  • Did Chevy’s S10 finally push Japanese mini-pickups back into the Pacific Ocean? Sort of. Steve explores a 1985 S10 4x4 with the spiffy Tahoe appearance package and desirable short bed body style.

In '88 when the 4.3 was put in these trucks it changed them for the better. '90 was the year that the 5 speed was slapped in them with the 4.3.

I had a 2001 S10 4x4 that I bought used in 2002. Kept it for 12 years. Other than ball joints, the driver side front hub assembly, and a patch panel on the passenger side rear cab, nothing but maintenance. Those were darn good trucks. Mr Magnante, counting the days until we see you again. Still pulling and praying for you sir ~ Chuck

4.3 have two issues that kill em. Lower intake manifold gaskets and the poppet valves gum up on the scfi assembly
Address those issues and they go forever if it doesn't rot away 😞

We had a 2000 blazer and front hubs and ball joints was the only problem just like you had. I wanted to keep it but I was convinced to trade it in on a 2011 Silverado that I only had for two years.

4X4 S10s did eat up ball joints too fast. The 4.3L was the only way to fly. 🆒

I worked with a young engineer on the east coast in the early 90s and he bought a red one, V6 loaded and then loaded it with more aftermarket gear like a winch and roll bar/lights etc. In the fall of '22 I was down east and there at the little store in his hometown was buddy and his still pristine C10. I beeped and he waved but I doubt he knew who I was because I have gone through a dozen vehicles since then. He drove away too fast for me to get him to stop. Cheers 🇨🇦

I miust have had 5 or 6 S-10's pickups, starting with the first year they came out. That 82 had a 5 speed manual that siezed up. Factory recall replaced it and I drove that truck and few others well over 250,000 miles. My last one was a 94 4x4 with the ZR2 pkg. Along with the trucks I owned 4 of the S-10 Blazers. Great vehicles especially the ones that had the 4.3L. Thanks for the memories Steve!

60 degrees is the optimal angle for a V6, for balance. 90 degrees is the best for V8s. 90 degrees V60s are a cost cutting option because they based it on a V8 and could produce it on the same assembly line as the V8s.

I had a boss who collected and restored antique cars. While over the years he bought and sold a fair number of vehicles from the 20s 30s 40s & 50s, to him anything built after WWI was a modern car. He loved brass era Model Ts as well as the rarer makes from that era.

People love these things, including myself. I'm 44 and these were pretty popular trucks when I was young. Went to high school in '96 with a kid that stuffed a blown 383 stroker into one. Would do rolling burnouts at highway speeds, and you could hear him coming from the other side of our subdivision. I bet some idiot would still pay $8k right now, as it sits.

I bought a brand new 1993 S-10 Tahoe, 2 wheel drive, standard cab, 2 door, short bed, bench seat, 2.8L V6, 5 speed transmission. I still have it. It has been through many iterations. It now has a 383ci V8 and 4 speed. It was a drag racer for a while, but I developed some medical issues and had to give up drag racing (after 40+ years) so I tore it down and rebuilt it as a street drivable hot rod. Hard to believe it's been over 3 decades since I bought it. 1993 was the last year for the square body S-10. I was never a fan of the second generation S-10. Get well soon Steve.

It's now the home of Fuyao Glass. So sad. So many jobs lost when Truck and Bus shutdown. And for every job at the factory there were 8 more in the community that also went away. Dayton is a shell of itself. Used to be the #2 or 3 place in the nation for industry and machining. I was a machinist. There were 400 machine shops in Dayton in the 80s \ 90s.
      Edit according to industryweek:
But the loss of major corporations only tells part of the story. In the 1980s Dayton had more than 600 machine shops, but by the 1990s the number had fallen 50%.

These things to toss a 350 can still be done for so cheap to have a very capable hunting rig. You can still daily. All the vacuum stuff stock could be such a pain in the butt. Since 350 fits so easy I'm sure modern ls could still work super well. With that much more power problems with rest of drive train probably more evident. I honestly believe these are going to become much more desirable eventually. The same with all the actual frame mini trucks.
