Interesting fact: Christopher Lee (Scaramanga) was a distant cousin of 007 creator Ian Fleming.

Easy to say now but we have all made the same mistake at some point.
The idea to go outside the playing area of the funhouse and traverse the underneath of it is one of the smartest in Bond history, and the fact that he does it so quickly adds a great level of improvisation to Bond as a character. It's one of my favourite spontaneous pieces of writing in the whole franchise and it does Bond's character all the better for it.
lllogan yes indeed it’s brilliant. Villain sets something up. We assume them’s the rules. Plot, idea, and visuals wise it’s completely out of the box. Clever indeed.
That's interesting, I see it as exactly the opposite. It doesn't make any sense. It's more like the writers set up the scenario (Bond is potentially outclassed by a villain, trapped in his funhouse, and without a weapon) and then couldn't think of an interesting way out of it, so he disappears, somehow replaces a fully clothed dummy in a position he apparently memorised perfectly, without getting seen by either Scaramanga OR the cameras, and either retrieves his own gun off camera (in which case why drop it in the first place), or takes the loaded gun from his dummy (in which case, why did Scaramanga load the gun?). It might as well have been "a wizard did it". It's (SETUP) - (SCENE MISSING) - (VICTORY).
@@lapelcelery42 Bond saw his dummy for a while. You see him staring at it for a solid 5 seconds. He realized the whole place was rigged against him, and unlike other targets, he doesnt try to play by the rules, and instead goes off the stage. Because nicknack didn't expect that, he frantically tries to flip through the cameras to find bond again. And bond, when he loses his gun, realizes he has to take the gun off the dummy he saw. I thought it was pretty clever, even if its silly that there is a loaded gun in the dummy's hand. They couldve made it more believable by making the dummy capable of shooting so scaramanga could practice against it. And thus explain why the gun was loaded. Another neat touch could be that scaramanga would see the dummy (replaced by the real bond), move on, see the dummy, realize that it was moved, and get shot as he turns around.
overal though the scene was really short, considering how the whole movie builds up to it.
@@anonvideo738 I believe Bond went down to retrieve his gun, then got dressed as the dummy. There appears to be a few scenes deleted from this climax; they were either filmed and cut out to increase pacing, or simply weren't filmed, again for pacing.
@@Thicc_Cheese_Dip From the movie it seems that the bond dummy is at the wild west section, bond climbs down from the wild west section, and then should be at a lower level. It doesnt give you a good sense where everything is. I thought the fight couldve lasted longer without killing the pace, it was tense enough to be stretched thinner. I could think of other stuff in the movie they couldve cut for time instead.
If you only showed this scene to someone who never watched this, they would never believe that this is the same movie where Bond randomly ends up in a Karate dojo after being captured, forced to have a fight, jumps out of the window, and then witnesses two school girls beating the hell out of dozens of Karate students.

Scaramanga never really considered the possibility that the environment he created to toy with people as he hunted them could easily be turned against him. The wary expression on his face leading up to 3:08 just before he moves with the barely unnoticeable tiny half smile is a begrudging respect for Bond amidst his mounting fear. He finally realises that this is pure 50:50, which he claimed to want, but all his cocky reassurance and cool demeanor has vanished as all the advantages of his home turf is now something he has to face himself just like his previous victims.
Not so tough now Scaramanga!!

To this day this is one of my favourite bond showdowns, particularly as its revenge for 002 at the start of the movie. That whole labyrinth and mirror setup was incredible for its time.

I loved the fun house show down. And the way Bond outwits it. Nic Nack lost with no idea where he is. Great sequence. I so remember seeing this.

The eeriest part of Scaramanga's death for me, has to be the expression Christopher Lee has as he's dying, because it makes you wonder how many people he's seen make that same face in his service during WW2?
That's not how it actually looks when someone is killed. Besides of that the vast majority of all the soldiers in a war are never actively involved in any combat

@@FantadiRienzo Christopher Lee was involved in clandestine operations during World War 2 which put him in a position where he had to kill German military personnel up close, usually with a knife to keep the noise down. He knows what a man would look like when he's killed, especially when he's caught off guard. There's actually a really neat story about him talking to Peter Jackson about it on the set of Return of the King, because Jackson wanted him to get stabbed and then let out a yell as he dies, and Lee told him, "That's not the sound a man makes when he's stabbed" and proceeded to describe how he knows that.
I would love to see a game mode like this if a new 007 game ever comes out. Where two players go on a duel and you can use the environment to blend in.
I can't remember which, but I distinctly remember one of the 007 games having this as a level.

Surely Bond went down below to retrieve his gun? he couldn't take a chance like that to assume the dummy had a Walther with bullets?

never understood why this movie is ranked relativly low among Bond films. it's one of my favorites. it's everything a Bond film should be - exotic locations, beautiful babes, charismatic bad guy, the great car jump/flip, and the Nick Nack character, who could only be played by Hervé Villechaize, is really the cherry on top. he adds so much character, one of the great all time Bond nemesises.
The slide whistle effect in the car chase sucked though.
I also find the premise of best secret agent vs best assassin very entertaining, but the movie has certain issues, mainly the slide whistle effect, the pointless return of the annoying serif, hip leaving unreasonably bond behind the car, having goodnight at the end puss a botton with her ass making her completely incompetent

He was close friends with Roger Moore on set and they were good friends until Lee passed away in 2015 and Moore passed away only 2 years after Lee

One of the best Bond's moments, if not _the_ best. Beating surveillance system covering the scene by hiding behind the scene.
Not to mention defeating a villain that can ACTUALLY kill him in raw skill alone.

Now what I wanna know is how did Bond have the time to enter the same room as scaramanga then remove the jacket and tie off the waxwork of himself and put them on plus hide the waxwork of himself and get back onto position all without scaramanga or nick nick seeing him just so he could trick and kill scaramanga.

And it's not a bad "thing" to have, Jonathan Cooper! For your classic 007 viewing pleasure, I highly recommend "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969), director Christopher Nolan's favorite James Bond film. Enjoy!
It’s not a bad thing I am only 34 years old and been a big Bond fan since was 8 years old in 95 when first Bond films I saw with my cousin on vhs were The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker which I enjoyed as a kid and the first Bond film i saw in theaters was Goldeneye in 95 when had turned 9 in December that year with my parents. I have been a fan ever since and started collecting the films on vhs as a kid and had them all from Dr No to The World Is Not Enough when Dvd was becoming big. I now have all Bond films on dvd and still watch them when I can but definitely watched them a lot when was a kid up until I was in college. Sean Connery and Roger Moore are good actors and their films are fun to watch if starting out or even Timothy Daltons The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill along with Pierce Brosnan’s Goldeneye. For Connery’s films I would recommend Goldfinger or From Russia With Love, Roger Moore’s best ones I feel are The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only
Cause its different from 2002 and before. The producers in charge of bond series were gold and very ahead of their time
The new producers since daniel craig era (2004 and onwards) totaly changed the bond series and transform into a genetic action movie

I read he was offered the role by Ian Fleming but turned it down, when offered the villains role for TMWTGG he jumped at it.
He was a real-life version of Bond, and was involved in cracking the Enigma code in WWII
I always played him in the multiplayer of Nightfire. His gun was so OP I loved it.
I wish they did a remake of GoldenEye Rogue Agent. If there was a remake, I wish multiplayer was similar like TimeSplitters where bots in various modes with the ones we already saw and additional characters like -

I kidd you not. This is my LEAST favorite Bond film.
And the lousy thing is Bond fired only ONCE at Scaramanga and killed him there, as if he was using the Golden Gun himself. Lame kill.
You know what's even better? Scaramanga knew the fun house like the palm of his hand having a clear advantage over Bond, and he still lost because he got overconfident on his knowledge, Bond used deception in a very cunning way.

One of the most tense Bond finales ever
Scaramanga got so used to hearing Nick Nack's antagonistic quips over the intercom that when for the first time he goes utterly silent (because he can't find Bond on any CCTV camera), he genuinely has nothing to work with. Not a single clue as to what Bond might be up to, not even Nick Nack teasing Scaramanga and giving him a clue that way - nothing. I love the little half-smile at 3:04 where he's like: "Maybe if I walk out into the open, I can draw him out and beat him on reflexes." and proceeds to do so. Not knowing that he'd already seen the trap in 2:30. He just failed to recognize it as such, because it was a familiar silent part of a madhouse of fake scares. A terrible bias that leads to ignoring blatantly obvious real threats.
This is my favorite Moore Bond movie, idc what anyone says.
Ni ck It also really grew on me on the last watch. I rank it way higher than I had it before
honestly I would love it if not for the pointless side plots, and if it just was pure man with the golden gun "best shot" versus "007, best double- agent" "007 meets his match" for real and it goes down for about 1hr 30 minutes. The disruptions with the random company+asians and that horrid dukes of hazzard/smokey and the bandit like sequence just drag it down for me unfortunately.

I agree. It's really not that bad, though there are of course much better entries. One thing that is consistent greatness however is John Barry's scores. The man was a towering genius.

I love so much this movie!!!! TMWTGG is a great Bond movie.
Another awesome Bond final duel. It's not too large in scale, but I love the atmosphere they build up with Bond and Scaramanga trying to both find each other and avoid each other at the same time. Bond's little tricks are awesome too, very clever of him to swap himself with the statue to get the upper hand. And I quite like Scramanga's death too; the way that he says nothing and just falls with a look of dispair is nothing short of impressive.
I can't even tell you how many times I watched this movie growing up. It was my favourite Bond film for a huge amount of time. It's since been bumped to number 2 on my all time list. I was a little young to get most of the innuendo humour when i first watched it, but I still loved it for other reasons. The flying car, the assembled gun, the house on the island.
One of my all time favorite Bonds. Great showdown. When the opening scene of this film starts back in 1974 nobody had seen Kow Ping Khan island. It literally looked like another planet. And the fabulous score in the showdown scene which gets increasingly tense and confused like Scaramnga is

I grew up on Pierce, and he's still my favorite. If he had the crack production team that Daniel Craig benefitted from, he would be ranking way high on the all time Bond list.

Remember being very excited going to see this with my Dad at Barking Odeon.Lee was my favourite actor at the time,but i was too young to get in to the horror movies(11!),so had to make do with this,3 Musketeers,etc.If lucky,they sometimes showed a horror trailer in the ads.Innocent days.

I love these kinds of villains that just loves playing with protagonists' mind.
A great guy is Christopher he has great performances.
I like how he kills sacramenga just on great shot no miss or just wounding him and he comes back later in the movie like knick knack did.
Still one of my favourite Bond Films
Once Bond can no longer be seen by Nick Nack's cameras, he regains advantage.
It's a pity the dummies were played by real people in these fun house sequences, because they distract from an otherwise tightly crafted suspense thriller. Christopher Lee really makes this one of the better Roger Moore Bond pictures. The supporting cast are very good, too. It's one of the few 70s Bond movies I re-watch.

This is a Bond movie that needs to be remade. A great concept of Bond and an anonymous assassin pursuing each other was ruined by unmitigated silliness and a low budget approach. A remake should adhere more closely to Fleming’s novel.

The suspense in this scene! The only other scene that gives me the same feeling is the laser beam scene from Goldfinger - say what you like about Guy Hamilton, his films always had some absolute gold in them!

It has been touched up a bit in recent years. All of the Bond films have been remastered.

I don’t think it is so much hatee but have heard fans who thought the movie was boring and a weaker compared to other Bond films. In box office numbers it was one of the weakest films and not as well liked by critics and fans.
I always liked it myself, but I'm a bit biased for the moore era. I find all of his bonds pretty fun at least. The quirkiness of his villains, missions, and such. I get the camp is cringe for many, but it's all subjective
@@mike91mdk45 I enjoyed the Roger Moore era and I am 34 years old. The first Bond I saw with my cousin and parents were The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker on vhs when I was a kid. I became hooked and saw Goldeneye in theaters in 95 with my parents when was 9 years old. I have been a fan ever since and seen every Bond film and own them all.

TMWTGG was quirky but had great entertainment value. Very kitsch. Loved it and still get a kick from it.

I would have at least taken the Golden Gun as a trophy keepsake.
Its hard to believe that i know Christopher Lee from Star Wars but 3 years after this movie his best friend Peter Cushing plays there. He is the same actor who played with Lee in the horror movies in the 50-60's.
I wish the duel was a raw gunfight battle instead of a cheap stealth kill, but the Golden Gun only holds a one round, so I guess it couldn't do much. If only Scaramanga didn't put a life-like dummy of Bond inside his trap, as without it, he would most likely kill Bond first, as he is a faster draw than 007 himself. Scaramanga is the best anti-Bond villain, played by the perfect actor for him.
RIP Christopher Lee and Roger Moore.
