  • This post-doom conversation with resilience and wilderness survivalist expert, TV star, and author, Juan Pablo Quiñonez, was recorded in August 2023. From JP's website -- jpquinonez.com/ -- "There are plenty of skilled and knowledgeable survival experts out there, but few have truly tested their abilities through multi-month experiences. I'm one of those few. My survival philosophies are not man vs wild, or macho survival bs. I focus instead on learning from the land, developing a survival mindset, and on skills/stuff that actually works in real survival."

    Connie we are thinking of you and your family. Michaels care and message has reached far and wide and I’m sure many others feel just as blessed and honored as I do to have come across Michael’s work and feel the love and warmth he exuded.
    I feel lucky to still have these videos and his wonderful voice to remember him by.
    We’ll all return to the soil one day and I know Michael will continue on as part of the greater Thou of our creator, sustainer, and end.

    Michael I'm sad beyond words that you have gone. You are irreplaceable. We will now have to face what's coming without your spiritual perspectives and that's a terrible loss. Thank you for your unique contribution. Thank you for your spirit and energy within this community. Condolences to Connie and Michael's family.

      Same here, I just heard about his passing yesterday and just couldn't even sleep last night...I listened to an Environmental Coffee house podcast with Michael Dowd from two years ago, I've probably listened to all of his post doom videos the last few years...he has helped keep me sane while dealing with my anxiety about the coming ecological collapse

      😢 I just heard about his death on Saturday evening and could hardly sleep the last two days. Michael Dowd helped me so much the past few years by listening to his RUclips videos over and over again, and he was kind enough to reply to one of my comments to offer support and encouragement as I struggled with the anxiety of coming ecological collapse. I live in Indiana and we were in Michigan for vacation in September, I had thought of contacting Michael to see if we could meet him for lunch in Ypsilanti but my wife was more excited about spending time with her friends so I didn't even take time to contact him...I learned another important lesson to go with my instincts and intuition especially on things like that. 😢 He was an amazing man who wanted to let everyone know how to live in a time of impending human extinction

    Phenomenal conversation! Excellent example of Finding Feral as a way to live grounded in collapse acceptance. "Slowly changed my allegiance from civilization to nature." Yep yep yep! High Fives way up JP - and big thanks MD!

    RIP Michael. Thank you for all the work you’ve done. Learning about the truth of collapse has given me so much relief. To quote Fight Club, “Losing all Hope was Freedom.” Hope in the unsustainable modern economy is ephemeral. Accepting nature is what set me free.

    Given that the earth is only capable of supporting 2 to 3 billion people and there will not be any way of supporting 8 billion people into the future or the 10 or 1 billion by late century I think there is value in being childfree. Our numbers will be reduced by choice or not. Voluntary is less painful. I am childfree.

    • @thegreatstory
      @thegreatstory  Год назад +10

      When Earth was more or less pristine, she could support only a half-billion people. Of course there is value being child-free! AND it ultimately doesn't matter now. 90-99%% of our species (and most vertebrates and mammals) will perish in the coming decade or two, regardless of anything we do or don't do collectively or individually.

    As in-tuned of a man as he seemed to be, I can't help but wonder if Micheal, on some level, sensed his own death coming from whatever this cause was, in a way that influenced his orientation to NTHE. Along with the ecological data, of course.
