  • In this video, we get an insight into the "Great Green Wall" project in Mauritania.
The Great Green Wall is an African-led initiative launched by the African Union in 2007, aiming to restore 100 million hectares of degraded land across 22 African countries in the Sahel region. With over USD 8 billion already raised, the project seeks to create economic opportunities, ensure food security, and enhance climate resilience for communities along its 8000 km span. By 2030, the initiative aims to sequester 250 million tons of carbon and generate 10 million green jobs, contributing to the revitalization of landscapes and improvement of lives in the region.

Great video. I'd love to help with the Great Green Wall project after retirement! I still have 15 years, but one day I'll make it. Until then, I'll practice desert farming techniques in America. I'll see you one day!

Do NOT import Mesquite trees from the Americas. It's a horrible weed.

Good job, keep up the good work. I would like to help as well. Got to fight the desert once it used to be full of trees 👏

It is regrettable that the emphasis of the project should be on improving agriculture and the situation of the inhabitants. Planting trees should be an end in itself; as long as hungry camels remain in the area to be planted, there can be little progress towards greening.
