  • We will restore this old phone. This is a Bell phone model 2712 B-RB of the 30s.
It is made of metal and bakelite. The body part, which is made of metal, is quite rusty and the earpiece, which is made of Bakelite, is fine but dull.
The rotary marker does not work either. How to fix or repair the rotary or wheel dial of an old telephone
We start by opening it to see the state of its interior.
We remove the bells and clean the interior dirt with a brush and a vacuum cleaner.
The wheel marker does not work well, it does not return to its starting place when we operate it. We try a little oil to see if we can unlock it.
We see that it is not possible, it is probably the spring spring. We will try to disassemble it until accessing it by lubricating it with oil at each step. Although we anticipate that it looks bad, since we have informed ourselves that this spring is factory calibrated.
To recalibrate once removed or changed, we would need a specific tool that we obviously do not have. Knowing that it is not going to work well what we are going to do is disassemble it to show you how the cutting-edge technology of the 30s was.
We get access to the spring and it has a split piece.
We take advantage of the fact that it is disassembled to grease well, clean the numbers and put the spring back in its place, even if not calibrated.
Now let's clean the rust. Given the large amount it has, first we pass it with vinegar applied with a brush and then with an aluminum scourer. We try to protect the paint from the model code. Then with a metal brush. Then apply lubricating oil with an aluminum scourer and dry with a cloth.
Finally we sand the surface with a very fine sandpaper to the water to give it a coat of paint.
We protect areas that should not be painted.
We paint with a spray paint of the same color. When the paint is practically dry we apply sponge wax and polish it with a cloth. We repeat the process until it is well. Although in some areas some paint is gone, nothing happens, because it gives the feeling of old.
Now let's clean and shine the headset. We disassemble the internal mechanisms and clean them with a cloth. To shine the bakelite we must apply toothpaste and rub with another cloth strongly until it shines.
    We reassemble everything.
    And this is the result.
    Thank you!

Hola!
