Question regarding AES256: In many Chinese radios the IV (initialization vector) for AES encrypted traffic is not randomized, but a fixed value. Does the new TYT md-uv390 Plus new hardware encryption for AES256 use a fixed or randomized initialization vector?
So I was able to take my MD-UV390G, non "Plus' and program it with CPS 2.34 and add the AES256 keys. I have been unable to test it to ensure the AES is working property but a standard non-encrypted DMR radio is unable to decrypt the signal. You also talked about how you got the various encryptions, Basic/Enhanced, worked with Motorola radios. I have been unable to make that work. Would you be able to elaborate on that for radio fleets that are combined TYT and Motorola?
After a little more testing I am not sure it is working properly. I ordered one of these new "Plus" radios to take a closer look and see how things are working or are not working.
The TYT MD-UV390 Plus operates on VHF at up to 10 watts. More info on the capabilities of this unit can be found on bottom of the product page: www.buytwowayradios.com/tyt-md-uv390-plus.html
Mine only puts out 5w even though the label on the radio says 10w. I bought mine from AliExpress, Motorola Walkie Talkie Store, so maybe buy from these guys and if it doesn't transmit the wattage advertised or at least something higher than 5w then you probably have better support options available. Maybe mine came with a 5w codeplug due to factory error or seller error or maybe it's a fake labeled 10W, who knows. I might try the OpenGD77 software, they now have support for the 10 watt plus version so maybe it'll unlock that 10 watts. 🤷♂️
@@arie1293 Not sure what the reference to "5w codeplug" means? I am under the impression that a "codeplug' is a curated collection of channels, and within that collection, each channel member can have the power set to a predefined level. A user creates or edits their own codeplug using a compatible CPS. Did you perhaps mean that the version of the CPS the seller provided does not support setting a power level for any of the channels past 5W. Also I'm wondering about the reference to, " it'll unlock that 10 watts". Does the radio come stock with the firmware locked to 5W and it requires the 10W option to be unlocked, or did you mean that you hoped to find a CPS product that supports the 10W capability of the 10W model?
@MountainParameters I'm not sure now what I saw that gave me the impression of the 5 watts limit in the codeplug. Perhaps it only showed high and low for power in the CPS. I have since put opengd77 on it and I'm able to get 7-8 watts measured on some of my programmed channels so maybe it's 10w? The weird thing is that on the opengd77 forum the 10w version had some hardware changes that required changes in the opengd firmware in order for the screen to work. My screen is blank when I load the 10w opengd firmware but works when I loaded the 5 watt. Additionally I had found a posting of the stock uv390 firmware which included a file for 5w and one for 10w and I also had to use the 5w stock firmware to get a working screen. I'm pretty happy with it though. The receiver seems more sensitive than any of my sub $50 chinese radios (quansheng, baofeng, tidradio brands) and with less background static in the received audio.
@@arie1293 THanks, that is good info to know. I will have to look into opengd77. I have used the free software EditCP (available from Github) for a number of years on the MD-UV390 5W versions because it has more features then the OEM CPS, but I assume it would also be problematic with the 10W version. It only has 'High, Medium, and Low" power settings, but I suppose you could always contact the developer Dale Farnsworth to see about any planned updates to support 10W.
Can you flash OpenGD77 firmware on it? Is the GPS sensitivity improved over the older models? i.e., does it work inside, does it still require a cold GPS start every time radio turns on.
Exceptionally great video from us here in Nigeria!!, Can you help clarify….what exactly does the encryption do in this radio? Does it encrypt only the settings or does it also encrypt voice communication?
The TYT MD-9600 Plus mobile radio supports AES-256 encryption and should be exactly what you’re looking for: www.buytwowayradios.com/tytera-md-9600.html
When scanning a group of analog channels in a particular zone, if a DMR talkgroup in another zone becomes active, the radio switches to the DMR talkgroup and stops scanning to analog channel group. How can this be prevented?
If you don't know that P-25 and DMR are two different digital modes, then you probably shouldn't be using radios at all. DMR is DMR, not P-25, not Fusion, not NXDN. Stay away from radios.
my tyt uv390 plus didnt last 5 weeks. 30 day return window ran out, not im playing the waiting game hoping it makes it back from china. if not, im out of $115
I have a question. I'm currently using the TYT MD UV 380 as running the open GD77 firmware. My question is, with the 390 plus can I program the radio from the front.? I mean right out of the box?
To get 256 encryption, I had to press Shift, Control, P in that order (Control, Shift, P refused to work).

Is there a usb-c battery for this?
Wish it had a multipin connector to keep the ip67 rating with accessories plugged in.
How do you Factory Reset by hand with the TYT MD UV390

is the AES256 on the MD-UV390 PLUS compatible with the Anytone 878 series with their AES256?
Yes
If the 10W version lacks the GPS does that mean you can't use the satellite feature of OpenGD77?
可以手动设置时间和经纬度,我认为这是更方便的,因为gps实在是太慢了。
How do I get the frequencies?
So honestly do you think this would make a good first dmr before I decide if it’s for me and jump to the anytone?

Al these radios ( MD-UV380/390/RT3S,DM-1701/RT84,MD-9600/RT90 ) only have a single receiver and can only receive one frequency at the same time.
