It already has since Katrina and before.
Louisiana has been trying to relocate those residence for years and they have refused every offer. It is well known that it's sinking and one day the water will no longer recede. That day may be today.
Sad thing is there was new construction going on of $500k homes and now everything is gone.
Actually, I live 10 feet above sea level here. But thanks climate expert.

I live in Matthews. The damage is pretty significant and it may takes weeks, but we can rebuild.
Grand Isle however, is a lost cause. The island barrier might never pop up back on the map ever again. 50-60% of all structures there are complete destroyed. The island keeps sinking 1.2 inches every year. It’s done.
i ask God to help New Orleans and Lousiana. I ask them to bless the hands of these heros to help these people to safety. No one on Earth deserves to go through this. I ask God to help these people to safety. I am very devestated and sad that this happened. Please continue to pray for these people and if there are any donations please donate and im encouraging this and help these states that got hit bad. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽They need our help.
Just got Arial photos of where my dad's fishing camp on the cherniere and all the camps wiped out. Gone washed out into the bay behind it. Th eye wall had them camps for dinner. So sad😭😭😭😭😭

Why live in an area that gets hit every year? Why not leave knowing u are living in a low lying areas with gators about? Where is common sense?!? Govt should pay off homes to residents, deem the islands uninhabitable.
Because many of these people have lived there for their whole life. And their parents too. And theirs too. This place is home and has been for a long time.

That satellite image you trying to compare is before the storm hit and during with 12ft surge covering the island. Don't mislead everyone check modis one week from the 29th of Aug when the water goes down.
Send in drones to see what is all there and map a way to get them out.

when people stay they have the assumption that when the storm passes even if theirs damage their will still be general means of communication, and the ability to travel.... and thats mostly far from the truth. Power and electricity goes down, even if its up it will likely go down by measure of safety until the, electrical grid is looked over and repaired. Then theirs flood water. No means of basic hygean utilities such as use of a bathroom. Its all the things that you dont think about which are the very reasons to never stay during a truly major storm.
