    This is probably the standout scene from the film although the dialogue and visuals are just amazing throughout (the darkened sun, hands outstretched etc). If I'm honest it did really scramble my brain the first time around (but often the best films do) and I've not been able to watch it again since. I have however watched this clip again and again. It's not accessible but it is a classic and brilliantly written, acted and directed. Watch the full film. You won't regret it. Thanks for posting.

    There's an unnerving sexual undertone to all the interactions between O'Neil and Whitehead. Considering Whitehead walks back out fully dressed and in some kind of trance-like state, it's more likely that O'Niel just performed some kind of alchemy ritual rather than literally violating him, but it still has that rape-y feel to it.

      @@AJ-tp9bk after watching this for years, i think i understand what might be going on. i think he gets tied up so he cant move, gets smacked across the face which is why he bleeds out of his mouth a little bit, and is forced fed mushrooms in some vague attempt to give him divination powers, which explains why he screams from terror (most peoples experiences with bad mushroom trip) but then comes walking out of the tent with a smile and bliss (mushroom peak after dosage sets in)

    Is it just me or doesn't the haunting song in this theme remind anyone of something that Brian Eno would have composed? I hear it and it brings to mind the Prophecy theme from the 1984 David Lynch big screen adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune.

    • @absolomhumblebug7654
      @absolomhumblebug7654 11 лет назад +8

      Thematt7890 The screaming clearly represents a possession state, as one sees in Candomble or Santaria, or even in Christian rituals etc. which sufferers describe variously as the pain of giving birth or as pure ecstasy, sometimes both. I didn't find it particularly odd.
