    Thanks Dave for answering my question and showing the process for separating the braid from the center conductor. It definitely is much harder to do with the bigger cables! 73!

    I find using a metal scriber or seal pick to pull the centre out much easier.

    I have done this many times and, as VK4GEO wrote, I use straight and curved picks as tools. They allow making a hole in the braid with less risk of breaking strands in the shield and make it easy to get the center conductors started through the braid hole.
