Hey, all! Thanks so much for checking out our video. Do us a huge favor and share this every time you get the chance. We'd love to introduce the world to Jellyfish and all of their incredible music!
Best cover of this song I’ve ever heard. And I’ve performed a cover of this song. As much as I love myself I’m humble enough to know what’s better. This is better.
Yet again, this proves my thesis that loving Jellyfish is the "secret handshake" among top-level musicians. You also brought up Kings X. When I meet other musicians, I will eventually bring up Jellyfish. If they haven't heard them or don't know them, I am not gonna vibe with them. I feel seen, having been one of the only people I knew who even remembered them. Impeccable vocals on this. To me, vocals are the litmus test for how much a musician cares about details. If you cover Jellyfish or Def Leppard, and you don't go all out on the vocals, I know the quality isn't there. In this, the quality is DEFINITELY there.
WOW. Like, uh, 'WOW!"!! I've written many words about Jellyfish over the years, interviewed, gotten to know and hung with members of the band, published a book on this history of the band("Fan Club" by Craig Dorfman, find it), spent almost 3 years putting together the Jellyfish "Fan Club" box set 20 years ago on my old label(Not Lame Recordings) - and it still moves my soul deeply to see so many incredibly talented musicians inspired the original band years on down the road. The best, most inspired tribute to the band I've encountered. Pretty much perfect and magnificently inspired. A quick sidebar but related and true footnote story to the band: THE most surprising, humbling and awesome experience of releasing the "Fan Club" box back in 2002 was this...hearing from hundreds of musicians(not just fans) who reached out to say how the band inspired them to become better musicians, to reach to higher levels of their own personal creative accomplishment - and, for many, how seeing the band perform live, four guys singing pitch perfect, transformed, inspired and motivated them to go for whatever their dream in the art was going to be. THIS is huge part of the bands' legacy decades on, I believe it should be better known. Of course, the songs themselves, the recordings are amazing...but their inspiration to musicians over those decades is part of the more hidden, somewhat unknown legacy of the band.
That's so very kind. We appreciate it. I've spoken to so many musicians who light up whenever you mention Jellyfish. It becomes an A-ha moment that you bond over for the next 20 minutes. Happens every time. : ) Such a legacy.
@@DonnieWayneSmith Indeed, it very much is a somewhat obscured and overlooked part of their legacy: the reaction, the influence and inspiration the band has had - and continues to have - on musicians to...well, just reach higher and find their own excellence.
Bruce:> "RIGHT ON" brother. You have done so much for the Power Pop genre over the years with NOT LAME and Power "Pop Geek Heaven". This is one mucician who's privilege it is to say "THANK YOU" Warmest Rrgards, Billy Csernits
I just had to listen to the rest of Spilt Milk. After watching this I kept hearing "far behind the forest of flying paper airplanes grazing on the grounds of pony tails..." Over and over in my head. Awesome job guys. I want to see New Mistake next.
I started listening to the Beatles because Jeffyfish broke up. Fantastic cover! I’ve only ever met a jeffyfish fan online. Greatest band 99% haven’t ever heard of.
There's something magical about JELLYFISH. I heard some studios still use Spilt Milk to tune everything? And then years after their break up, a box set was released with 4 CDs of live, and unreleased tracks? I have it, it's amazing. I still can't understand why it was released? Then years after that a tribute CD was made with all sorts of bands covering their songs? And now this amazing creation from "Separate Studios Together?" When are the guys in Jellyfish going to realize we need them to get back together. Last I heard Andy Sturmer's voice was the Transformers song, one of the Transformers series'es'es has Andy singing it. Looking now. Look up Transformers Animated. That's the one and only Andy Sturmer. He's also involved with a past Sponge Bob song.
Jellyfish has to be the most widely underrated band ever. The good news is, almost all of my musician friends know who they are and appreciate them with all the enthusiasm they deserve.
Great job, fellas! You can tell you have a real revelry for Jellyfish. Your rendition hit all the notes but also those little details only true lovers of the band notice. I’ve found Jellyfish is one of those band’s bands. Musicians know greatness when they hear it and it was a genius level musician back at the University of Oklahoma that gave me a tape of both albums. I’m no musical genius…but I know genius music when I hear it. Jellyfish.
I didn’t think I could love this song any more than I already did. But seeing my fellow Gen Xer’s enthusiasm for this under-appreciated band almost brought me to tears! You guys SMASHED it. 🏆
While recording a Demo in 1991 the sound engineer told me to come give this new band a listen. The band, Jellyfish. The song was "The man i used to be" My 1st Jelly exp was in front of studio monitors. Needless to say i was BLOWN away with the sound of that album in its 'native habitat'. Bought that album the next day and it owned me for at least a year. Its ALL i listened to. From that moment on i became a gigantic Jelly fan but also a Jelly evangelist converting everyone i could. In 2020 they are still a huge part of my musical diet! Viva La Jellyfish!
That’s an immaculate cover. What a truly great band they were, it’s criminal that they never made it. The writing and production on both albums is peerless. As a musician myself, I’ve only ever met other musicians that know them - they’re like a trade secret.
Annnnd KABOOM!! Mind blown! Super fun to make a lil surprise appearance in this with some of my long time musical heros and with the OG 'Chris Stokes No.5' no less. SURPRISE CHRIS!! This looks and sounds killer ya'll. Oh and what Donnie says in the video about that Rufus T Firefly album? Same here!

Massive fan of Jellyfish and always interested to see how other musicians cover their music! This is outstanding, what an amazing version from my personal all time favourite album. Love this so much.
Absolutely phenomenal harmonies - fantastic effort by all. I saw Jellyfish supporting INXS at Wembley Stadium, UK when they just started out and I was like WOAH. From then on, I went to see them whenever they toured UK for both albums and was completely gutted when the disbanded. This is my fave from Spilt Milk cos of the harmonies. Great touch to the video to play them without the music, it was AWESOME!!!! All those other old band members who wouldn't let you cover it can go suck on it.
Those harmonies are EFFING EPIC. Love finding others that love this album as much as I do... Been listening to it since it was released in 1993.. Great stuff guys..

Thanks Angela! Jealous about you seeing them, I never had the pleasure. We actually covered 'All Is Fogiven' live, back in the 90's, when Chris and I were in the band Donnie goes on about at the end of this (Rufus T. Firefly). One of my faves as well. It was a TOUGH song to pull off live, not sure we ever did it the justice it deserves.
