JJK understands sometimes you gotta get ya boys and jump the villain
Jujump Kaisen indeed
and run away when you aren't strong enough
Tru
Maki figuring out Naoyas technique is one of my favorite puzzle solves in the series. We see many people confused by his movement and when someone finally figures it out he’s cooked
and its also cuz the guy was egoist and didnt use a weapon he would've won in the start lol
@NehaanTheMCtrue! He coulda been way more capable with it. I also like that hes one of the few people who doesn’t use the “disclosing your technique” biding vow because it would actively give his enemies a way to counter it and out way the benefit of the vow
@NehaanTheMC that just shows and proves plot armor was on maki side and they basically nerfed naoya from being a “real problem” 😂
@blehfaygoThat’s not even plot armor. It’s a flaw of Naoya’s character
@NehaanTheMC It wouldn't matter. The weapon would just shatter
Also ppl like hand to hand a lot
yes , other series have alot of energy blasting and thats just not appealing
Thats why people love Jackie Chan.
Its the choreography not just hand to hand, alot of them use weapons
@StinkWeenRI made that comment aswell
Not hand to hand like dragonball but actual martial art / fightsyles
There is a reason why JJK is called Jump Kaisen
it either jumps our minds or the characters jump each other
@remember-me-v6efacts
Nah it’s called jjk bc oh John John kaisen
thanks yuji kaisen
True, Child.
Same reason I feel like jojo fights are memorable. It’s people using their powers smartly and making strategies to win and not just overpowering their opponents.
I was gonna type sum bout JoJo's unless I saw a comment good stuff brethren
Half the time (and more) it's Bs with the most contrived get out jail cards (looking at you Joseph) how they get out of it though
@UnifiedEntity atp I think its just for the love of the game 😹
@UnifiedEntity nga ur pfp is sung mid woo you cant talk 🥀💔😭
@RealSamsumfrWell I'm not talking, I'm typing out text for you to read 🤷🏾.I've had this pic years before you and the rest of the peanut gallery saw the trailer of the anime 😂
The JJK fights are jaw dropping! Very consistent. I can't wait for more!
Megumi will solo grade 1s
Trust me
@J-Specter-c3h bro couldn't even beat a grade 2 at the start of the anime😭[ik he beat a finger bearer but i still wanna slander]
@andreiyoha don't switch up when he does
@andreiyoha Idk if you're a manga reader or not. But I won't spoil much
Would just say that, you gotta watch out for Megumi this season
He's about to beat those damn allegations
@Vanillustt my goat is finally gonna shine this season
The fights in Jujutsu Kaisen have pretty much everything that makes action work. Fantastic animation, strategy, and emotional motivation.
ngl man, I don't think we can call it Strategy. it's more like jumping
Honestly, my favorite part about anime fights are the choreography. Even the flips and acrobatics, but my favorite parts are how satisfying the punches and kicks feel with good choreography.
@KingOfSarkaz2 even the most infamous jumping, nanami and yuji vs mahito, they had to figure out a strategy before they got to the part where they beat the ever living shit out of mahito
That because its animated by Mappa. A studio can make or break an anime.
and fear for main cast, you never know when Gege decides its their time to go
It is also nice that your more focused on how yuji would fight choso and not "is yuji gonna unlock a new secret ability???"
he didn't unlock new abilities, just made good use of previously established abilities like "brotherhood hallucination" 😌
@lepidoptery self inflicted ability btw
Also one of the reasons why I love jjk is like their jumping. It always pisses me off that one character just fights a another character who is way stronger than him and other just watch and sit their for no reason
Is hard to choreograph and make look cool the way JJK does.
@neerGdyahS naruto has been doing it for a long time tho
@Cristiano_Messimar Arguable. I'm pretty firmly of the opinion that JJK did it better.
@neerGdyahS that's your opinion nothing else
Even 1 tailed naruto vs curse mark sasuke had insane amount of choreography bruh
Jjk overrated as hell and that's just my opinion btw
@Cristiano_Messimar Correct, it is my opinion. My opinion is that Naruto has moments of high quality choreography and animation, but most of the more impactful and realistic choreography is more recent stuff.
I think JJKs is more grounded and detailed, which makes it feel "punchier" and less cartoony.
(PS, "amount" of choreography?)
Mahoraga wasn't an enemy to beat, he was a puzzle to solve
Damn bro is speaking fax with this saying 🙌
With an unfair time limit
Shakespeare is that you?
Is Shakespeare really dead?
SHAKESPEARE COME BACK AND MAKE MORE PEAKK
The thing is that JJK fights are so dense with everything that they just kind of set the standard for anything with a power system.
Choreography? Top-notch stuff, Gege is a massive fan of actual fighting and implements real aspects of it.
Power system? Amazing stuff, there's always another layer to consider, even something like the limitless can have its weaknesses, as few as they are.
Tension? Along with the fact that Gege wasn't hugged as a child, so you never know who is safe, tension is used borderline masterfully.
Emotional stakes? While not always there, they're never completely absent, and just when you think the story's been a little too free of them for too long, Gege sucker punches you.
The best word I can use is density, because even many underrated to average fights in JJK have more going on in them than most excellent fights in other shows. It really is a new standard because so many shows I've revisited or watched after JJK, I just am mildly amused by fights I would've been seriously impressed with 5 years ago. JJK has its flaws that hold it back, but in terms of fights? JJK is what it looks like to stand on the shoulders of giants.
goated comment
What? Wouldn't not knowing who is safe actually even better for the tension? GRRM used the same trick in GoT
Good response but too much glaze
@kingmistgun7319 I meant on top of not knowing who's safe. I probably could've phrased it better.
Jjk fights aside from the choreography, is no different than Hxhs. It's not new.
"strategy" oh you're gonna LOOOOVE jojos bro
Exactly
He already talk about jojo before
Animation in jjk is significantly better, choreography is present and strategy is way more logical than constant asspulls in jojo
@sydorovich2532 no shit because jojo have more weird power compared to other animes, of course the solution would also be on the same level of weirdness
@sydorovich2532 tell me at least one asspull in jojo, i dare you
I JUST WATCHED SHIBUYA ARC LIKE MINS AGO AFTER almost 3 years and WTF TOJI VS. THE CUTTLEFISH CURSE, TOJI VS. MEGUMI, SUKUNA VS. MAHORAGA?! WTFFFF IT'S FUCKING PEAK! PEAK PEAK
the cuttlefish curse's name is dagon
"cuttlefish" lmfaooo
bro just wait for gojo and sukuna fight you will be shocked no spoils tho
@MaxWIN2YOU😮😮😮😮😮😮
🖐ABSOLUTE CINEMA🤚
15:56 "most anime just ick one thing at a time" and the screen shows Frireren and DanDaDan, that were actually using both...
Along with AOT the anime with some of the most biggest plot twist 💀
@antafire3792, what plot twists have to do with it? he was talking about fight scenes...
@Circle9ru majority of AOT fans dont have media literacy
I feel like when it comes to fights, the moment you know that the overpowered character is gonna win, it feels pretty repetitive and boring. On the other hand, there are fights that give you chills from the immense and intimidating aura they give off ngl
"Only kids make choices, adults pick them all". I think this quote perfectly encapsulates JJK as a whole. Most anime usually pick a blend they like and then ended up overusing it. JJK as a story makes you feel what is like to be an adult. You can choose to enjoy the emotional storytelling or the fight scenes or the character development or the powerscaling and etc. Most series stick to one thing and grow stagnant as it refuses to leave the comfort zone or kept getting milked way past its expiration. JJK on the other hand moves multiple plot points to different direction yet still follows the general trajectory, granted with a few plot holes and unresoled storylines here and there, but overall it did great, generational even
JJK is already a certified shonen classic. You've brought up some excellent points. It's a series that gives you damn near everything as a fan of anime. Excellent worldbuilding, unforgettable villains, hype/aura moments, strategy, complex power systems, emotional stakes, and a great MC that breaks from the traditional battle shonen norm.
I think the media literacy problem with JJK fans is twofold. There's the rules/techniques within the universe, which I do feel like Gege can be guilty of overexplaining or overcomplicating, but you don't NEED to understand all of it to enjoy the series anyway.
The other issue is the very surface level analyzing of it's themes and characters, which is bound to happen when your series does battles and hype moments so damn well. Gege can be subtle with things, and he doesn't give his characters and the audience the emotional comfort that many shonen just freely give away. The universe is cruel and unforgiving, and the pace and tone of the series reflects this. That fact that MAPPA chose the art direction they chose for season 3 is further evidence of this. It's like an arthouse indie film that doesn't hold your hand.
@Pooloozahalways blaming the fans as if the fans decided gege write a fight with two characters and have other characters come to take one of them and teach her something about her powers then she comes back and defeat the other. Or maybe fans actually said that gege should abandon everything he established after shibuya like the primary antagonists of the series, two of the main cast, worldbuilding with the clans, jujutsu high, the philosophical depth and many others. Or maybe they told him to use a whole chapter to explain simple domain that everyone already knows its mechanics, or maybe they told him to overcomplicate the power system explanations, he simple stopped building the story and focuses on the fight, it went from simple to complex to complicated, or the fans asked gege to do three consecutive battle arcs with breaks knowing that affects a battle story, or maybe they told him to waste kenjaku and yuki. Worldbuilding and storytelling aren't subtle, details are, deatisl only contribute, they aren't a whole story elements, they don't replace stories and worldbuilding. When someone says jjk lacks substance and you mention subtlety, you show what you know about storytelling. Hidden inventory story wasn't subtle, the symbolism are, subtlety don't replace story, the second half simply lacks in that aspect and it's not the fans fault, it's gege's decision. The only thing the fans did are external, people analyse jjk and no one says it has "invisible subtle stories", jjk also screams its themes like perfect death, being a monster and loneliness so the subtlety is exaggerated. Anyways, it's still good and it's my favourite manga and anime ever, but I don't go around acting like I know better than every other millions of fans and pretend the story is flawless so blame any flaw on the fans.
@PooloozahExcellent world building? You’re pushing it
Pick them all, now its a fucking mess, thanks adult!
Is kind of a terrible and backwards quote though.
I never noticed these details in Sukuna vs Mahoraga before
Yes and you wouldn’t have even if you watched it 7 times.
JJK doesn’t exactly do a good job telling you what’s going on. Which I consider a flaw. Other people consider this one of the reasons why it’s great.
@soulwarrior you're not wrong. But I hardly think it's the worst in that regard, and I've certainly complained about other series being overly explanatory.
@AidenHartley-xw9hw I would never say it's the worst, I just think it's overhyped.
@soulwarriorwym
In short, JJK knows how to think on the fly, characters understanding their abilities, learning and adapting on the fly.
The thing that a lot people dont understand is that fighting itself can be a story.
That has been the bread and butter of sport shonen and martial arts manga for decades.
Arcs, characterization, conflict, all expressed not only through a physical clash, but by the nuances that in itself entails
Gege is clearly a fan of Pro-wrestling and MMA, and they know how rich of a narrative experience two dudes on a ring can be.
And they have translated that understanding to their manga.
11:15 there's more strategy to this. his domain expansion consists of his 2 base slashing techniques which is dismantle and cleave that rain down during it. mahoraga had already adapted to both of them, sukuna used his domain to proper expand his range of his flames
Exactly. Because Sukuna understood that the slashing techniques might not be enough to overpower Mahoraga anymore, he threw in fuga for good measure ftw.
Yeah, he used the dust in the air to fuel fuga flames
I haven't watched the video yet but I always knew that JJK fights are and always will be peak🔥
Boy will u be surprised when you see the fights in Fate and To Be Hero X
@farhanboi303sure I'll try them
@LokpalliThe Super Cube donghua also has insane fights
@farhanboi303 lord of mysteries fights in the future will be crazy
@leslieloud17 super cube isn't as good as u think. It really fell off
To be fair, Maki learned Naoya's technique, her father used a tactical weakness of Maki to beat her in the first round, and also those kills by Maki despite being hype also have some of the most pinpoint accurate and chaotic kills of all time which are not even verbal tactics but still surgical dismantlings of her clan. And her sister Mai dying and giving her a reed is a Japanese adage about how you can tell how many ducks didn't make it during migration because of the amount of reeds left. And they are twins which are considered a curse but could actually be great if given the chance even without the nerf of the split souls. And it's a parallel of Toji who took a more depressive approach to his rejection while Maki took a more Proactive one. So it's a whole bunch of shiz. Mai also lives on as the Soul Split Katana.
World Trigger pushed this to the extreme. You have to observe everything to predict what will happen. The fights are almost pure strategy and I think it is even more interesting than in JJK because the MC is underpowered and is surrounded with overpowered partners that he has to manage.
There is going to be reboot of first season. With normal pacing and good animation (on the level of seasons 2 and 3) I hope more people would appreciate WT.
@18bobrovhi I want to start the anime should I watch first season or wait for remake
What i like about World Trigger is Guns, melee and mixed with power or abilities combo
idk, I only watched WT because a girl I met in Kumamoto while visiting the Strawhat statues recommended it to me as one of her favorites, but I couldn't get into. I pretty much had to force myself to keep watching. It did get better as it went on, but for me, it doesn't hold a candle to how much I enjoy JJK, which I'll happily watch multiple times.
Reminds me of jjba fights. They go pretty heavy on the strategy aspect of a fight
1:17 not even dawg 🥀
He meant as a hashira bro chill out
No he didn’t. He meant Akaza and Rengoku are close in power.
They are not
@ghostslayer4134exactly
@s@sin_zero7889 they actually are. The data book even states this and akaza on 3 different occasions admits he is trying to kill him. Akaza also saw him as a worthy rival…rengoku was also able to physically overpower a serious akaza at the end…on top of this akaza states rengoku is near the domain of supremacy which is what akaza considers the ultimate strength and is also the strength akaza himself is searching for. More canonically suggests they are than aren’t
@SPACECOVIDit was a weaker version of Akaza anyway and that mf was clearly not trying to kill him
I always like to point out how big Maho literally uses his sliced off limbs as projectiles
Instead of impact frames spam, jjk uses realistically paced fights, not the camera switching every 2 seconds, rather zooming in or out and rotating, it feels like 3d while knowing it's 2d, from my perspective.
Yup i hate one piece because of that Impact frames full of effects i used to love one piece fights before timeskip, simple stuff like second form was much better then now
JJK as always been the manga for having so many fights and action, but also it's moments were it's just pure information and details that actually help later on some other fight or issue. It's like JJK wants you to think like your in the fight if you really want to understand how tactical it can get, doesn't matter who's fighting.
too bad most of its fans cant read
This bro has a big point, I actually love how he pointed all this out, I'm definitely looking out for this in the future next time I'm watching anime
correction, against sukuna, when he uses his main ability so slash, mahoraga do not punch it coz its a cursed technique and u cant hit it with physical attacks, mahoraga throws punches not to hit the slashes, but he throws punches because in case sukuna slashes him, that hand will go flying towards sukuna and hit him, so sukuna uses faints
*feints
u can hit it with physical attacks mate, what are u saying, if you couldnt hit dismantle with physical things, dismantle couldnt hit anything physical
@bigmsxyeah this is chopped
@bigmsx yes it can bro, how do you expect to hit a slash
@Monday12thAGAIN read my comment again, I'm pretty sure you misread
10:43 this one moment... the real fraudkuna has appeared.
THUKUNA
seeing him have full set of teeth feels wrong
The fact there is a binding vow called "revealing the right hand" which reveals one's own curse technique and how it works to gain a 120% buff just explains that someone needs to understand his opponent
i think it depends on the complexity of the ct, if you have an easy to figure ct, you don't get that much
4:04 Did Luffy just... land a Black Flash?
Nah just haki
No its conquerer haki implemented in punches
Nah just you and conquers haki
What you should be saying is, did yuji just use conquerors haki
@Frttiposwhoosh
5:06 Can't blame them, calling SL bad is insane glaze. It's an unfortunate tragedy that it got an anime adaptation, especially one this good. Despite the massive difference in animation quality, I'd watch BL S2 all over again than ever watch a single SL fight, cuz at least I won't be bored to death.
Jesus loves you, repent please. Romans 10:9
@Savedsmile … it isn’t a sin to say that you don’t think an anime is good.
@harbingerofpapercuts yes it is , read the bible , ask for forgiveness, Amen.
@sylect My harmless opinion is a sin?
@SuPeRtOaSt-x6m Yes , Amen
9:08, A more controversial distinction this series has from other battle shonen is its main protagonist not being destined to be most powerful protagonist.
He realizes throughout these events that he's not going to be a savior, just an expendable soldier there to do his part for as long as he can.
It's a massive blow to his ego and fills him with shame and despair just as much as it humbles him, but it also hardens his resolve, for better and for worse.
THIS! It's one of my favorite parts of the show, it kinda takes the genre and a flips it without sacrificing the good shit.
I mean Yuji consistently is reminded that he isn't the GOAT, he isn't a prodigy, and when he finds out the reason he is different it doesn't make him feel better, it reinforces the idea that he is a cog in someone else's plans always. but his sense of duty and unflinching compassion and empathy while still being able to throw hands is (in my opinion) the thing that truly sets him apart from his peers.
What truly makes Jujutsu Kaisen’s fights stand out and surpass most other shonen anime is the creativity of its techniques and the depth of its strategies. The author has masterfully crafted every battle, ensuring that each one is, in one way or another, distinct from the others. Personally, I consider Jujutsu Kaisen the second greatest anime in terms of fights after Kengan Ashura
not a fair comparison, considering kengan ashura goes in ALOT more detail, specifically MMA wise, and does not have magic. both are masterclasses, different genre of fighting.
I'm not caught up on Kengan Ashura but I definitely agree about the part in your comment where you say that each fight has a distinct identity. That really makes the series unique!
Y'all really be doing too much in these comments, lol. The techniques are the least interesting part of Jujutsu Kaisen. I've seen weird ass moves in other anime before that give me a headache, lol. Demon Slayer is the better series because it doesn't need to do all that, but I love both. It's okay to love more than one thing without trying to make others seem less than. Like, stop it.🥴
@tkm1875 true, jjk hits different
@tkm1875 "Personally" the person gave an opinion, said to him is better than most animes without saying the animes or putting all others aside.
And then YOU say he is putting others aside then saying how uniteresting things are from the one of the MAIN parts of the fights, the techniques. Talking others think too high of the anime and are doing too much and immediatly talks high of an anime you like.
This is arrogance and hypocrisy, blaming others of something they didn't do and you do it as soon you stop blaming others.
One small thing that I like about JJK fights is that the pauses for explanation are really short, and there's not so much conversation between the adversaries
I ADORE how when even just side characters are fighting they put just as much effort
Jujutsu kaisen is peak shonen 🔥
Can we just talk about the crazy art in the thumbnail
'What JJK understands about fights (That anime doesn't)' my guy JJK is an anime
It meant solo midling
@SonGokuEarthshero oh my bad
@SonGokuEarthshero you acting like jjk story ain’t mid either😂😂😂
@eliteranksclipss theres actual story in JJK that could be read if it weren't for illiterate fans who are in it just for the action which, cough cough, Solo Levelling?
@eliteranksclipssyou lack reading comprehension skills or your rage baiting. Either way your statement is inaccurate
Todo's fake swap to a Black Flash is my favorite fight moment in the entire series. That shit was legendary
If one wants to see strategy in fight then they have to go watch World Trigger and get ranking matches arcs.
Not only does World Trigger does strategy amazing. It's the only anime that really understands Team Fight strategy. Team fights are not isolated 1v1s nor is it a turn based affair where a bunch of guys stand back while one person attacks. World Trigger uses terrain, positioning, objective focus and target priority in mind for each team in the fight in order to make a winning strategy.
Thank you for reminding me of World Trigger 😭, there's no other anime that gets me so intrigued in fights like this one.
this is such a good evaluation of fights in anime. The first time you see the fight is always hype but the strategy makes rewatching once twice or even more retain intrigue and hype longer than most other fights.
5:36 read lookism
Holy niche elite ball knowledge
Peakism/Goatism MENTIONED 🗣️
I think the thing that makes the battles of jujutsu kaisen So good is that the character actually dies when you don't expect it
Gege unfortunately maxed out every stat for JJK but writing ;[
Wdym ? Have you even read manga ?, writing is peak
Megumi’s potential was used as a plot device for sukuna. all of that glazing from the start of the series just for his ten shadows technique to reach full potential when sukuna used it instead. Got removed from the final arc just for his contribution to be “holding sukuna back”. Great character setup, absolutely disappointing conclusion.
@RipCanWinkle true it was rushed
@RipCanWinkle Stupidest shit I've read.
Something that was built up from the start was just a plot device? Sukuna asking Megumi why he ran, reviving Yuji specifically because he was interested in Megumi + making a binding vow to take over for one minute, was happy when Megumi exorcised a finger bearer all on his own, told Megumi that he needs him alive for a plan he has, and was super happy when fighting Mahoraga all was just a plot device? Anyone with a brain would've known that Sukuna's goal was to take over Megumi.
*cough*Nobara coming back*cough*
OH MY GOD I DIDN’T KNOW THIS ABOUT THE FIGHT BETWEEN SUKUNA AND MAHORAGA IT MAKES SENSE NOW
Actually Naruto versus pain is also an exception wherein Naruto uses his utmost strategy with emotions that pain has recently annihilated Konoha
Plenty of Naruto fights use excellent strategy as good if not better than JJK Temari vs Shikamaru, Neji vs kiddimaro, Gaara vs Deidara, Chiyo and Sakura vs Sasori, Jiraiya vs Pain, Sasuke vs Deidara, Sasuke vs Itachi, Danzo vs Sasuke, Naruto vs 3rd Raikage, Itachi and Sasuke vs Kabuto, Kakashi vs Obito, Naruto and Sasuke vs Madara, Naruto and Sasuke Vs Kaguya and Naruto vs Sasuke final fight.
The title alone should get you arrested
"That most anime dont" would be a better title and less stupid
@Majestic_platipusdid u answer to a wrong comment?
@ismailbrkic3640 fuc- mb 😭 I'll go reply in the actual one
What are you yapping abt
@gpavitra85reading comprehension ❤️
@ismailbrkic3640 okay genius with "reading comprehension" enlighten my illiterate mind
also maki vs nayoa was a good amount of strategy as she had to figure out exactly the way his technique worked
Fax
SUBBED! This video is incredible astute, it manages to _really_ compare and contrast two things that cna often be difficult to really nail down. People know _that_ they prefer certain anime buy often they aren't exactly sure _why_ they have those preferences because at just a glance they're all just "fights" right?
In regards to some of the most incredible visual art, you have managed to create your _own_ beautiful analytical art.
The thumbnails are soo good
Uhmm I think there are so many Anime fight scenes that already use this formula (Tactics + Emotional) which depends on execution to make it memorable
Do you know of any?? Would love to see them

I haven't watched Hunter x hunter but I bet the shows got many
What can I conclude Abt this video that JJK fights fleshed out the details of the fight more since most of the fight got narrator
@shawncherry1475 JoJo is the most noticeable, they make use of their seemingly underwhelming ability to it's fullest potential
@Zackaweyyou named 4 or 5 anime that is not a lot
Thank you for making this!
So JJK took what JoJos did over 40 years prior and put more hype moments into it?
No Jjk took what jojos did 40 years prior and did it better in every way
@Number-1-ball-blast-playerglaze
“Exploiting the rules of the power system” is such a good way to put it. Every fight they’re unlocking hidden mechanics of their cursed techniques and it’s so cool
1:06 Hunter x Hunter is a suitable answer
Rengoku became a donut
Other anime that utilizes incredible strategies in their fights also include hunterxhunter and naruto (except the otsutsuki and bijuu stuff)
I know bro felt so tuff syncing up the last line to the sealing of gojo
1:51 if akaza couldn't generate then rengoku is the clear winer of that fight
if demons didn’t have demon powers then yeah the demon slayers would win
lol
No way akaza wasn't even trying.
@SAG3__ do you now know what happens to someone who cant heal and lost an arm at the start if the fight
@bruhnuhuh1not all the time. This is mainly for the hashiras and even then, some hashiras are not that good.
“The act of applause comes from the soul!”
5:11 Hell yeah it is sir !!
No one should switch up when megumi vs reggie gets animated
This is what I have already been seeing since Kirara.
And since the anime keeps throwing in more Tsumiki stuff, everyone is going to switch up
Basically most and all anime fights have problem slving to some extent
I dont know why you're glazing jjk so much
According to you, "omg they're thinking while fighting, this has to be the best fight in shounen "
Goku's hair looks like Simba's hair if there's a wind on 3:33
Ima be real with u it’s mostly because of the fighting choreography
Sorry for the wall of text, I'm locked in rn because I'm on my meds on a day where I don't need them and I ain't used to the sensation and this is one of the first time where I'm versed in a topic I care enough about to info dump. The summary shall be in another reply but I do hope you read this because it won't be the same if you only read the summary.
Except strategy is part of the choreography. Mahoraga would look fucking stupid just punching air if there wasn't a reason to it. Like, why is Yuji constantly throwing punches that ain't doing anything when he could just punch hard and follow it up. It's the fact that the choreography is planned out that makes it so good. Take JJBA (If you respond or anyone else, preferably don't put spoilers as I'm not done with Part 3 yet [I took a break after the Dan of Steel fight started to watch this video]) for example, in the fight against Centerfold the choreography wasn't the best but I still loved it. Its because every action has a thought and reason behind it. Granted, many things do kinda feel like asspulls (I'm looking at you Joseph) but they still have strategy. Another reason is that neither have city-busting abilities (For the most part). I'm currently reading MHA and I enjoy the fights but sometimes it does get a little power based. But thats one reason why the fight with Stain is so well received. Its mostly strategy as opposed to throwing out big strong attacks. Now compare that to Black Clover (Don't execute me please) where A LOT of the time its just a battle of willpower and firepower. Don't get me wrong, it has cool choreography but the fights are very much lacking in the strategy aspect. Hell, even with city busting powers, you can have interesting fights (Gojo vs Sukuna). If you take the choreography away and not the strategy you get a JJBA fight. If you take the the strategy away but not the choreography, you get a Solo Leveling fight. Most anime and manga are different so I'm not saying one is better than another or anything like that, just that strategy is a HUGE reason why JJK fights are popular, not just the choreography. Okay, I've been ranting but I have one more thing to say, look at my all time favorite anime Mob Psycho 100. In the fight against the teleporter, it may look like a bunch of power spam but eventually, they start getting tactical and then they start winning. That is of course, until he gets a big villain power up... AND REGEIN COMES IN WITH THE SELF DEFENSE RUSH. Even with the second most OP powerset in MP100, the guy loses because a weakness was exploited, and this is also one of the most popular fights in anime
Summary of my rant: People love strategic fights even without strategy. Part of JJK's best choreography IS strategy. Examples:
Choso vs Yuji for the strategy and choreography
Solo Leveling fights for their beautiful choreography but BS power system (It's still cool even though I'm not a fan)
JJBA fights such as Polnareff and Kakyoin vs Centerfold for the strategy but lacking choreography
Teleport dude's jumping for the power and strategy but ok choreography
Stain's jumping for its strategy and choreography along with it being creative with the powers
Fights are honestly the reason I love Shonen along with the writing. Although I kinda dissed Black Clover because I dropped it, but I did really enjoy the fights before they became repetitive. So, strategy is the key to making a masterclass FIGHT scene. Granted, fights aren't the full picture when it comes to writing.
@Armadillo-bg2qi I love how you know what you’re talking and your explanation is perfect!
@NOTSaiketsu Thank you
Holy shit, you just summarized the video 🙄
14:52 Naruto vs Pain or Sasuke vs Itachi did both strategy and determination to be the peak fights of the series
Danzo vs Sasuke as well.
Amazing video!
11:55, i just wanted to point out, mahitos technique isnt, "i touch you--> you die". It's, "I touch you-->I release my ct--> THEN you die". It's not one action, but actually 2.
This is actually very cool, I didn't think about all the things behind the fights
I think one of the reasons Maki won was because Naoya wasn't using cursed energy reinforcement on his face, if he did he'd not have enough for his toes. He was wearing sandals so if he ran too fast without cursed energy reinforcement there he'd be done.
Well your right in a way, it's more like he didn't focus more energy to face to tank the blow cuz he didn't think he could be hit there in the fight.
All the sorcerers in JJK use CE reinforcement but is limited to how much energy they have, maki was just much stronger.
@Nabbling I feel like Maki held back for some reason, Naoya was bursting through mountains and I can't tell if this is due to his cursed energy exploding outwards but Makis punch entirely destroyed his face, even though she probably could've went all of the way.
@TechnoAchneNaoya was indeed a serious threat but Maki definitely wasn't going all out.
Naoya was tearing apart the landscape easily but Maki just happened to be one of the strongest characters in the verse so he just picked a fight with the wrong person lol.
one of my favorite examples of the strategy and planning aspect of jjk is megumi vs toji, a super burnt out megumi vs a fully realized heavinly restriction user, and because of planning megumi comes this 🤌close to winning, shows you how far up you can punch up with a good head on your shoulders
The best fights have both strategy and emotion that’s why I love Naruto fights
I like Naruto, not shippuden.
@FlintMurray-01 no one cares
@MrBrown-q7p I care.
Until random filler Eps coming😂
Been awhile since I’ve seen one of your videos in my feed. Another banger!
The JJK glaze is crazy🥀
(Dw i glaze them too)
This man just understands everything, he should make his own manga
I personally disagree that that makes JJK fights special cuz you could say the same about many anime. Demon Slayer for example. It sets up the tension that the Demons are immortal and cant be harmed conventionally. The demon slayers while super human are still human. There's a clear status quo on how to defeat a demon and thats chopping off its head or waiting for sunrise. In one example, SPOILER FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T SEEN THE INFINITY CASTLE MOVIE‼️‼️. The fight between Tajiro and Giyu against Akaza is a fight between 3 martial artists of 3 different styles with one clearly holding the speed, Power, Skill and Experience advantage with a power that gives him clairvoyant adjacent attributes. Our heroes dont knw this and fight him without that knowledge trying to cut off his head by trying to overwhelm him, sneak him, out maneuver etc but he keeps adapting while our heroes stamina is getting taxed but Tanjiro uses information, scant though it may be, from every encounter and verbal back n forth he's witnessed that included Akaza to deduce the peculiar way Akaza fights and how he's able to fight like he does, comes up with a hypothesis, gets an answer, tests it and then uses it to defeat Akaza. There's emotional weight to this fight because of things we knw and then find out, theres hype as well but there's also on the fly strategy along with our heroes getting pushed to their limit. Fights like this are littered throughout demon slayer, some of which are The fight against Upper 6 Gyutaro and Daki as well as Against Upper 4 Hantengu. This is also true for My Hero Academia as much as they yell PLUS ULTRA✨️ there is strategy in many battles! Or Hunter X Hunter Especially
In terms of the actual fights in JJK it reminds me a lot of how in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure fights come down to solving a problem that is being presented by an opponent's stand. It makes you think and question how your supose to win and that cool
Can we stop acting like Hxh and Jjk are the only anime that has "tactics and strategy" in a fight? It's the same song and dance. Guys, strategies can only do so much until a gap is too wide for it to matter. From Dragonball, to Yyh, to Naruto , To Full Metal all the way to Jjk and most recently Kagurabachi.
If fighters are relative, then strategy comes to question,but even then "strategy" in the eyes of anime/manga fans is a narrative text dump describing actions we see, with a scene slowed down explaining what happened.
No matter what, Megumi for instance, was never ever ever going to beat Mahoraga with any strategy at his skill and physical level. None. Mahoraga is just a suicide nuke that MAY have taken Sukuna out.
Maki before Mais death? Was never going to be Naoya.
another reason jjk fights are so interesting is as long as you haven't read the manga you dont know who will die because we see important characters die so we dont know who lives in each fight when in other shows not many important characters die leading to the viewer not knowing how the fight will end
One of my favorite and (in my opinion) best ways to write fights is to have their way of fighting reflect the characters. This is one of the reasons why death battle is so famous and beloved, as many of their matchups use this approach.
Omni man vs Homelander: Homelander is someone that is already born and made to be the most powerful being in his universe, which is why he sucks so much in this fight, cause he never needed to actually fight before. Omni man meanwhile is a experienced warrior who gives homelander no time to breathe and spends most of the fight just making homelander‘s last few minutes alive into the worst few minutes of his entire life.
Rick vs dr.who: Rick is cynical man who likes to make meta commentaries/ references and violence to get things done, meanwhile the doctor is a adventurer who loves to find fun in each of the new places he visits, while still possesing a pacifist nature, as he would rather talk things through then fight.
And it‘s perfectly represented in their fight, with Rick using More dangerous looking weapons to quickly end this fight, meanwhile the doctor never physically attacks Rick and uses harmless looking but effective weapons to block all of Rick’s attacks, while still having a lotta fun out of this fight.
The ending of this fight even fitted their characters: True to his character, the doctor didn’t kill Rick directly but rather let Rick do the deed himself, dying by his own arrogance.
Bowser vs Eggman: Bowser was a true leader, who was fighting alongside his troop, while Eggman never directly showed up until it looked like bowser was weakened and even then, he only showed up in a giant robot to protect himself in it. Then when it looked like Eggman was losing, he was ready to blow the entire battlefield, even willing to sacrifice his own men, just to beat bowser. And despite the danger, bowser was still willing to take the blast to defend his people. And when the dust is cleared and it looked like the battle was over, bowser and his army was still standing and gave the now alone doctor a defeat he will never forget. This entire fight showed how much of a good and caring leader bowser is, while Eggman is a terrible one.
I'd add Tetsuo vs Magneto into this, as it is the first episode where the "respectful death" truly started for me, and that the combatants feel more in character to their canon selves. Cuz a lot of Death Battle's episodes onward from that has been a lot of highs and little lows.
It paved the way where gory deaths are mostly reserved to the characters that fits it, but even then, they're few and far between compared to earlier seasons.
Safe to say, Tetsuo vs Magneto built a path for us to have stuff like Omniman vs Homelander, Goku vs Superman 3, Bowser vs Eggman, Kyle Reyner vs Simon the Digger, and many more to come.
>"Bowser was a true leader, who was fighting alongside his troop"
You mean the same Bowser who has his minions act as his fakes so that he doesn't have to confront Mario directly? The same Bowser who hides behind his minions and putting 7 castles in the way of Mario?
Versus Eggman? The guy who always comes out to personally fight Sonic? In every zone?
This was a really good analysis on Jjk fights you got yourself another sub
10:17 wait till bro see Dabura (JJKM) learning RCT mid fight with Mahoraga and do it perfectly, Gege is onto smth with these typa strategic 🙏
Good vid broski
we can see you love to glaze jjk, but literally everything you just mentioned is typical shonen
THANKS
JJK haters really are dumb. This comment makes no sense. Did you even watch the video?
@verdurite JJK dick-riders are really brain-dead. did you even read my comment?
I’m so glad I found this channel, some of the best and varied anime content. Hats off to you my friend I really enjoy how you you structure your videos more likes and comments to come from me for sure
>implying that JJK isn’t carried solely by hype moments and flashy animation the same way Demon Slayer is
Because it isn't.
Because it literally isn't, use your brain for once
Strategy fight aspect i think Naruto and jjba also have that
In early episodes yes. With each episodes progress, that feeling gradually vanish as most of the fight become who has the stronger ability.
Bro, have you read "Lord of the Mysteries"?
If not, trust me - it has one of the most unique power systems you’ll ever see.
His talking about strategy in a jjk fights not the power system
@EvanSeptoeI know he’s talking about strategy, but he always makes power system analysis videos. I just commented because it’s a new video, hopping he reads the comment section.
@aon.396 "The Law Of Ueki" better!
The fans aren't ready for the Sukuna Raid
10:37 that actually wasnt empty air those slashes were just invisible to us but mahoraga seen them
It's actually invisible? I thought it was just because the slashes were so fast that they were practically invisible
I've heard another take on this where the reason Mahoraga is "punching the air" is to anticipate the slashes and time it so that he can fling his body parts towards him, we've seen him do this when he was cut in chunks as his flings his body parts towards Sukuna. He wasn't even sending out slashes at all, just messing with Mahoraga and throwing out feints.
Yes this was confirmed to be true@Derpmationss
There’s no slashes, the punches are to lineup its body parts to launch at sukuna when severed. Its swinging repeatedly since the slashes are never coming and it keeps trying to predict where to be
@dr.consumerock6798all of sukunas slashes are invisible and no he didnt actually throw a slash he was feinting
This was an excellent video essay
Can't explain it, but when someone is about to attack and the narrator explains their technique right before they release their attack, it turns everything up a notch.
I wanna create a fight animation so thank you for this. Now i know what to do i think.
0:30 thought you were gonna say black clover
Did you even look at the title and the clips that were played in the background
@Average-Elden-Ring-Fanhis brain is in his ass
JJBA was the blue print for these types of shonen.
Not even
Yes, I agree JJK is like the pinnacle of fighting animation. But I HAVE to say, Fate has WAYYY better fights than JJK (creativity and visual flair wise). Especially Fate/strange Fake and Fate/Apocrypha
Nah, it's great but can't top jjk
his not just talking about how pinnacle fights are, its all about how the character going to win, not how the character will get the power to win .
visual flair fate is probably better but absolutely not in creativity. Fate fights doesn't have tactics, scenarios, and unique problem solving in its fights like JJK does. I haven't seen a fight in fate like Megumi vs Reggie, or the Kirara fight, or Gojo vs Sukuna.
@PrimeXPF True. The OP comment is delusional.
@PrimeXPFI'm not talking about creativity of the fights from a narrative standpoint. I'm talking about the animation and direction standpoint. While it's true that overall direction wise, JJK S3 might be better than F/sF, but when it comes to the actual animation, F/sF takes the cake
