Nice video and equally impressive ribs. I found the fuel consumption information very interesting and would be keen to know the size of the engine and rib as well as the average speed as I am guessing you were not flat out everywhere. One other thing was the duration for each leg i.e. 109 NM etc. I have dived for years up in that area and I can tell you that you were lucky to get such good weather for so long :)
How wonderful is that! I just been to Scotland this June, how I wished I had my Rib there. I must do it next time when I visit again! How do you figure out where to fuel up and anchor? Thanks!
Generally fuel up near Oban (Dunbeg) and carry enough fuel for the round trip. eg 100nm, 130ltr fill and carry an extra 30ltr Hulk for top-up and 12ltr for aux. Not a lot of fuelling options. easy walking distance at Tobermory but other than that you'll need land transport. As for anchoring, all the trips were day-trips and we based ourselves in Dunstaffnage.
Ok thanks, I’ve bought a motor boat near Oban and I want to sail it to Ireland like you did in video but not for couple months , is it a straightforward trip any danger spots too look out for ?
@@mogggggg1 Depends on a few factors. I've done a few trips to Ireland (Ballycastle, Rathlin, Bangor, Dublin) from the Clyde and Oban to Port Ellen on Islay from Oban but not the bit from Port Ellen to Ireland. Obviously depends on the boat, equipment, your experience and the big one.... weather. Plenty of good "bolt holes" on the trip to Port Ellen but there is a raging current through the Sound of Islay, a bit lumpy at either end and once your south of Islay it very exposed. Pick your weather window carefully.
@@nauticalmiles7087 thanks for this, The boat is a 35 ft rodman twin engines cruise 20 knots I have experience from fishing boats in South Wales for years the tides are big down here But never did a trip this distance , once I get to Ireland I intend to follow coast down to Wexford area then crossover to Milford haven where I’ll leave boat for a few months Appreciate your info thanks 🙏
@@mogggggg1 That should be a breeze. What reefs are there are all well charted and there's plenty of deep water round them, with 20knots under your belt the tides won't be a problem. Corryvreckan, Grey Dogs and the Sound of Islay have strong tidal races and can create dangerous standing waves but you don't need to go through any of them....Straight down the sound of Jura. Biggest issue, particularly in the dark, is lobster pot buoys and I'd imagine you've "been there, got the T shirt".

3 of the ribs were 6.5m and had 150hp a Honda mercury and a Yamaha the rib craft was a 6.8 with a 200 Suzuki averaging about 24nm/hr
