My maternal family are from Glandore. I now live in Sandown and Ryde on the Isle of Wight and spend an awful lot of time just sitting by the shore (with cider :-D ). This song breaks my heart but in a good way.
@@paolobenmore3504 It captures the sense of extreme claustrophobia many of us felt growing up and the desperation to get out - to escape and break free.
@@ptracey44 I get it. When one was young a certain perspective was different. I also think the irony is that when you get older and more laid back you wish or have a desire to live on the coast where it is lively but more relaxed, not like say London or a big city. I also remember as a young man back in the early 1980's a sense of hopelessness with many people in the city although it was a damn great time for music and arts and creativity.
Love it, fantastic effort. I bought this single and subsequently the album but cant help feeling sad as had just turned 18 when this was in the charts and I'm wondering where the years have gone.
Had it on the Jukebox at Joint Service Mountain Training Centre (JSMTC) in 1988, played it every evening when not out on exes, loved it, takes me right back.
waterford is a long way from coastal towns like south end !! he might have wrote this about some where else but always reminds me of south end and how grim it is !! waterford is not grim !
This is excellent, thank you for sharing. I would like to show this to my French BTS (HND) students as inspiration for a similar communications project. Where did you film this?
Thank you Carl. Feel free to show it whoever you would like. I filmed it in a small seaside town in Ireland called Tramore. The entire video was filmed on a Samsung S7 phone and edited with Adobe Premier Pro.
@@gerardfitzgerald4123 Thank you Gerard. I wonder how much the original Morrissey (and a bit cheesy IMO) video cost. I know where Tramore is from visiting Waterford a few years ago with a group of students. A lovely part of the country (it all is really...) I will visit Ireland again in March this year for St Patrick's Day and take in some countryside. If you do any more stuff like this video, let me know please. I often try to mix music and creative English. We're doing 'Never Mind the Bollocks' at the moment! Good luck with your studies. 🙂
Who ever did this you did a good job and you are paying homage to one of my favorite songs
Thank You Justin
Video is so apt! 👍

Great sound and video, thank you very much for posting this 😊. This is probably my favorite song by Morrissey
