    The idea of monkey rider symbiosis is such a novel detail. The niche partitioning was also really interesting. Love the way you’re integrating such core biological concepts here.
    My one thought is that the current lineup of herbivorous dragons are small, gracile creatures. I’d love to see some tanky herbivorous dragons that adapt their fire to aid digestion of denser, woodier plants. This world is so inspiring!

    The wing runners may have the most potential as they will probably change the dragons with selective breeding. The concept of dragon riding could become way more common in the future!

The best I could come up with when making a culture of dragon tamers was that the humans let the dragons nest within the city walls, and in return the dragons attack invading armies. Yes that's technically symbiosis not taming, but it's the best thing my setting would reasonably allow

    1:59 has anyone actually _tried_ to selectively breed zebras for several hundred generations to alter their nature to one that is more mellow and easier to train? Domestication is a very long-term project, and the animals aren't very useful (and even quite dangerous) for most of the way. It took a couple thousand years to get horses to their current state.
    Now imagine that with dragons.

    • @bigdaddycoatesy3079
      @bigdaddycoatesy3079 4 месяца назад +14

      Thats why he goes into detail on all the traits needed for domestication and why only some are even conceivably tamed, the red racers are herbivorous grazers with a co-operative social system, similar to horses, but also have a natural and evolutionary symbiosis with the dragonkin monkeys. Meaning most of the work of being accepted by the dragons has already been done for them

Indeed Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus! xD Intriguing how the concept of herbivorous dragons is currently being highlighted more and more, funny and at the same time coherent considering those guardians of mineral fruits or rodents with milky roots...I adore your every speculative biological detail you put into it, great historical background of domestication to consider and as always fantastic pieces of worldbuilding artwork!! 2:16 what I think would be perhaps interesting would be a sort of human species which has evolved a symbiotic relationship with a special dragon species. Of course these humans would still retain their intelligence but they'd be like more sympathetic towards dragons due to looking like one because of this symbiosis. Of course they wouldn't be merciless so they'd probably have morals like not killing babies and not fighting those who can't fight because that would be an unworthy fight, etc.

    The speed of the red racer, as well as the defense’s of other creatures suggests that there used to be a larger predator. I mean it could Possibly be that the ancestor of the red racer was this predator, but why wouldn’t need to keep it speed if it wasn’t hunting anything? it would be a waste of resources… unless there was another reason for its speed.

  • @RubyCarrots3232

    The dragons in my setting are sapient and the relationship is more dragoncentric. The dragon at a preschool age is selected and put through an intensive binding ritual that swaps half its soul with a seemingly random human infant- small child in the world. After about a decade of preparation the two are brought to meet each other in designated areas using their innate homing instinct to do the work of navigating. Less dragon mount and more of a familiar.

    • @RubyCarrots3232
      @RubyCarrots3232 2 месяца назад +3

      The reason for the delay is because they want the dragon and human to be roughly the same age and so their skills and abilities can be properly honed in by the time they meet. That an enthusiastic young will be disciplined enough not to harm their partner by accident and the human will be able to safely ride and aid their companion without supervision which would be nearly impossible to maintain. This age is between 12-16yrs old for the human with an average of 13.

      @@RubyCarrots3232 In my setting the relationship between dragon and rider is dominated by the dragon. Dragons require vast amounts of food to survive, so they will use dragonlords as political pawns to instigate wars. These wars provide the corpses necessary for their survival. Most dragon riders hate their mounts, and would kill them if given the chance, but doing so would result in bonding sickness that usually kills.

    • @sawyerleeart
      @sawyerleeart  4 месяца назад +1

      With great intrigue! and a dash of judgement. Grinner, as a Kilnneck, has the capacity to bite or burn when too many people are about. think along the lines of him being a tamed monitor lizard vs the more horse-like Red Racer- much more risk!

    6:47 the Red Racer looks fantastic, here!
    7:31 i presume this means that their fire-gullet is well developed (with the exception of the Red Racer)?
    7:40-7:50 so even the Red Racer can melt and spew molten material?
    7:57 oh... so *not* molten material. though i vaguely remember the Red Racer's page on Deviantart mentioning its blood spit. didn't know it boiled it, first.
    8:06-8:12 just from the nostrils, or from the mouth? and how far does the breath go?
    and it reminds me of The Witcher's Golden Dragon: it breathes both fire, and hot steam.
    changing the topic, why am i blocked on Twitter? i don't recall doing anything that'd warrant it.
    please don't leave me in the dark. i don't know what i did to deserve this.
