So, if it prints at 2 seconds per layer and 2 seconds in between that would be 4 secs per layer. If the print height is about 130mm then printing at .05mm that's 2600 layers. Would this mean that it prints at a max time of 3 hours?

Interesting printer for sure. I've just received a Mars Pro as my first resin printer. As you mentioned, this would be a great second printer if I don't need as much build volume as Mars Pro.

That's a great question! I'm doing a head to head review of the Mars vs. the Sonic Mini. I'll have this at the end of the week. I'll be doing some print comparisons and microscopic views of the differences! Stay tuned!
Quick question slightly off topic. I see Elegoo now use the .ctb large format file type. Do you know if The Photon File Validator will read this file type soon ?

I am using Elegoo Mars trans resin, could not find any phrozen resin on Amazon UK. Any advice would be appreciated.
Would be nice to have a shot of the inside of the case. My Photon sits unused because my big clumsy hands damaged the mainboard trying to plug in the connector for a screen swap and I just haven't mustered the will to fumble around in there trying to install the replacement board while my (easier to maintain) X1 is chugging away next to it. Is there a clear path to the screen cable connector with space to plug it in, or will this require tweezers and cursing?
Just tip: Do the setup with gloves on. Your fingers are probably not 100% clean. You don't want to contaminate the build platform or any part of the vat or fep screen. Otherwise great video :)
Not with this particular printer and the Phrozen resin. You may have to increase cure times depending on the the resin you use so your mileage may very.
Sorry for the silly question, Im new to the channel and to the 3d printing community What do you do with the resin after you finish your print, do you just simply toss it? How long you leave the prints hanging in the printer before cleaning them? Love the channel and all the useful info! Keep it up 😄
You can filter your leftover resin back into the bottle using the included 'paint filters'. This will make sure all the tiny bits of cured resin are removed and prevents contamination. I have left my prints hanging on the build plate for up to a week or more without issue, however, I like to remove them and get the cleaned up! :)
So monochrome is the reason for the faster cure times? Sounds like we can buy a new LCD and put it on a better printer right? I know this machine gets good results, but I don't like its mechanicals much. Having to unscrew the vat completely and then lift it off; the rough mechanical design of the build plate and the necessarily more-complex clean-up; the short z-height. They should have just mated the monochrome LCD with an Elegoo Mars-style printer and then sold them like hotcakes.
Great little printer, just to be clear, my understanding is that it takes the same time to print multiple as it does a single, say a ring for instance! is this correct?
Yes, unlike a conventional FDM printer, multiples on these types of printers (DLP) take the same amount of time to print as a single. The time is based on the number of layers. So the total time to print is based on the number of layers in the tallest model. Whenever I print anything, I always make sure to fill up the whole build plate with other things that I'll need as well, or copies of the same thing.
Hello Colin; It is partially the resin that decreases cure time, but the speed of the print is determined by the height, (Z axis). The shorter the Z axis, the shorter the print time. Less layers, less time. You can have multiple objects on the build platform, and they will ALL print at the same time. If any object is taller than the others, that object will determine the time needed to print.
Why did no one else think of using a monochrome screen? I mean it doesn't matter for the print if its color or not and a monochrome screen should just be cheaper anyway? This should be Industry standard from now on..IMO.
I would like a Phrozen monochrome with a large build volume to support my FDM printers. Small detailed and accurate parts are sometimes difficult to print so this unit might be the way forward. Phrozen how about a 300mm X 300mm X 500mm volume build? It would sell like candy!
Look into EPAX machines. They're coming out with a couple of larger format devices that will have option or colour or monochrome screens. X133 and X156 will have option of higher resolution colour screen or lower resolution monochrome. Lower resolution in comparison to a smaller device but still pretty detailed
How do you get 80mm/hr on this? I feel like this inst even possible or its at like 200 micron layers. 2 sec per layer but the total layer times for proper dwell are 10 to 11 seconds total. That is 16mm an hour @ 50 microns. Even if it were half this total time your looking at 32mm/hr. I bought this for speed have I been fooled?
Just found these specs for the 'sonic mini': Build Volume: 120 x 68 x 170 mm Z-Layer Resolution: 10-micron XY Resolution: 62-microns all3dp.com/1/phrozen-sonic-review-3d-printer-specs/ Not bad, many models could well be suitable with such specs, though of course most people are now used to 45-microns being the norm.
Although it's minor, I think its print speed comes at the cost of printed part quality...but could anyone tell? Still, I'll put this printer on my short list. Thank-you for the review.
Yep.. When Phrozen sent this to me for review, they advised me of the $200 price which initially was through their website in Taiwan. That $200 did not include shipping. At the time, I did not have the Amazon price, but it appears they have added a bit for shipping. Sorry for the confusion.

I wounder how long it takes for someone to just make a cheap resin printer with a of the shelf 28" panel or something like that with a 4k panel. They really cost very little today. The way the LED is set out here, scaling would be pretty cheap. Then adding sort of a extension system to make the builds higher and higher really should not be that hard.
Looks cool but I saw the Elegoo Mars go for about 200$ on Sale and it's much better than this even if it's slower. The pro has 2 rails, Air filters, Bigger Screen etc.
Hamekun Where did you get your Mars? If you got it on Amazon, you should be able to return it for free. This printer looks enticing, but I’ll hold on to my Mars (I just got it). These are cheap enough to almost consider “disposable”.
Hi! I was wondering how well the printer filters out the smell of resin, as i am looking into buying a resin 3d printer, but it will be in my home office where I do a vast majority of my work, and I don't want to become sick from the fumes. Thanks!
Honestly, this machine out of all of my resin printers is the least 'smelliest'. Of course, a lot of that has to do with the resin you are using. Anycubic resin tends to be more stinky than others. Elegoo resin is my 'go to' for less stinky. The Phrozen resin is also very mild.
Too bad it's not just $200. By the time you add one bottle of Resin the price shoots up to near $300 to be shipped to Miami. Not paying $50-75 for shipping. I'll order the ElgooMars for the same exact price, it isn't any cheaper after they add shipping fees.
I hear ya. Amazon is slowly getting them back in stock which will help with price of shipping from overseas. Good luck! The Mars is a great printer as well! Welcome to the hobby!
Nifty little machine! Looks like a breakthrough for on demand small parts (aka. minis) manufacturing! And the price is more than affordable also. Almost looks too good to be true though. There simply MUST be some downsides to this!
800 Hours on Elegoo mars? They say you are lucky if you get 500 Hours, I got maybe 300 out of mine before I had spots all over. I'm confused on how this does 2s layer time and is only %30 faster than other printers that do 8s Layer time.

You didn't put time for each mini how long did it take to print?
Just got mine, I don't hear a fan kick on. Is there no fan?
Looking to buy but I see no where for 200 bucks? Amazon has them for 229
Yep.. When Phrozen sent this to me for review, they advised me of the $200 price which initially was through their website in Taiwan. That $200 did not include shipping. At the time, I did not have the Amazon price, but it appears they have added a bit for shipping. Sorry for the confusion.
So we can use advanced engineering resins such as Formlabs Rigid and Durable?

I know this is really new to the market but how does it rate in terms of noise and odor to the Elegoo Mars Pro?
I wounder how long it takes for someone to just make a cheap resin printer with a of the shelf 28" panel or something like that with a 4k panel. They really cost very little today.
The way the LED is set out here, scaling would be pretty cheap.
Then adding sort of a extension system to make the builds higher and higher really should not be that hard.
Looks cool but I saw the Elegoo Mars go for about 200$ on Sale and it's much better than this even if it's slower. The pro has 2 rails, Air filters, Bigger Screen etc.
Does it have any filter? I'd want a printer I can use indoors. Sounds an awesome machine :)
Unless you have great suction ventilation to attach resin indoors is a bad idea.
How much time did it take to print the rings? Thanks!
Held off on the Elegoo Mars. This looks like the printer for me once it releases.
I envy you! I just got my Mars like a week ago and feel like I should've waited thanks to this. xD
Hamekun Where did you get your Mars? If you got it on Amazon, you should be able to return it for free. This printer looks enticing, but I’ll hold on to my Mars (I just got it). These are cheap enough to almost consider “disposable”.
How much will replacement screens cost, compared with RGB?
My guess is it will be over $100 initially, but for a 2,000 life span, it would be worth it to me.
@@3DPrintFarm The fact that each print is quicker..... means you will get 4-5 times the work out of each screen.
Most printers can be made faster by reducing the lift distance as long as your resin is low viscosity.
Liking it but you didn't give other specs, like build volume. It looks like it will be close to a Mars but to me the screen looks slightly bigger.
Same width, more depth less height.
Has anyone printed any functional parts?
Just bought one
Too bad it's not just $200. By the time you add one bottle of Resin the price shoots up to near $300 to be shipped to Miami. Not paying $50-75 for shipping. I'll order the ElgooMars for the same exact price, it isn't any cheaper after they add shipping fees.
I hear ya. Amazon is slowly getting them back in stock which will help with price of shipping from overseas. Good luck! The Mars is a great printer as well! Welcome to the hobby!
Can i use formlabs resin to this printer
Nifty little machine! Looks like a breakthrough for on demand small parts (aka. minis) manufacturing! And the price is more than affordable also.
Almost looks too good to be true though. There simply MUST be some downsides to this!
More side-by-side testing (Mars, Photon) coming up next!
How much would it coast to print
Where can I get patterns?
800 Hours on Elegoo mars? They say you are lucky if you get 500 Hours, I got maybe 300 out of mine before I had spots all over. I'm confused on how this does 2s layer time and is only %30 faster than other printers that do 8s Layer time.
Is this available now on their site?
Not yet. My guess is within the next 30 days. Can't wait! This is a great printer!
Can you replace an elegoo screen with one of these ones?
Uhhhhh.....you can't see through liquid resin anyway, clear tray or not
Q: where can I get the file of that Batman so I can print it ?
im buying one friday
Awesome!
