    So witcher 3 basically fixed every one of these complaints. Clunky interface? Let's make it easier, and actually explain it. Terrible tutorial? Let's take the whole first chapter of the next game tutorializing everything. Can't drink potions during combat? Done. Autosave too stingy? Fixed. No fast travel? Added, but you can't fast travel from anywhere. Now that is how you make a sequel.

      i just started playing the witcher series from the first game. IMO I must say i didn't have many problems when i got to the witcher 2. Overall i really like the game it was a blast! the combat was fun. the auto save works wonders compared to the first witcher not to mention you dont really need a fast travel usually everything is in the same area or along the way. An i find not doing the tutorial is better cause the controls are not very hard to grasp right away not to mention i believe there is a save screen that shows all the controls somewhere in the begging of the game. It was a big jump from the first game for me. Every big choice even makes you feel like it matters an there is out comes along the way. I would also recommend playing the first witcher before this one because it makes it 1000 times better and make way more sense.

      games slayer
      That's because enhanched edition actually added detailed tutorial, made chapter III like 2-3 hours longer and improved controls and inventory system. Joe reviewed game right atfer it came to sell.

    Damn, I really loved this game. The only problem I found, was that I went in hearing about a 'really difficult game that doesn't hold your hand at all'. What I instead got was an enjoyable first half, and a sudden drop in difficulty in the second. Halfway through Vergen (only played the Iorweth path) , I was near invincible.
    But my God, the writing was amazing. The way the plot unfolds with every level was awesome. My gripe with the writing though, is that...well, it wasn't terribly conclusive.
    Still one of the best games I've played.

      Well then brace yourself for The Witcher 3, because it will go full on "Game of Thrones" on our asses!
      Spoiler alert! Major ones. Do not read past this if you do not want to know intrigue!
      We have Geralt's adopted daughter Ciri chased by the wild hunt dropping in. Her dad and long lost friend of Geralt, Emhyr, is the emperor of Nilfguard and the prophecy states, that her son will rule half the world and her grandson - the whole world. So Emhyr wants to marry Ciri and make babies with her. The wild hunt are after the power to teleport into other worlds, oh and turns out they are an elite conquering elven force from another dimension, where elves have purged all humans. That is one hell of a roller coaster!

      At first I thought it was a game like dragon age so I played on hard though it was my first time playing it, but when I got to the 1st chapter it was goddamn hard this game requires skill, precision, timing, strategy..it was a game built for skilled gamers not for some dumbass single button smashers that doesn't use brain..

      What difficulty did you play, though? I personally played Iorveth's path on Normal, then Roche's path on Dark. The difficulty difference seemed pretty big to me.
      I agree on the writing; it's a really good game story-wise. You should check the books as well, I'm reading them currently. The first one seems excellent so far.

    I don't get what the whole issue is with this game having no fast travel tbh. I mean, it's not like the maps in this game were *that* big. I never felt like it was taking too long to get anywhere...

    • @TomaszWota

      Jacen Solo Tomasz Wota I agree with you guys for the most part, except for in chapter 2 if you went to Vergen. Having to run to the harpy grounds and all around that area got really annoying considering how many times you have to backtrack to that area.

    • @TechnoMinarchist
      @TechnoMinarchist 9 лет назад +1

      KeusFrench That's more of an issue with the fact that the game had very strict ways of traveling on foot (can't jump over stuff etc). But I get what you mean, it was annoying for sure.

    • @TomaszWota

      The story is a different story, i thought we're talking about gameplay here.
      I do agree that Skyrim's combat is disgustingly easy compared to The Witcher's. Or how there's a floating magic quest marker for every quest objectives, treating us like a child.
      But all those can be fixed by mods.
      And also that's the point of my previous comment, i acknowledge Bethesda's flaw of design, but fortunately, there are the ever vigilant modding community to fix their fuck ups

    • @alfinandy1612
      @alfinandy1612 8 лет назад +16

      Here's the thing kid. Quest markers remove the sense of exploration and discovery. If you have played Morrowind, they don't have quest markers, instead, the quest giver tells you the information of where it is, that adds a whole lot to immersion and roleplay.
      With quest markers, you no longer have to track where the quest objective is since there's a freaking radar telling you where it is, most people just B-line to the location.
      Sure it's convenient, but they're just dumbing it down for the kids.

    • @FilthyNobeard
      @FilthyNobeard 8 лет назад +2

      +Donelle Lee You can not simply turn quest marker off. You're given no other direction. Those markers are your only means of tracking down the objective as no NPC gives you any actual directions. Just the goal they want you to accomplish. Some of my favorite quests in Skyrim and Oblivion force me to operate without the markers.

      Deathx Kinslayer A word of advise: when you import your TW2 save game to TW3, choose the Roche path save data because TW3 will choose it as the canon path/ending and completely ignores Ioverth's path regardless. It's not a big deal and it doesn't affect the game but it should help you avoid being like "WTF" when you import Iorverth save data and the game just pretends it never happened.

    • @Darksider087
      @Darksider087 9 лет назад

      Nelson W. Ooh man x( well thanks for the heads up man, was gonna do roache's path on the 2nd go anyway, eventhough I much prefer Ioverth so far.

    • @trollingextreme
      @trollingextreme 9 лет назад

      Nelson W. I've noticed one benefit of the Iorveth's path and I'm 80 hours into the witcher 3 already. I don't think it's a spoiler so I'm gonna tell you. In Novigrad there is a side quest in which you meet a dwarf who is guarding some entrance and in my case he let me pass easily without a fight and said something like "Great job there in Vergen, witcher!".
      Oh and importing saves doesn't make any sense because you'll be missing a discussion. Unless you have problem remembering your decisions.

    • @nelsonw9483
      @nelsonw9483 9 лет назад +1

      Amur That's about the only thing, and even that can be easily be fixed with an Axii Sign if he doesn't want to let you in. Besides that, Ioverth and Saskia are non-existent, and for some reason Roche treats you like you're his best buddy and helps you out in a big battle because according to him, "you were there when he needed you the most." Most people who imported Iorverth's ending would be like "wut?"

    • @trollingextreme
      @trollingextreme 9 лет назад

      Nelson W. You're right :D Still I'm 100% sure that either Iorveth or Saskia will appear in the upcoming expansions. Probably in this Touissant city.

    • @AbraKadavr8
      @AbraKadavr8 10 лет назад +3

      I thought Geralt was born in Rivia, which is in the kingdom of Lyria which is south of Aedirn and east of Temeria.

    • @TheOneWhoDisagreed
      @TheOneWhoDisagreed 10 лет назад +34

      But Geralt was not born in Kaer Morhen. He was taken from his mother by the witchers of Kaer Morhen when he was still a toddler. So, Geralt grew in Kaer Morhen, yes, but he was not born there. And he isn't from Rivia either; he just picked "of Rivia" because Vesemir, the witcher-master at Kaer Morhen motivated his witchers to have a name that would sound amiable or attractive to people so they would buy their monsters-slaying services. Curiosly, Geralt earn the title of knight of Rivia after the Battle for the Bridge on the Yaruga later, so he is officially "of Rivia", as a knight, not as a commoner.
      If I'm not wrong.

      +abra kadavr Geralt wasn't born in Rivia, he was trained at the Witcher academy sort of thing, and it is a requirement all Witchers must have a town after their first name, Geralt's mother or friend chose 'of Rivia.'

    So i started playing this game, the Enhanced Edition, on 360.... did the added tutorial and was really itching to get into the story after it.
    Started the prologue, on Normal, because i didnt want the game to be "too easy" i found myself dying multiple times in the tutorial, so i switched the difficulty to easy.... which i regret. Throughout the easy difficulty setting i probably used the "health" potions less than 5 times and never died after switching it. Combat became too easy i rarely had to use any traps or any of my bombs and some of the quick time events are taken out to help the game flow....
    However, seeing as it is a for sure multiple playthrough game, my second playthrough will be on normal for sure..
    The game is just like joe says, it is made for adults. The vocabulary and dialogue is very advanced at times. The story is beyond complex and can easily get confusing and act as a turn off for the faint of heart. You'll do yourself a favor to read the in game books, and browse through the journal that has bio's of characters, events and places... Once you get a grasp on the game, i guarantee that you will be hooked. And again, like joe says, it does a great job of setting the stage for the next game, which is supposedly going to be ridiculously fun....
    For sure give this one a try and not the ol' "college try", i felt like i was laboring through the first 3 hours, loads of story minimal combat and just being confused, but once chapter one finally got going the game had me locked in.

      reifsneider You can switch difficulty any time, but yeah I have to say, The Witcher 2 is a great game, but after playing The Witcher 3, The Witcher 2 ALREADY feels dated. With 3's crazy hair physics, wind affects, graphics, better open world, and several other things, I still look back at The Witcher 2 as an amazing for its time, but honestly gets its ass kicked by Witcher 3. Witcher 2 and 3 are both amazing.

    • @The-Joke-s-on-you
      @The-Joke-s-on-you 9 лет назад

      reifsneider Difficulty issues are almost the same in Witcher 3:
      Normal becomes too easy fast, so better choose one of the last two settings and you will quite face a challenge here and then, even later on in the game! :)

    How does this only have 290,000 views?! This is the best modern RPG I've ever played. It feels like a real authentic RPG. There were aspects of this game that blows away other titles I've played. This was such an amazing story to behold, the game was difficult and welcomed challenge. Combat was done very well. This was a game that was gritty and mature, like a RPG for adults.
    Choices had never been shown so much cause and affect. Everything you did had a major role to play in the ending. *Mild Spoiler I won't say what the ending was just its overall feel* Some argued they didn't like the ending cause it wasn't a happy ending. But it was realistic, should you take the path of the hero the game exposes you to the true burden a hero must feel. That no matter how much you fight the battle against evil, it won't ever come to an end. Evil isn't in a boss at the end of the game, its within the very core of civilization. As long as there are people with free will evil will always be a constant battle. And what people deem evil may turn out to be no worse than the very people who are fighting it. I thought Iroveth was a bad guy but after taking his path I realized him and his Elves are just being discriminated against. Should you give him a chance he actually turns out to be a good friend.
    Granted this story was already written by an amazing author but we've seen games with good source material turn out for the worse. I can't wait for The Witcher 3 cause there are no other games like the Witcher out there. I'm addicted to this game because the story was so immersive while I was playing it I felt like I was in a dream, and after beating the game I had that same feeling after you wake up from a really good dream, you just want to go back to sleep so it doesn't end. This story sticks with you long after you beat it. Not to mention they fixed a lot of the issues in the Enhanced Edition that was released for free in addition to the game. That is a gaming company I can get behind and be proud to say I'm a fan of.

      TheMinxTail Oh yeah... no one wants to sign up for stupid Google+
      Ugh I swear this is so stupid. I love the fact that RUclips has more connectivity with users and an easier notification manager, also being able to write more than 500 characters is nice. But all these changes could have been made without shoehorning us in with Google+ but that would mean more work so Google didn't want to do that. And whatever bullshit reason they have for doing it through Google+ is a lie. They just wanted their social network to finally get some activity. But no matter how much activity they get everyone knows it was against people's will. There's a reason why Google+ isn't as popular as Facebook or Twitter, any entry level web designer can tell ya the site is a sloppy mess. Google+ has bugs and glitches, failed loading errors and no customizing options. If people want to use a failed social network then let them. But RUclips should be its own thing, Google may own RUclips but they didn't create it. It's not their plaything... many users where here long before Google bought it.
      Sorry for rambling but its really pissing me off. My friends are losing their fanbase because people don't want to have to create a Google+ account and don't want to deal with their sloppy website. Its understandable why people want to remain anonymous on the website. If your boss had your gmail account, for work or something, and its associated with RUclips your boss can see all the comments you post and all the videos you liked. Is that really something you'd want?

    Having played the witcher 2 I found it to have superior combat to your typical hack and slash. Its mechanics and how enemies usually deliver high damage encourage smart and practical tactics rather than just the typical "Run up to the enemy and keep hacking away till they drop and use a high heath/damage resistance as your main defense" tactics that can be present in some hack and slash and other combat oriented games.

    I adored this game. The combat was fluid, the constant inkling of danger and the riveting storyline were overwhelming, making every moment exotic and impressionable. It gave you choices that no other RPG would, infusing your personal morality into every choice you made in the game, not telling you which was right or wrong, the shortcoming of games like Fable or Mass Effect. It was an experience I had to relive a second time, with two separate story lines, Iorveth and Roche both, completely contrasting in both story and outcome. I'm surprised Joe didn't give this a 10/10, despite its shortcomings in alchemy and magic. It was a shining example of what all RPGs should be, and dayum gurl I can't even tell you how excited for The Witcher 3 I am :3

    I expected Witcher 3 to be a great 9/10, just behind game of the year candidate's Arkham Knight and Bloodborne. Truth be told, I thought Bloodborne was one of the best games I'd played in years - my first 10/10 experience since Skyrim or Arkham Knight - yet the Witcher 3 makes Bloodborne mediocre in comparison. It's unfair to compare the two, very different beasts and every gamer should be looking to own both but still. Never expected a game to make Skyrim feel so small and lacking in every area. Bloodborne blew me away, Witcher threw me out the window... if Arkham Knight can continue this trend I'll have one memorable gaming year.

      Carolina NolesFan you'll be going 'wuh' when some events happen. theyll probably expect you to know, like with the second in chapter 1 they introduce zoltan and dandelion just like that with no warning and if you didn't play the first then you would have no idea wtf was going on.

      I have plenty of time to play the first 2 before the 3rd releases, so it's okay.

    Nilfgardian ghost asylum quest is one of my favourite side quests ever, loved that it had a sinister ending.

      ***** If I read correctly a looong ass time ago, an infographic about the Witcher series said that the European, Japanese (or Asian not sure) and American versions would be published by different people. Bandai is publishing the European version.
      This is what I read over a year ago so I dunno if it still stands.

    Seeing the review 5 years later made me want to replay the game once again.... God damn I had forgotten how much of a masterpiece it was , dialogue and storywise. Even after finishing the third one, I missed the political and dark themes of this one. It's worth replaying just for the différent paths

    Man I loved this game. I heard so many good things about it that it practically made me build my PC, and I was not disappointed. It still holds up even after playing the glorious Witcher 3.

    The game may not hold your hand, but all you need is a gold marker, to guide you to your quest which it does. And thank God because if they didn't put a quest marker we all would be lost. But I still say Skyrim is slightly better then Witcher 2.

    We very like Gothic(1 and 2 part). Witcher is a game made kinda like Gothic(no tutorial, hard combat, dark storytelling). Also we so proud of this game that our president gave order to CD Project RED.

      Indeed, it does represent the style and attitude of Old Europe, that grim, dark realism you so rarely get these days.

    The Enhanced Edition on Steam says there's a tutorial now:
    "A new, extensive tutorial system - allows gamers to be gradually and smoothly immersed in the game world and Geralt’s adventures."
    Joe, could you please add an annotation?
