVs need a 12v.
The high voltage battery and onboard DC-DC converter is what normally keeps the 12V battery charged and power the 12V system. There is a fault in the programming in a bad module which makes this process not work correctly when the car is off and something else happens - such as a large incoming OTA download in the background. Best advise to avoid this issue until it is fixed is to always plug in your vehicle when not in use.

I read somewhere that you need to set the car so that it will only do over the air updates when plugged in to power and not while just sitting. There is some setting; you may have to dig through the menus, or Google it. If it tries to do an over the air update and something doesn't connect or download etc. it can drain the 12 volt battery.

Posted a comment but it was deleted (guess can't mention where to find more info on this). Anyway, this is an issue with all 2023 and Debut Lyriq vehicles if you don't plug them in when not in use. Happened to me when on a trip earlier in the week. You don't have to have it towed if you disconnect the 12V battery, charge it, and reconnect. But I see the legacy automakers have all those tricks to get in which Tesla didn't have up front. Its nice to see them still thinking about this. I think the main reason why those batteries die is that, unlike in gas cars, the EV's tend not to charge, or charge that battery as much as it needs to be. Which is problematic as it runs everything outside of the motors. I think most EV brands have had this problem at one point or another in their early days.

Sorry to see this. Every EV manufacturer with whom I’ve dealt (Hyundai, Tesla) has had issues with 12 v batteries lose juice, usually due to immature software or external apps that kept ‘waking’ the car and its electronics unnecessarily. For the Hyundai I5, I ended up carrying a compact 12 V charger (found at Costco), which saved me several times. I really hope GM gets its act together, both in terms of the implementation and, more importantly, inadequate dealer support. It was the latter that made me swear off Cadillac for good…

@@faithosadebe5293 This is already done by the high voltage battery and DC-DC converter, but a software error was preventing it from working correctly on the Lyriq. Automakers definitely need to do a better job, but a 3rd battery is not the answer.
The general public seem to think these are just a big battery and a motor, far from it, very complex, very error-prone and cannot generally fix any of this yourself.
I have some issue on my brand new lyriq i allready took car back 5 times for this issue the car is not turning on and its charged and tech guys dont know what to do whit it can you share your report whit me what was your car problem
Not sure. I am not learned enough on EV tech to answer. When the tow truck driver connected the jumping kit, the car could be shifted into N to push, but could not engage the electric motor. When you see it moving to the tow truck, that is gravity pushing it.
You can, and this is mentioned elsewhere in the comments. But you need to disconnect the 12V battery from the car to do so. This fault makes it so the car is drawing all 12V electrical power from the battery (HV battery and DC-DC converter not being used to generate any 12V power), and a standard battery charger can't overcome this load to charge the battery. If you don't do this, you can get the car into neutral with a portable jump kit, but it isn't enough power to bring all electrical systems online and drive the car.
Never heard of a Tesla bricked! I know the lyric looks better inside and outside however, at this price point reliability should be extremely strong. Can you trust your Lyric to drive cross country? Interstate? I don't think so.. you could very well end up stranded int he street waiting for flatbed to tow your car, someone to pick you up! Its extremely dangerous when it happens in the middle of nowhere!
Tesla had 12v issues early on too. As for this leading to using the LYRIQ as a local commute car only, I respectfully disagree. We drive the thing all over and love it to death. She is a wonderful car. Thx for watching and taking the time to comment.
My Tesla Y experienced IDENTICAL situation last week. The car is under warranty, so it was free and Tesla reimbursed me for the $200 tow truck bill. They installed a new 12 volt battery and all is well, once more. HUGE INCONVENIENCE but no worse than any other car I have owned
Sounds like you''re luckier than we are. Our Lyriq's right rear tail lamp went completely out. When we asked about a loaner they told us they would give is an SUV equivalant to what we have. When we got to the dealership they gave me some extremely SMALL sedan that I felt like I was sitting on the ground. They told us we were "LUCKY" to get that, because they don't do loaners anymore since covid. We drove the car for a couple of days and brought it back. It's been almost 3 weeks now and we still don't have our Lyriq fixed. We continue to drive it with no right side tail lamp ( a terrible safety hazard). Never heard anything from the dealership, so I finally called yesterday ( Friday the 21st ) and they said the part had been in since Monday, yet no body calls?? Now we are scheduled to drop of the car and get a loaner Monday. Can't wait to see what piece of crap they try to put us in this time. SMH
So mine did this today also - right rear tail light not working (fault, and fast flash on dash). After lunch, it was working. I've read this is plaguing many Lyriqs, and also an intermittent problem. Either needs connectors re-seated, or new tail light. Either way a big disassembly process, and likely the other one will fail also.

I remember when it came out thinking how it was a bold idea to combine a battery for daily commuting while still having an engine for longer trips and I had wanted to get one. @@thenetworkarchitectchannel We live in a small city (St. Cloud, MN.) so our two PHEVs suit our needs quite well. We do take longer trips of 5k+ miles each year so we take advantage of the onboard generator(s). Both vehicles still get over 70% of the original rated miles on battery-only during the summer which is sufficient for most all of our driving. The Volt only burns one tank of gas a year and that is because GM requires this to keep the gas from getting stale.

I hope they fix this issue and that it doesnt carry over to the AWD model I preordered my AWD lyriq on 9/18/21. The dealership still hasnt been allocated an AWD and just last week I finally got to go to the dealership and drive one that was RWD. I live 1 state over from tennesee. Youd think I would be driving one by now.
Happened with my 2024 AWD on same day as delivery. Had to get towed
It was the latter that made me swear off Cadillac for good…
I wanna ask.. Can't this manufacturers add a 48v battery to the 12v as support... Also like a way of recharging this 12v since there are apps or software that keeps running at the background
My 2013 Ford Focus EV also had a dead 12v and needed a software fix!
as an early adopter, you need to expect a certain amount of pain, sadly. In our case, it was not too bad. Thx 4 watching.
I have some issue on my brand new lyriq i allready took car back 5 times for this issue the car is not turning on and its charged and tech guys dont know what to do whit it can you share your report whit me what was your car problem
a few infotainment things fixed at the shop with sw updates. Seems to be working well for us currently. Hope you get it worked out. Stay safe.
Why couldn’t they recharge the battery?
@@billjohnson3344 Great explanation. Thanks for taking the time. Makes sense now.
This thing was an absolute NIGHTMARE for me. It was provably the worst car I’ve ever owned
SMH
Sounds difficult. Best wishes for a speedy outcome.
What was the loaner car?
another cadi. I forget which model/yr.
Sorry. My e-Golf is 5 years old /60k miles and still on original 12 V. At this rate I expect it to last 7 to 8 years.
When EVs get it right, they are energizer bunny reliable. ;-}
My 2013 Chevy Volt and 2014 Cadillac ELR, both PHEVs, still have their original 12v batteries.
@@rsewill12 I admire you for being a Volt owner. I remember when it came out thinking how it was a bold idea to combine a battery for daily commuting while still having an engine for longer trips and I had wanted to get one. We were not in the market for a new car though and I instead ended up with a Hyundai Ionic hybrid several years later.
@@thenetworkarchitectchannel We live in a small city (St. Cloud, MN.) so our two PHEVs suit our needs quite well. We do take longer trips of 5k+ miles each year so we take advantage of the onboard generator(s). But the tech is now over 10 years old which was very good for the time when charging at home was almost the only option unless you had a Tesla. Both vehicles still get over 70% of the original rated miles on battery-only during the summer which is sufficient for most all of our driving. The Volt only burns one tank of gas a year and that is because GM requires this to keep the gas from getting stale.
The cousin Bolt had this issue. The 2023 models seem to be fine. I run a 4k dashcam on parking mode 4k video and audio for 6hrs after I exist vehicle. Been doing this during winter and summer with no issues. I have a quick charger for my phone via cigarette lighter that displays voltage. Lowest I've seen was 13.8 and quickly jumps to 14.5 after 30 minutes of driving.
Thx 4 info & glad Bolt I going to continue to be made after yesterday’s announcement. I’m sure this situation will get worked out eventually
This is why I'm not rushing to buy a electric car
Just think you are in an accident and a fire starts and the doors all lock.
Or you cannot get in neutral to push the car to they side.
Inside the car, the door handles are not governed by the 12v. I think that is law.
@@thenetworkarchitectchannel are you sure?
In any event if you are unconscious it's still just as bad.
I think it's only the trunk has to have a mechanical release from the inside but can be wrong.
If there is no electric power none of them are opening.
Just think a held in a baby seat in the freezing cold or worse yet the 130 degree heat in the south or your dog.
By the time you get in it could be too late you have to break the window.

So much for Mary Berra;s claim of GM is #1 in the world for EV's
I don’t recall the quote u r referring to unless u r paraphrasing.
Regardless. The LYRIQ is $40k less then the ModX and I would choose to get behind the wheel of it vs the X every day of the week.
The Lyriq is not in the same class as a model x. The Lyriq competes with the model y.

Gotta love crap GM quality. My Grandpa worked in the GM plants, Unions and Teamsters destroyed GM. I'll stick with Toyota and looking forward to my American made Tesla CyberTruck which I cannot say about GM.
I actually find the quality of the vehicle above expectations. The 12v thing and other blips along the way I had figured would be in a 1st model year running on a new drive train & with a new software platform. Even Tesla had 12v issues early on. They are just several generations ahead. Enjoy the Cyber truck. Post vids. I'm excited to see.
Elon musk has just solved the issue of EV 12v batteries, by introducing 48v batteries on it cyber truck.. Did you know he also send the book on how to design 48v batteries to every EVs automakers including GM & ford😂😂😂😂.. That guys has balls.. The 48v then help Elon musk achieved steer by wire, just like your aircraft fly by wire..
From my understanding this is long overdue & glad to see Tesla take the leadership. I hope everyone else follows. Thx 4 watching
