  • In this tutorial, we continue our series on the Trotec rotary attachment and take a look at how to laser engrave rolling pins. Rolling pins are a great project to tackle because most designs on rolling pins need to go all the way around the circumference of the pin itself, and getting this to work takes a little bit of practice and precise measurements. We will cover how to measure the circumference and length of the working area on the rolling pin and how to create a template file in CorelDRAW to ensure the artwork matches up correctly.
It's critical to measure everything properly and take our time when doing this because even a slight measurement error can result in a gap between where the two pieces of artwork come together, ruining the project. We will show you how to measure the diameter of the rolling pin and multiply it by pi to get the circumference, or measure the circumference directly. We'll also cover how to extend the image past the sides of the rolling pin to compensate for any measurement errors.
We will walk you through the process of creating a template file in CorelDRAW, where you can place a picture of the rolling pin, indicate the length, diameter, and circumference, and leave a space for the artwork. This technique is helpful because it gives the operator information about the rolling pin and visually confirms that they're using the right rolling pin for the template job. We will show you how to use a power clip to cut out the information, lock the page, and unlock the container to place the artwork inside.
Once you've set up the template file, we will show you how to print it and set up the job control software. We will explain how to turn the page 90 degrees and ensure that the artwork snaps to the marker in the plate to make sure everything lines up. We will also show you how to use the red dot pointer to align the artwork properly, so it wraps around the rolling pin as intended.
Finally, we will demonstrate how to use a cone system to hold the rolling pin in place and engrave the artwork on it. We will explain how to ensure that the edge of the cone doesn't get in the way of the engraving, and show you the difference between masking and non-masking on the rolling pin. We will also provide tips on how to remove the residue from the rolling pin after the engraving process is complete.
In summary, this tutorial will provide you with a step-by-step guide to laser engraving rolling pins with Trotec laser. It covers everything from measuring the circumference and length of the rolling pin to creating a template file, printing it, and setting up the job control software. By the end of this video, you'll be able to laser engrave rolling pins with precision and ease, making it a valuable addition to your laser engraving business.

Good tips on what to watch for! Can’t watch Mike again. Someone needs to count the number of times he says “again”.
