Good to see Marley still doing his thing. I lived on the fourth floor and Marley lived on the second. I used to put my ear to living room wall and hear a lot of these classics being created. I finally got a chance to meet him through a friend of mine, and sat in many sessions with the juice crew. I will never forget this lifetime experience.
Hip hop wouldn't be where it is today without the early contributions of this legend. He let us know "I don't care what y'all gonna do, but it's gots to be funky!!!!!!"
Wow, Marley Marl recreating the classic cut Eric B. is President. This man is so humble and real to just be interviewed and share the secret ingredients to one of Hip Hop's biggest and best cuts. Thank you Marley...
+KaizerMan whoa whoa..Pete Rock represents New Rochelle or as we called it "Now Rule". The Bronx? is straight Boogie Down Productions. So much so, that some folk still call it the Boogie Down Bronx.
The whole of the Great Britain loves you, Rakim, Eric B, James Brown and Mr Clyde stubberfield for this and many more classics!!! You have added so much to the culture, this rocked our jams and carnivals in 1986!!! God bless HipHOP!!! we will never stop.....Hijack Uk 1988 to 2013>>>>PEACE!!!!!!
"Limitations made us what we were." -- That was the truth for SO many different upcoming genres of music. It really made producers push the limits of what they could do and explore and try new things and really further the music. Great video!
Classic music like this is timeless...ITS STILL ROCKS TODAY. I was in elementary when these songs came on....And I STILL LOVE IT TODAY... I LOVE THIS TYPE OF HIP HOP...
These are just mind blowing to me. I grew up with these records, and believe me they took alot of finding in the uk. I learn't to scratch by listening to Marley, from Marley Scratch onwards.... Thanks so much for doin these :-)
A true Master Class from one of the Maestro one of the greatest rap producers of all times. Limitations makes you selective. Ghost notes thank you Sir.
I am from Los Angeles and I'm about 50+, however i use to remember listening to Marley Marl over and over and over again.. Super dope and don't get his just credit.. The architect of Hip Hop
Appreciate this man! Long time comin'... Thanks for blessing us. True pioneer in every sense of the word 'producer'. It's funny. You hear how he spoke of 'limitations' and how it forces you to be creative and learn how to turn knobs to get certain sounds. All I can say it experiment, experiment, experiment! Yes you need good samples and but even still it's what you do with those samples that makes something dope.
First of all these videos are just incredible. Thanks. Before I even stumbled upon these Marley Marl 'Classic Recipes" videos, I was just saying to someone the other day that Marley was my all time favorite producer in Hip Hop. Number 1 in my top 5. Coming here and watching this only solidifies that opinion. :)
Truly amazing. I feel so honored and lucky to grow up and experience the golden age of hip hop. I remember hearing Rakim in my sophomore year in high school.
Str8 Jewels!!! I know what 2 do now. Thank you Mr. Marley Marl. Not just 4 the vid, but for making magic and me being lucky enough to hear it young. Me at 47, you bring them feelings back. Thank you. Been a fan, ya dig.
Wow, glad I caught the tweet that took me here. The essence of hip hop boiled down to all it's constituent parts by the true master. I feel honoured & educated having seen this.
Yeah, this is definitely one of my favorite series. Thanks again for the history lessons and the knowledge that can most definitely be used today. Peace
Marley marl true genius.one of the world's greatest djs.and producers.wen u work hard real ogees.show love old school or new school dj s teach and show respect shout out two dj marly.marl and producer.who did rakim first album the beats dj jus us we in the house
this is awesome. been searching for something like this. i'm fascinated by the behind the scenes process of producing music; and hearing stories about how the classic records got made is incredible. thanks
Amazing person, this Marley Marl dude! 😎 He's a legend. Remember his productions from my first vinyl records as a kid. And I wholeheartedly agree on what he's saying about creativity arising from limitations - and making those 4 tracks COUNT. Rock. Nowadays, with DAWs and unlimited tracks, many producers tend to use way too many sounds and elements for their own good. We're not Wagner (the classical composer) you know;)
This song was genius, and is still a classic in my book! I remember hearing check out my melody for the 1st time and I thought it was the rappin' Duke because of the slow flow. NOT! Shan says on his video that he played the keyboard on Eric B. is president, But this shyt is still tight to me. I like the original version over the remix tho.. That's just me tho. Rakim is the best that ever done it! Thanx for the video Marley.
Marley Just makes the art of sampling incredible. I just got back the grin of sampling listening to him explain the science behind the making of true hip hop. There's nothing like having to sit and listen to vinyl samples and placing 0.5 sec kicks, snares on a Limited 12 second SP1200. Our Culture was unique and a one time event. What fun we actually had.
I grew up with your mixes. You are genius. All this time I thought that you just was mixing music not actually producing. I see now the thought behind and actually the genius behind what you was doing. buffalo gals , kraftwerk, afrika , to the show...dude you r genius!
PeaCe! These are always inspiring and they influence me to be original, also keeping me from making that cookie cutter mud you hear today. I think the reason why music like this doesn't get made today is simply because producers just don't know the recipe. Anyway keep 'em coming, s/o to Marley Marl. I wouldn't mind seeing "Ain't No Half-Steppin'" recreated there was like 6 samples in that jawn. PeaCe!
Good to see Marley still doing his thing. I lived on the fourth floor and Marley lived on the second. I used to put my ear to living room wall and hear a lot of these classics being created. I finally got a chance to meet him through a friend of mine, and sat in many sessions with the juice crew. I will never forget this lifetime experience.
back in them days it was all about the dj. now its all about the rapper.
Hip hop wouldn't be where it is today without the early contributions of this legend. He let us know "I don't care what y'all gonna do, but it's gots to be funky!!!!!!"
why did u guys stop classic recipes, this is amazing
@@HD-tg2kn really
@@Jolynenizuma22 missunderstood it
Because he took samples from people with out paying them lol
The school got shutdown for robbing people
@@levijones7836 he didn’t even know he had to pay for the samples before
Wow, Marley Marl recreating the classic cut Eric B. is President. This man is so humble and real to just be interviewed and share the secret ingredients to one of Hip Hop's biggest and best cuts. Thank you Marley...

Marley Just makes the art of sampling incredible. I just got back the grin of sampling listening to him explain the science behind the making of true hip hop.
