    Gotta say the stump from that side is the way to go mate Levers on the other side if keys are available to carry on using the lock but the stump is the there too ,so stump and new lock fitted is my thought process

      Do you mean on the Invincible from the bolt side pal? You’re right I don’t fuck about drilling for the lever pack when it’s right mounted too much of a pain in the ass!

  • @levi501ize
    @levi501ize 4 года назад +3

    yes indeed. measure, check and recheck and drill. learnt my lesson years ago on a green case 5 lever sash lock .even being 3mm out, caught the edge of the shims between the levers and the whole stump came completely off .and levers dropped down on steep angel. made it a right bitch of a job, was a right hand fit with 1" rebate and draft exclude fitted.

      @FortressLocksmiths  4 года назад

      Did the same other night myself pal , failed sashlock so I aimed for the stump but left a little corner on it so levers dropped down like you said and then proceeded for what felt like the longest 2 hours of my life trying to drag the bolt back with a screwdriver.....stuff of nightmares

      Haha that’s the one pal! I have a box of old mortice locks in the back of my van so if you really need to you can just take the lock apart and measure exactly from the top of your keyhole where you want to be 😎😎

    When you’re drilling out the locks are you using tungsten carbide masonry drills or those special carbide sharp drills and the milling bits you use whereabouts do you buy them I love your videos and I do learn things about lever locks all the time so thank you

    • @FortressLocksmiths
      @FortressLocksmiths  4 года назад +1

      I use hardplate drill bits (TCT) to start with, then a normal HSS bit once I’m through the hardplate and then finish with an end cut milling burr (see my other video about drilling Securefast locks)?

    I know it sounds silly but i never actually realised that the components layout is the same irrespective of whether its left or right mounted! So the side the bolt portrudes from differs but the internal parts will be the same its just whether the body is facing left or right that differs?

  • @1Pompeywhite

    why do you always shows locks in a vice? show us some in doors, in situ. How are you supposed to identify which Mortice lock it is when there's a door around it?

    For right monuted, would you not just measure and drill the stump out?

    • @FortressLocksmiths
      @FortressLocksmiths  3 года назад +2

      I’m not a big fan of drilling for the stump don’t get me wrong I have , but there’s a few scenarios that would make you think twice. First is that the drill point wouldn’t be concealed by handles etc, 2nd is if it’s a long thin stump like a Securefast or Viscount you’d probably have to drill it twice to actually get it and the 3rd is if you leave any of the stump at all even if it’s just a mm the lock won’t open so when it’s right mounted you can’t see where it is

    Hello bud how many locks do you have to drill open compared to picking open just rough count and what is your preferred way in drill or pick

    • @FortressLocksmiths
      @FortressLocksmiths  3 года назад +2

      To be honest I very rarely drill nowadays, I’d rather sit there for an hour trying to pick it before I drill, in some cases where there’s a broken part like a faulty curtain then you have no option. It’s the thing I practice the most picking lever locks
