    Never thought of collecting and growing tulip seeds but will do so next year. Thanks for making it look so easy.

    I’m excited! I have some beautiful tulips that I let go to seed and I’m hoping to propagate the seeds once they are ready. On a side note, loved your humor!

    Enjoyed this, do all tulip seeds look the same, and usually what time of year do you collect them? Mine have just flowered now.

    Will this technique work for any bulbs? I am trying to grow some Camas and Erythronium spp. from seed and I wonder if this would work.

    does letting a tulip go to seed ultimately destroy the bulb?

    Two of my tulips went to seed this year how long do i wait to take the seed pod off till they are brown and starting to crack open? The are both still a bit greenish. Want to try this.

    Thank you for this great video. I have a question: I have a tulip pod from this year which is not brown yet. Should I dry it and wait for it to turn brown, or should I just go ahead and cut open?

    • @FigaroHey
      @FigaroHey Год назад +1

      Leave it alone in the garden until it dries naturally. You'll be able to her the seeds rattle drily inside the pod, and you'll be able to slip the entire dry tulip stem out of the ground with no effort at all. Don't pick them green. Green things have moisture, and moisture can lead to rot, plus the seeds may not be mature yet if you pull off the heads when they are still green.

    Hi, I’ve been bought some tulips and their flowers have now dropped but they have left seeds. What would you recommend on growing thwm? Dry them or plant straight away?
    Enjoyed this video. Thank you

      Sorry for being so slow to reply. Alan says if they're shop-bought tulips they may be sterile, but there's no harm giving it a try. You'd need to let the seed pod dry out first before planting. Hope that helps. And thank you so much for watching 💚

    What is the grit you layered on top of the tulip seeds? TY Alan

    • @GetgardeningnowUk1
      @GetgardeningnowUk1  2 года назад

      Hey! In the UK it's called Horticultural Grit, but we've been told by viewers elsewhere in the world it can be called Chicken Grit. Any kind of fine grit should do :)

    I searched for horticultural grit here in the US, not finding it. Would poultry grit be the same?

    • @GetgardeningnowUk1
      @GetgardeningnowUk1  3 года назад

      Hey! We've been talking this over and we're not entirely sure what it's called your side of the pond, but you're looking for a coarse grit, quite big. Hope that's of help!

    • @FigaroHey
      @FigaroHey Год назад

      The whole idea of horticultural grit seems to be a UK thing. Can't find anything like it in continental Europe and nobody gardener I've asked has any idea what I'm talking about. Probably they use some light sandy soil in other countries. I should think that aquarium grit or any tiny pebbly stuff would work the same. It's just to keep the seeds down, stop weeds, and not bury the seeds deeply, as well as stop the seeds floating around on top of your soil if you water from the top.

    Will tulips grow in tropical countries like Sri Lanka? Please reply

    • @florianwolf9380
      @florianwolf9380 2 года назад

      Well, yes, they will - but only for one season, as your climate is tropical. Provided you are able to get tulip bulbs in / into Sri Lanka you need to store them for 6 to 8 weeks in the veggie compartment of your fridge, then plant them in good garden soil & treat them like any other flower in your garden. They will grow, flower, and then most likely collapse from the heat. However, if you take out the entire plant after flowering you may be able to rescue the bulbs. Let them completely dry off, into the fridge they go again, and the next cycle starts again. Please note that your wet / monsoon season is the time where the bulbs should NOT be in the ground, but in your fridge. Good luck & happy gardening from Australia !
