    I’m pretty sure some of us have a washing machine we load and ignore, but here we are, on the internet, watching someone’s washer from start to finish (watching the whole thing!) wash a load of laundry and find it utterly satisfying 😂 it is fun to watch, but I am laughing at myself a little.

  • @PlatinumEagleStudios

    Holy crap the rollover is the best I've seen in a top loader. That agitator REALLY gets the laundry going. I also love how you put in a very colorful blanket. Makes it more satisfying to watch. Great video.

    The comments are rather amusing. Some of you saying this is a "small" washer when this was one of the largest top loaders ever made.
    People now have smaller families but want gigantic washers, I guess to just throw it all in one load and forget about it .
    The capacity of this washer would suffice for anyone today. I had one of these but the older style with the lint filter on the agitator. Great washer that cleaned the dirtiest loads.

    • @terrorblossom4829
      @terrorblossom4829 3 года назад +1

      And larger capacity machines of today don’t even clean because the tubs do large so it’s useless

    • @patcola7335
      @patcola7335 3 года назад +1

      @@terrorblossom4829 I think the problem might be that the agitators or wash plates are not proportioned to the size of these cavernous wash baskets. Gigantor tubs with small little paddles or vanes on the supposed "agitators" can't utilize the full capacity.

    Sold them buy the ton back in the late 80's. Very high performance for not a lot of money. Built by MayCor aka Maytag in this era. Also built under the Admiral, Maytag Performa, Norge, of course Magic Chief brands. 3/4 hp drive gave them the 20 pound rating and yes wash action that rivals SQ. build quality but not as robust, but certainly one the better machines of this era!

      They do that ridiculous flow restriction on newer machines because the fill valves aren't powerful enough to close if the inlet pressure was any higher than what the restrictors allow. They just don't make 'em like they used to

      the speed queen of this type is no longer in production either. good luck. go find an old style rebuilt 2 belt Maytag at a refurbished dealer. about $300 and worth it if seals and bearings are new. the older direct drive whirlpools are also a good choice. should have a new tranny as they last about 15 or 20 years. replace tranny and clutch, good for another 20 years at $250

    • @martinbirdwell7986
      @martinbirdwell7986 2 года назад

      With the HE machines you can load them full but lighter( don't pack it) the rollover is different, the clothes are not pulled down into the washbasket like regular agitator machines they are agitated, pushed up the center of the washbasket and out towards the sides of the basket down and back in towards the agitator, clothes are washed like they're being washed with a washboard

      @@martinbirdwell7986 In the timelapse video I took, the top layers pretty much just stayed there, didn't move much. But after I poured in 3 buckets of water I can see it worked much better by "eating" the clothes into the agitator and circulating the whole tub.

    • @martinbirdwell7986
      @martinbirdwell7986 2 года назад

      @@Commander_HW The new machines are weird I work on them that's how I know how they work, if there's too many clothes in it it won't agitate them right because you're not dealing with a machine with an agitator you're dealing with one with an impeller, the agitator pulls the clothes down to the blades where the the clothes are cleaned, the impeller cleans the clothes, pushing them up and out towards the sides and back to where they are cleaned again, the rollover action is reversed between the two machines

    I used to sell those Magic Chef and Norge washers with the 3/4 hp motor. They were incredible and when tested by consumer reports, "outwashed all other washers by far ''. They had reliability like the old Maytags too. Unfortunately, this was too much for the competition so they were taken over by another company and were used as a kicker and turned into just average machines. The pulleys were made plastic and after a while the thrust bearings would melt into them. Transmissions were changed too. Sad.

    I would much rather have this old heavy duty well built machine and do the repairs to bring it back to good working order than pay $$$ for what they sell now - saving water is false economy if you have to replace the machine every two to three years -- or run it twice just to get the clothes wet. We have allowed ourselves to let the govt. and Al Gore guilt us into accepting crap washers that don't do the job right and don't last even five years. When the time came I bought a Speed Queen, its an awesome washer, fast effective, long life and best warranty in the country.

      it's all to do with the way the agitator itself is designed that creates the roll over during the wash. nowadays they have turned to low profile agitators which just tosses the laundry about inside the washer.

      I forgot when Maytag bought Norge, but they kept Norge a separate company, where the machines were different from the Maytag machines. I don't know if the other appliances were different, or made like Maytag. I only know the laundry business had 2 different businesses. I know the Norge portion of the business made Magic Chef, as well as some of Montgomery Ward's washers & dryers (White Consolidated Industries also made washers & dryers for Montgomery Ward). I especially liked the Norge lineup of washers that somehow made it to where every other stroke of the agitator sprayed water out of the top of the agitator, as a way to filter lint out of the water. I always wondered if it ever clogged up from too much lint trying to filter through the agitator. My brother had the Montgomery Ward model of a washer, similar to this.

    • @jimgillion6453
      @jimgillion6453 6 лет назад +1

      originally a norge, but was redesigned at that time by M/C engineers that bought Norge, then bought by Maytag which drove the companies into bankruptcy, which was bought out by Whirlpool which scrapped all maytag production except Jenn-air. replaced the washers with all whirlpool lines. speed queen (also a Maytag brand) was kept as an old school design for a few years, now it's a very high end commercial style electronic control. also made under Alliance brand as commercial. P.S kitchen-aid and Amana are owned by whirlpool, and Hardwick if you can still find it in your area.
