If this is exactly background music, to my taste - it would be better to muffle the bright melodic patterns, the obvious and clear rhythm. But this is exclusively my vision. You are probably familiar with the composition Rain World: Downpour, listen to it, some melodies there are completely devoid of obvious rhythm and drums and at the same time they sound quite good.
