- Negotiations are resuming in Qatar to finalise a ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip and for the release of hostages, with signs that Israel and Hamas are on the brink of an agreement.
A Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations has told the BBC that, for the first time in the war, delegations from Israel and Hamas are conducting indirect talks in the same building.
Hamas is also said to have dropped its condition for Israeli troops to leave the Strip.
US President Joe Biden said a deal was "on the brink" of coming to fruition. An Israeli official also told news agency Reuters that a deal was possible in "hours, days or more".

I'm saying it first. Netanyahu will announce the deal and the release of the hostages on Monday the 20th after Trump is sworn in. This he will do so that he'll be able to do whatever he wants for the next four years without interruption from the US.
Fact is that Netanyahu could have had a deal done much earlier and spare the hostages continued pain, suffering and potentially death, but he's more interested in himself and is using the hostages as a political toy. The hostage families should be outraged.

Qatar became a British protectorate in 1916 after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Britain's interest in Qatar was to prevent other powers from gaining influence in the area.
