Only place this might be remotely possible is shortly before touchdown (still with much force, like with Asiana Flight 8124). EDIT: shortly before touchdown there is no danger of decompression

I was once seated next to the emergency exit door on a flight and the flight attendant gave me and the other two passengers firm instructions to not let anyone near it and basically defend it with our lives. I'm barely 5 ft. tall and the other 2 passengers were more like me in stature and we were looking at each other like 👀. Needless to say, I was anxious the whole time.
That was a mental breakdown not terrorism. He said he wanted off the plane. Some people just don't do well being locked up in a small space for an extended period of time.

I find it interesting that passengers claimed to hear a whooshing sound. I understand they were in a stressful situation but there’s no way he would have forced it open enough to allow air through. If they had truly heard air escaping the plane, then there likely would have been explosive decompression due to all the air trying to escape, not to mention the pressure difference would have made it nigh impossible to force the door open.

This is a simple fix. No seats by the emergency exits. Not sure why they put seats there anyway if lots of people have to get out quickly. Safety should be #1 priority over cramming more people on to make even more money.
So anyone can open the exit door, while plane flying? Where’s safety protocol? Why don’t airlines lock the exit door, where only the flight crew can open? Too many crazy passengers on board…

Even if it were possible to open that door, the rapid decompression would be so violent and quick that no one would "feel" anything at all.

My gosh. That must've been a horrifying thing to have experienced. Thank goodness that people gathered up and stopped this lunatic. I can't even begin to imagine the terror had he been successful. I'm glad that everyone is safe and i'm glad that he is going to jail.

Man 2024 is a wild year for flying. So many strange things going on.
I find it interesting that passengers claimed to hear a whooshing sound. I understand they were in a stressful situation but there’s no way he would have forced it open enough to allow air through. If they had truly heard air escaping the plane, then there likely would have been explosive decompression due to all the air trying to escape, not to mention the pressure difference would have made it nigh impossible to force the door open.
Got to assume he was panicked.
Anytime, anybody does something like this they should be charged with attempted murder for everyone on that plane.
