Great great video! I have been in the learning mode for some months. I filled 2 notebooks with notes. Crazy! But now that I'm starting with action (product research) all the info I learned gets confusing as there are many different ways of doing things (info overload). Your video helped me calming down, and writing a plan and now I feel more confident. Just check those 3 things and oif it passes all of them onto the spreadhseet. I was checking a hundred things and it was getting overwhelming. Thanks a lot!
Oh! and teaching the WHY...OMG, soo important!! We all know we have to sell 300/moth and ideally make $10 profit but how you explained the WHY was invaluable. On some markets I sow sales of 200-250 and thought, well not too bad. But now I know exactly what numbers I have to have in mind and if its a market that sells less per month, either I need a bigger margin or a market that sells at a higher price.
I'm happy to hear you found value in the video! Keep at it, you'll get better at product research the more you do it. Take your time though, it's not a race and it's the most important part of the entire process. If you have any questions, let me know.

How do we fix that? 3. What should be the optimal situation in that regard ? Thanks
Thank you for your feedback I appreciate it. The average sales to review ratio is around 1%. There's no way to force any one to leave a review so if a listing has a higher or lower ratio, well, that's just how it happened to end up. Once a listing reaches in the triple+ digit reviews, the actual number of reviews doesn't really matter anymore psychologically when compared to other listings with triple or more reviews.
Im a new subbie... you are a good teacher. I learn a lot from you. Your voice is also good and modulated over all my time is not wasted i get something from every video. Keep it up thank you
Thanks for a great explanation...let me clarify something though..When using the JS, it shows the top products...what's the basis why its on the top list?thanks
I'm glad you found it helpful! The default order in JS is the same default order you see when you do the search on Amazon. It's the organically ranked order. This order to primarily based on the daily sales velocity of each listing. The listing with more sales are ranked higher in the search results. This is an updated video on this: ruclips.net/video/0mZNtxtmRus/видео.html
Thanks for the video, Cresent. I understand your goal by trying to get people to set their goals, but I don't quite get the need to go through the process of converting monthly profit into daily profit, only to then go back up to monthly sales levels. If you know your monthly profit goal, and you know your target margin p/unit, then your monthly sales are simply 'monthly sales'/'margin'. There's no need to complicate it, espcially if JS gives you monthly sales, not daily. To explain what i mean using an analogy, if you wanted to get from one mountain peak to another peak, across an exisitng bridge between the two peaks (shortest and easiest way), then why would you go down all the way to the valley (daily figures), just to climb back up again (monthly figures)? Do you know what i mean? KISC (Keep It Simple Cresent!) :) Thanks again!
There's no right or wrong way to do it. The more granular the data set is, the better in my opinion. Especially since listing rank is based primarily on daily sales velocity and when you're doing product tracking. It also helps you figure out if the product is profitable or not when gathering unit costs.
Hi Crescent! Thank you so much for all your info! I’m starting product research now and I’ve found a really good product but it has nothing to really do with the brand I would like to build. I wanted to stick to health and wellness and build a fitness brand, but it’s extremely competitive. Do you think I should stick to my brand and just sell these good products anyway? Or should I just change my whole brand? Thank you!
Hello! You're welcome! I'm glad you found value in the content! If you've found a product that you think will make you money, then in my opinion, there's no reason to abandon it because it doesn't align with your brand. You don't have to stick to specific branding or a type product on Amazon. Use a more generic brand name or create a new brand to sell it under.
Superb stuff , your inputs give lot of confidence and inside strategy on choosing the right product, I owe you a lot once my product goes live.. thanks for sharing your experience.
Hi Crescent Kao , why don't you refer to the overall average bar marked with the orange color at the top instead of considering only the top 10? Thank you
Hello Ahmed Raed. I do not recommend using the averages at the top. The average isn't the number you need to consider. A few listings with really high or really low numbers will throw off an average. You really need to be looking at the median but that isn't available, so you must look at the actual numbers from each listing. This video goes over it: ruclips.net/video/j3QupcRMG7I/видео.html
Great video! I definitely agree taking into consideration the supplier shipping cost and Amazon fees before diving into product research. However, I'm still trying to wrap my head around how you got the unit shipping cost from China of $5 even without deciding on a product yet.
I'm glad you found value in the video. Products that are typically in the small and light (standard size) tier, will cost around $5/unit to ship from China. But this is before the increased shipping costs nowadays due to the pandemic.
Hi Crescent My name is Terry I must say this video has been one of the best videos that has helped me in my research. I do have a question. once you find the product your looking for do you have to find the exact product on Alibaba or can it be similar? thank you for great info.
Hello terry flynn, how are you doing? Thank you for your feedback and input, I appreciate it! When sourcing the product you're interested in, it doesn't have to be exactly the same. You should have hopefully identified ways to differentiate the product to add value such as improving it through design or materials, etc. So contact suppliers and see if they're able to accommodate those changes. Hope that helps!
This is exactly what I was looking for, the step before product research. You're a genius! Thank you so much for sharing and helping us out... Also, you should prob name this vid something more specific since it was so helpful.
Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it! I have many other videos on product research on my channel as well. Here's one: ruclips.net/video/LlWDQ_IEnrk/видео.html
Thanks for the video! When people say we need to improve the product to overcome the competition, how is it possible if the source is maybe the same? Can we ask the supplier to put some extra features, or so? Or to improve the package?
Hello alosgm1. You're welcome. It's not required to improve the product. It's one method you can use to differentiate yours. Anything is possible. Just contact suppliers and negotiate with them on any changes you want to make. I can't answer on their behalf, so just ask they'll be able to tell you if they can do it or not and how much it will cost. This video goes over it: ruclips.net/video/E27_fsNRZGU/видео.html

I want to sell a product that I am passionate about, I want to create many products in this niche, but it has high demand with high competition. If i will make really competitive products, does it worth to sell it? Thank you for your advice.
Hello Shana! The BSR doesn't really matter when you're looking at the particular niche. When you're researching the niche, it's more important to gauge the overall competitiveness and monthly sales volume. How competitive the niche is will dictate the difficulty of ranking your listing amongst the top sellers on the first page. Sales volume will give you an idea how many units you can expect to sell. The BSR of the individual listings doesn't play a role.
HI there, you have to be the best teacher ever. I appreciate how you explain it so well. I am struggling to find that one thing to sell and I am thinking of just selling on FB through the garage sale sites to get me started and hope I come up with some thing I can go online with. I am in agreement that nothing that goes on the skin or in their mouth and I am using the same rules for any pets products I look at. That is a liability case just waiting for the court room.
Hello Debbie Glossop. Thank you so much for your feedback and input, I appreciate it! Product research is the most important part of the entire process so you definitely want to take your time and find a good product. But the key is taking action and being persistent and not get discouraged. If you already have capital saved up to start, there's no reason to put it off by doing something else. Take action now.
good morning Mr Kao, I have a question to ask please: Last night I purchased Jungle Scout thru your link, I started to search and search for products. I found most of my product i searched that came from the same brand, I remembered you said that "brand dominant, should avoid" is it correct. I found that one product could sell very well from one seller, for example the list from jungle scout showed that seller has multiple sell while other sellers not sell well at all. Should I just pay attention on the products not sell well by one seller ? thanks for your advice
You said Lock pick sets are the gated product. Why we can not sell it and any other product in the category gated product. So by looking at the product we will avoid it. Thanks
Hello @Angela Knox, how are you doing? Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it! I'm happy you found value in the video. If you have any questions, let me know!
Made mistake(?) of buying Christmas set. Its selling well then amazon decide to pull 53 to 81! ( unsure amount , cant get straight answer) rest sold out. They said some transferring ( but not avail?) And some being rechecked. How long that take, its been 6 days! Zero available! Is there someone above the help center to contact? They are going to stick me with bunch of inventory! Ship aprox 24x24x24 box back to my small condo and look at it for a year or Get charge extra storage after 1 year. Dont know how much that would be.
Not quite sure what you're saying. Amazon moves inventory around to other warehouses to make sure they can meet the 1-2 day Prime shipping for buyers. It can take a while and the units aren't available during that time.
@@CrescentKao hi :-) thanks for responding. Looks to me like fc processing 50 units . Employee claim fc processing and transferring = 81 units . One unit bad so guessing why they pulled all a week ago to check. Zero available for sale. Season buying over ? Was selling good. They are screwing me big. I want to sell a product that I am passionate about, I want to create many products in this niche, but it has high demand with high competition. If i will make really competitive products, does it worth to sell it?
Thank you. Yes, all the strategies work for any marketplace. You just have to be aware that if you're looking to do a marketplace other than the US, the sales volume will be considerably less when you're doing product research as well as any cultural differences that might affect the popularity of a product or niche, and potentially any differences in how products are described when choosing the broadest keywords.
Your content is always great but just because the first 10+ or so have too many reviews since I'm in the SEO stuff sometimes that doesn't even matter! Keywords, PPC, the price and what extra stuff you're offering on top of what these BIG sellers are selling can be your rise from the bottom and eventually to the top brother. I use to use the Google Adwords to help my business but in reality NOW it's all in the keywords and I don't pay a cent and currently being listed on the first page with no $$$ invested in adwords! I am very competitive by trait but I don't think we should encourage new sellers to run if the first 1-10 or even 1-20 sellers have high reviews, remember they started like we did right from the bottom!
Hello! Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it! You're right, if you add enough value and do your due diligence, you can certainly do very well. However, from my experience when teaching, a lot of people need structure and defined numbers to work with. So, for a beginner, working with defined figures and filters, and looking for low competition niches will set them up for success and give them the ability where they can extrapolate and expand how they do their product research in the future.
If I want to make a profit of $5 per unit sale then price of the product must be at $24-25 as you are not considering the expense of ppc while computing the net profit..as a beginner one must consider fba fee+referral fee+product cost+cost of ppc..am I right??
It's difficult to predict what PPC will cost, that's why it's not included in the net profit calculation. The higher your margins, the more room you leave yourself for ads or other expenses.
@@CrescentKao If I'm selling as a wholesaler, and a product has few sellers but a lot of reviews (over 75), would that mean it's not a good product for me?
It's an average number I've found that helps determine the level of competition within a niche. It is no longer 75, here's an updated video on this: ruclips.net/video/0mZNtxtmRus/видео.html
Thank you for reminding me to do such an important part...I'm almost embarrassed telling you a I forgot (so many things on my mind). I'm very glad to have come across your video..definitely a sub and a like . Your other video brought me here so thanks again. Rob
Hello rob pyne! How are you doing? I'm glad to hear you identified a problem and was able to resolve it! Thank you for your feedback and support, I appreciate it! I hope you continue to find value in my videos.
Hello Diablo Chrome. That’s not enough information to say. You need to figure out what the profit margin is at that sale price and decide if that profit margin is sufficient for you. Some people are happy making $5/unit whereas other won’t touch a product for less than $10 profit/unit. It’s up to you what you value your time at.
Crescent Kao Yes, that makes sense. What about suppliers? Don’t you think Alibaba is too saturated and tend to be “low end products” as we always have the “Made In China” perception which gives us a specific view in terms of quality and could affect the customer reviews when selling
Great video, I have just bought Jungle Scout and am getting to grips with the basics. I have joined your group so i may need your help in the coming future :)
thehaddok101 That’s great! JS is an invaluable tool for making your product research faster and more efficient. Welcome to the group! If you have any questions, just post them up or send me a PM. 😎
Hi Crescent, can you tell me what the top 10 ranking in JS is defined by please if you know. As there are sometimes items that sell more or for a higher price or a higher Amazon ranking item lower down in the list. Why do so many mentors only look at the top 10 for the 3 criteria? Also, for UK sellers, I'm thinking of using slightly lower review numbers as the market is smaller, would this be correct? Many thanks for all your videos.
Hello Rob Greene. The rankings, not just the top 10, are sorted primarily by the daily sales velocity. The more a listing sells per day, the higher the ranking. However, some other factors affect the ranking too such as the age of the listing so it's not a rule of thumb. You are only really concerned with the top 10 or listings on the first page because those are the listings you will be directly competing with. Your goal is to get your listing ranked onto the first page. For any market, the level of competition should be analyzed the same way, 7 of the top 10 under 75 reviews. The only difference is the smaller markets will have less sales volume, so you can't expect a niche to do the same as in the US. This video might help: ruclips.net/video/10C384Jts20/видео.html
Hello @Tommy Gun. I personally prefer to stick with products $20+. $15 is the bare minimum as the FBA fees will eat up most of the profits so it'd be difficult to hit a $10 profit margin per unit.
Hello chogi lah! How are you doing? I would be cautious if there is only one seller of the product you're interested in. Either there is no demand for the product or the product is patented.
This is why product research is so important in order to find the niches that are in high demand, low competition. If it were easy, everyone would be successful. No one ever achieved anything by giving up.
I offer consulting and one-on-one coaching for students that take my course. You can find details on my website: www.crescentkao.com You can get free help in my Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/AmazonBeginnerMastery/
Just don't tell people to aim for max 75 review.... You won't find anything worthwhile like that in the webapp, you can quite easily snipe 300-600review sellers if you know what you doing and have budget at least 3,000$ what matters on Amazon is sales volume to rank you on 1st page and can do that with VERY few reviews..
Hello THeNuke03. While I agree that setting a max 75 reviews is limiting, this video is targeted primarily to beginners that most likely do not know what they are doing and may have a smaller budget. Beginners more often than not need stricter and clearly defined guidelines to prevent them from getting in trouble or in over their heads. Additionally, I don't agree that a niche with an average of 300-600 reviews on the first page is a smart decision. That's just way too high. Buyers have a psychological tendency to gravitate towards listings that have more reviews especially if there is a large discrepancy. Buyers will tend to choose a listing that has thousands of reviews over one that has hundreds, and they'll choose a listing that has hundreds over a listing that has dozens if all other factors are similar such as price and value.
Hello Moe. If your profit goal is $10k/mo then the math is pretty simple. Each day, you'll need to profit $333. So, while you're doing your product research, you'll need to find products that will achieve that. If the sales volume is 100 units/day, then you'll need to make $3.33 profit/unit, or if it's moving 50 units per day then you'll have to make $6.66 profit/unit, etc etc. With that number, you'll be able to calculate the FBA fee and then figure out what the unit cost needs to be including shipping from your supplier. This video goes into more detail about it: ruclips.net/video/0fiRQhM19uc/видео.html
@@CrescentKao i have a question I've been selling on amazon for a about a month but im only using vipon and basically riding other peoples listings and selling their products for .50 cents or a dollar less to gain buyers but at the end of the day its not enough to actually generate income. Ive been looking into jungle scout a lot lately and i think its an amazing tool! but my question is, have you heard of tactical arbitrage?? and would it be a good investment to use both jungle scout and tactical arbitrage to boost sales? because i can find products with tactical arbitrage and then basically see the sales ranking on jungle scout. or do you think io only need one of these tools?? i really enjoy your content and im curious to know what you have to say about this should i use both or just one? is it worth it?
I don't do arbitrage. Arbitrage is a good way to build up starting capital if you don't have the funds to start a private label product. Arbitrage isn't scaleable like private label is. It takes way too much time.
let's look at sale prices and let's ignore manufacturing price - it may be that it's already a quarter of the profit or more, but nah, let's look at sales, we want them to be consistent, yeah, let's ignore the fact that some may have just entered the market this or last month, or never ran ppc, or set their price higher than average, nope, that doesn't matter. so let's continue to search for a product that sales amazingly, has a massive margin ( at least 50% after all costs - at the end of the day you want to earn $10 while selling a product for $20, no $15 in fact - LOL!) a product that is super popular but has hardly any reviews - another LOL.... silly video for silly people.
Apparently, you didn't understand that this video's intent was to focus on the 2 key mistakes. If you want more in depth details on doing proper product research, of course you need to consider other criteria. You'd be a fool not to and you'd be ignorant to believe I didn't know that, although your sarcasm seems to suggest otherwise. There's no way to force any one to leave a review so if a listing has a higher or lower ratio, well, that's just how it happened to end up. Once a listing reaches in the triple+ digit reviews, the actual number of reviews doesn't really matter anymore psychologically when compared to other listings with triple or more reviews.
you should be the only one entitled to talk about product research..thank, much appreciated!

I only sell in the US marketplace so my experience is mostly in that area.

Hi Crescent Kao
, why don't you refer to the overall average bar marked with the orange color at the top instead of considering only the top 10?
Thank you
Hello Ahmed Raed.

I want to sell a product that I am passionate about, I want to create many products in this niche, but it has high demand with high competition. If i will make really competitive products, does it worth to sell it? Thank you for your advice.
Avoid competitive niches.
HI Crescent, great video thank you! Have a Q? Why don't you also take the BSR's into consideration when selecting a product?
Hello Shana! The BSR doesn't really matter when you're looking at the particular niche. When you're researching the niche, it's more important to gauge the overall competitiveness and monthly sales volume. How competitive the niche is will dictate the difficulty of ranking your listing amongst the top sellers on the first page. Sales volume will give you an idea how many units you can expect to sell. The BSR of the individual listings doesn't play a role.
Thank you, this is really helpful and narrows everything down!
You're welcome! Thank you for your feedback!
HI there, you have to be the best teacher ever. I appreciate how you explain it so well. How do you identify a lock pick? And why
Not sure what you're asking. Can you rephrase the question?
good morning Mr Kao, I have a question to ask please: Last night I purchased Jungle Scout thru your link, I started to search and search for products.
Avoid band dominated niches.
You said Lock pick sets are the gated product. Why we can not sell it and any other product in the category gated product. So by looking at the product we will avoid it. Thanks
You can't sell restricted/prohibited products. You can sell in gated categories if you get ungated.

It can take a while and the units aren't available during that time.

great video, does all your information and stratergies still work the same if iam working on UK pages
Great explanation! Very well done! Thank you.
Walter Diaz You’re welcome!
awesomely explain....must watch for beginners
Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it!
I was just looking at a product and the reviews were my only concern,..the sales are there and the price point is very good.
Make sure the niche meets ALL of the criteria you've set out ahead of time.
Great video Crescent. Keep it up bro.
Thank you and I appreciate your feedback!
If we are selling FBA Wholesale, does the number of reviews on a product matter?
Reviews always matter.
@@CrescentKao If I'm selling as a wholesaler, and a product has few sellers but a lot of reviews (over 75), would that mean it's not a good product for me?

Crescent, in your opinion, let’s say I want to sell 150 units per month, and put a price tag of $44.99, is it good enough? Note: Could be luxury items

Thank you so much. this video very helpful.
You're welcome. I'm happy you found value in the video!

Hello @Tommy Gun. I personally prefer to stick with products $20+. $15 is the bare minimum as the FBA fees will eat up most of the profits so it'd be difficult to hit a $10 profit margin per unit.
What are pick sets
Lock pick sets. They are tools you can use to pick locks. They are restricted items on Amazon. Don't sell them.

will competing with the only seller with not a lot of reviews be do able?
Hello chogi lah! How are you doing? I would be cautious if there is only one seller of the product you're interested in. Either there is no demand for the product or the product is patented.
This whole selling on Amazon is so frustrating. I'm three days in and can't take it anymore. So much competition.
This is why product research is so important in order to find the niches that are in high demand, low competition. If it were easy, everyone would be successful. No one ever achieved anything by giving up.

Buyers will tend to choose a listing that has thousands of reviews over one that has hundreds, and they'll choose a listing that has hundreds over a listing that has dozens if all other factors are similar such as price and value.
my goal is to make $10000 profit a month. How many products and what is the price range i need to sell?
