My childhood where have you gone???? If yugioh was more like this i would still be playing and this game would still be good as it was back then. It had the best simplicity back then and that's what made it amazing. Today's yugioh lost it's heart of what it use to be.
This was the good old days to me. Still love playing some old fashioned yugioh. Even have a yugi character deck that mainly focus on getting Dark Paladin on the board. Which wasn’t out at the time when this format came about but it’s basically same concept
YugiNoNo, yugiyesyes, maybe maybe, perhaps perhaps, on occasion on occasion, I've commented on other videos you've made regarding the format, and how appreciative I am of them since this format and these videos in particular allowed me to share YGO with my gf and my friends that wanted to get back to playing. I come now with a deck profile for something I created I'm just calling Neo Dragons for the time being. NEO DRAGONS: 40 cards total Monsters: 16 total Curse of Dragon x3 Lord of D. x2 La Jinn, the Mystical Genie of the Lamp x3 Wall of Illusion x3 Man-Eater Bug x2 The Wicked Worm Beast x1 (AKA the Wicked WIN Beast) Gyakutenno Megami x2 (Yeah) Spells: 18 total The Power 5 The Flute of Summoning Dragon x2 Soul Exchange x3 Last Will x3 Fissure x3 Swords of Revealing Light x2 Traps: 6 total Waboku x3 Trap Hole x3 If YugiJesus himself or anyone else that reads this comment have any thoughts, questions or suggestions, feel free. Thanks.
An interesting tidbit of information about historical 2002 Yugi-Kaiba Format is, that the european version was quite different. The starter Decks both contained 4 cards less and LOB had a couple more cards missing. Starter deck Yugi: -Beaver Warrior -Mammoth Graveyard -Neo the magic Swordsman (!) -Man Eating Treasure Chest (!) Starter Deck Kaiba: -Hitotsu-Me Giant -Ookazy (!) -Pale Beast -Hane-Hane (!) Legend of Blue-Eyes: -Hitotsu-Me Giant (again) -Flame Swordsman -Mammoth Graveyard (again) Trial of Nightmare- -Fusionist -Petit Angel -Mystical Sheep #2 -Masaki the legendary swordsman -Kurama -Power of Kaishin -Mountain -Hinotama (!) -Beaver Warrior (Again) -Karbonala Warrior -Larvas -M-Warrior #1 -M-Warrior #2 -Frenzied Panda -Dragonness the wicked knight -One Eyed Shield Dragon -Sand Stone -Hane Hane (!) (Again) -Pot of greed (!!!) While many of the cards missing aren't necessarily great, however, there are some meta definign cards among them. Not having Pot of Greed takes away a potent staple, Neo as one of the relativley few 1700 aTK Monsters will be missed, and the Treasure chest as another 1600 ATK fiend will also be felt by the players. Hinotama, Ookazy and Hane Hane being unavailable takes interesting choices out of the format as well. I'm pretty sure Europe was worse off due to these losses. AFAIK most of those cards got shoved into by then Spell ruler and an english LOB Reprint with the entire set made it to europe in 2004.
One other neat interaction in this format- if a Wall of Illuson is left on the field, you can attack it with a Man-Eater Bug or Trap Master to bounce them to your hand for re-use.
One thing I've learned recently is that Lord of D. had an original errata that said Dragons are not affected at all by Spells, Traps and Monster Effects which is mind blowing to me. Idk how this errata is/was treated in the format thanks to Upper Deck forgetting how to write in English on half of the cards printed.
As far as I'm aware in Yugi/Kaiba they use the immunity effect before it got the targeting errata. It's a similar situation to what happened with Wizards of the Coast giving it's ruling on Neo Genesis Slowking in Pokemon due to it's different card text giving it a massive buff which led to it being inevitably banned back then.
@@fawfulmark2 I've seen both pre and post errata'd effects be used depending on the play group. If it is the pre-errata effect than my Neo Dragon Deck just become so much better lol! I would love to get a definitive answer on what Lord of D.'s ruling was at the time
Ok, I built a deck I don't think anyone uses. I call it Curse of Dragon Beat down. Combo is to play last will, then tribute a monster for C-Dragon, then use Last wills effect to summon out Lord of D. which protects C-Dragon from card effects like Raigeki and Dark hole (see previous errata for Lord of D.). It also runs 2 soul exchange to get it on field and tribute your opponents monsters in the process. Here's the deck list: Curse of Dragonx3 La Jinnx3 Ox x3 Neox3 Wall of Illusionx3 Bugx3 Lord of D.x2 Power 5 spells Swordsx2 Fissurex3 Soul Exchangex2 Last Willx2 Trap Holex3 Wabokux3 Tell me what you think.
Kayenng Thao Rule 1: Play 2 of each big Dragon Ruler and 3 of each Baby dragon ruler, and play 3 Super Rejuvination with Big Eyes and Dracossack in the Extra Deck. And Monster Reborn. Done.
I’d say even when MRD MRL PSV came out by end of 2002 already the game had obtained spicy status where there were alort of generic fun strategies that one could play . End of 2003 with the advent of LOD LON DCR made that the peak of yugioh back then imo. Once IOC came out we had broken plays that you could only pull off if you had the money
Wouldn't Last Will be even stronger with the old card text? That way you can use it in MP1 and then summon something during your battle phase to get more attacks, or just to have safety net for when you opponent has a Flip Monster
It's a magic card which was then renamed to a spell card that allows you to draw not one, not three, but two Yu-Gi-Oh playing cards and add them to your own hand
You have to activate pot of greed on your main phase if you use it manually. When activated, it targets the player that activated Pot of Greed. The targeted player must then pick up the top 2 cards of the deck, confirm it is indeed 2 cards to the opponent, and add it to hand, which is a term called “drawing” in card games. This effect can be negated by all spell card negation and can be stopped by card effects that specifically stops players from using effects that perform the effect of “draw”ing. This is the simplest explanation for Pot of Greed ever.
Is it worth it/good strategy to play slightly more than 40 cards in this format? That way you will have an advantage over 40 card players if the duel goes on for a while since they will run out of cards before you do. It's not like you need only 40 since it's a very slow format. I was thinking 43 cards since that way I will always be ahead even if I go first and use pot of greed.
People greatly exaggerate how hard it is to understand Yu-Gi-Oh... it's really easy with a bit of practice (obviously never just read the rules without playing a game or 2)
I think the most underrated format is August 2003 "hand control". It is my favorite though. Like this comment if you think Yuginono should do a video on this one.
Weird how Summoned Skull and Change of Heart seem to have come out as commons in the Starter Deck before being Ultra Rares at Metal Raiders.... Then again, so did Stardust back in the day coming out in the tin before it did in its set (or at the same time if you keep into account the tin's copies of the set being the only existing 1st Edition ones of it, but still).... Hmmm.
Someone that goes to my LGS said that older decks could have 80 cards in them and a 7 card hand size. Older in the sense of around this time frame I believe. I was playing around this time and I remember there being no such ruling.
You say it lasted from those times? What's with YGO formats not lasting very long at all? If it's based around cards released then I don't feel it should be called "format". It's more like it is the meta that changed, not some kind of "format". Some kind of weird feeling shows up when I see their short time periods of being a used "format". I guess that would be questioning whether or not the format is at all relevant anymore at that point.
Pretty sure it's very easy to make a deck back then when the game had like 30-40 usable cards and the rest were pack fillers Making a deck today requires a giant brain because of the sheer amount of cards, people find new tricks and strategies every week
Somebody else actually plays 2003?! I play it about once a week with my friends. I actually started playing Yugioh in September of 2003, and revisisted about a year ago. PLEASE DO A 2003 video!
I really don't know where you researched, but that is not how we played back then. using three of everything in the deck didn't come out until later in the game. the only card people used at three back then were blue-eyes.
I ran Cannon Soldier-Last will burn during the may 2002 format as last will's first version was not once per turn so every time you tribute for cannon you get to Special summon for last will. shity errate's
I did say the may 2002 format which cannon soldier was legal in as he came out in MR the second set. This format is the LOB format referred to as Yugi/kaiba format.
And with no monsters left on the field i summon dark magician
Joe bobington gg
activate trap hole... response?
mylittleghirahim I chain mst
Me: Judge!!! my opponent is a zodiac duelist and thinks mst negates
Judge: but it does...
Me: =slashes wrists=
mylittleghirahim MST has never negated in the history of ygo no matter the. format
i sacrifice my Enraged Battle ox and 5 dollars to summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon
Screw the rules I have money.
That comment had me crying and dying!
I can actually hear Kaiba saying it. XD
Yu-Gi-No, this line is from the video yu-gi-no
💀
I wish modern yugioh had a bit more of this format regarding 1 for 1 trading, managing resources, correct use of trap cards. Oh how I miss this 😭😭
Wow its rare I see a format that predates me
thats not nice
Dawson Vanorsdale Boo-fucking-hoo. Maybe MCG shouldn't be such a POS.
+Legendary Niwatori lmaoooo fucking savage
really? how old are you?
try hard alert

love this. You should do 2004 chaos next man. The format before the first ban-list.
Seto Kaiba Injection Fairy Lily OP
CCC Cookie Cutter Chaos. Very versatile. Too play Torrential or not too play Torrential.
there was technically a ban list before the OG ban list, but it only limited the cards to 1 or 2 and didn't ban cards outright
This was the good old days to me. Still love playing some old fashioned yugioh. Even have a yugi character deck that mainly focus on getting Dark Paladin on the board. Which wasn’t out at the time when this format came about but it’s basically same concept
Love this format, it is basically the only format that my little brother ever wants to play.
It might be my favorite format to play.
5:13 before he learned about The Wicked Win Beast being the best.
YugiNoNo, yugiyesyes, maybe maybe, perhaps perhaps, on occasion on occasion,

The true goat format
ahhh...the good old days....
One other neat interaction in this format- if a Wall of Illuson is left on the field, you can attack it with a Man-Eater Bug or Trap Master to bounce them to your hand for re-use.
Very true! Forgot about that when I was recording.
Which is *exactly* why you probably SHOULDN'T be playing a 3-1 defense ratio, but 2 Wall-2 Soldier/Elf.
YugiNoNo is it legal to use reprints or do they have to be from the original set?
If we activate waboku beforehand, we would not even got damage from it.. ✨

your going to get big with this type of style brother
u should definitely record some duels of these Past formats
classic intro to YK 😎
I loved this format. I was a kid and it was closer to the cartoon.
thank you for adding the holo tips, its very important to me
ive been holong my six sams since 2012 and its one of the main reasons i still play
Yeah I loved playing during this format. Had a few friends also that liked this game at the time so there was no shortage of opponents.
You are amazing and you have my support yuginono
Wow, I had no idea the goat format (although not mentioned much no hate) and the yugi-kaiba one was that meta-defining at its time. The more you know
Anyone remember when the rulebook recommended Pot of Greed and Hane-Hane?
another great format video hope to see loads more videos like this
I'm waiting for you go over dragon ruler format.
Kayenng Thao Rule 1: Play 2 of each big Dragon Ruler and 3 of each Baby dragon ruler, and play 3 Super Rejuvination with Big Eyes and Dracossack in the Extra Deck. And Monster Reborn. Done.
Rule 2: Throw some other shit in there until you have 40 cards. You'll draw into your dragons anyway so it doesn't matter.
Nerdy George Washington rule 3 play spellbooks instead
I love this. I remember when these first came out :) I played blue eyes back then. Now i play a more modern blue eyes deck lol
Then everything changed when the IOC attacked...
Love these vids! Talk about nostalgia for the old game..
I remember the text for Waboku being different too. It used to reduce effect damage to 0
Am I allowed to summon Dark Magician without tributes?
no the tribute rule existed since then
Juan David Diaz Buitrago You didn't get the reference, did ya?
Shane Hall only if there are no monsters on the field
you cant activate such a strong spell card dude
Don't worry, MST will negate it.
These format videos are absolutely fantastic
The title and the video is fucking dope
Wouldn't Last Will be even stronger with the old card text?
That way you can use it in MP1 and then summon something during your battle phase to get more attacks, or just to have safety net for when you opponent has a Flip Monster
i just realised link summoning completely ruined ultimaya zolkin
*claps slowly*
Not anymore I guess 🤷🏼♂️
Love this. Do Yata-Lock 2004 format
Divine_Wrath you mean chaos format? some folks still have PTSD from those days.
+Ullinn Of The South Honestly, one of my favorite formats. I gave my opponent's alot disabilities after pecking them to death with Yata.
You Sir are a sadist
I see your Yata-Lock and raise you one Gearfried and Dagger Elma infinite card draw loop OTK.
You should do HAT format. It's a diverse format that favors deck building and set 5 pass.
He doesn't need to do a HAT video because it's such a recent format; most people here played it or at least know about it.
Adam Chan, I got a real giggle and a hoot out of that, thanks!
What is HAT? it is 2012 or what?
I really love these videos YugiNoNo! Hope you keep up the good work.
Fissure is one of my favorite cards tbh.
awesome! reminds me of the feeling of battling my mates during high school. gosh! heart pounding battle phase and wont otk your foe and thats the fun!
I love the old formats
Damn. So glad it changed. Kaiba’s deck was just so much better.
smokescreening seems so easy in this format. I bet side decks consistently made a much bigger difference!
more format history! best when he explains it
A fun video however I don't miss beat down decks at all especially in those days where Summoned Skull was considered better than Dark Magician
04 chaos format next! yata lock degeneracy wooooo
Damm... now i feel old! xD!!
Ahh!, the good old days! n_n
Back in my day summoned skull was meta
I never knew first release 2002 Yu-Gi-Oh! could be considered a format. I feel so much better for keeping my cards all this time.
I'm not new to the game. what does pot of greed do?
It's a magic card which was then renamed to a spell card that allows you to draw not one, not three, but two Yu-Gi-Oh playing cards and add them to your own hand
I think @simplyunlucky will be able to explain this card's effect in complete depth better than anyone else. it's much more complicated than we think.
I know that I'm late to say anything, but just watch the show. They tell you how pot of greed works in every episode
That depends on if you activated it from your hand, Graveyard, Deck, or your opponent's Graveyard.
Now this is how I know the game.
This looks like a blast
I would love to play this
Would love to see a kaiba vs yugi duel. I played the kaiba deck back in that format.
Is there somewhere a comprehensive list of formats or something. would be pretty interesting.
Dark magician: B-but I'm Yugi's ace monster!
Looks a lot like the decks running around in duel links lol
I remember those days fondly
you need to make one for 2018 format
Rules: whoever wins the coin toss wins the match.
Omg, I just got a retro Yu-Gi-Oh! Tim from a car boot sale and now I have most of these cards
This was my introduction.
I dunno about easier, I taught my younger cousin how to play (using the new dinosaurs) and he picked up every summon pretty fast after just two games.
People greatly exaggerate how hard it is to understand Yu-Gi-Oh... it's really easy with a bit of practice (obviously never just read the rules without playing a game or 2)
Oh man how I miss these days...yes.....
Konami Can Simply Do another kind of tournament which can be named The Old School tournament
No xyz no pen no link no synchros no new things
Ahhh good times😊😊😊
Cavemen Yugioh
I was the first upon this land
Marthboy nice lol
I think the most underrated format is August 2003 "hand control". It is my favorite though.
Like this comment if you think Yuginono should do a video on this one.
Sorry. JULY 2003!!
Back to School of Duel episode 1
Was the Dark duel stories game out before the starter decks? So couldn't you use acid trap hole salamandra and saiyaru?
Yeah right, I can find raigeki in my common box.
how to play telledad format. draw your opening hand if you're playing dad then you win if not you roll a dice. if it lands on a number you loose
Nice, I once got out a couple blue eyes with flute.
you'r perfect ^.^
Weird how Summoned Skull and Change of Heart seem to have come out as commons in the Starter Deck before being Ultra Rares at Metal Raiders.... Then again, so did Stardust back in the day coming out in the tin before it did in its set (or at the same time if you keep into account the tin's copies of the set being the only existing 1st Edition ones of it, but still).... 4:36 «Waboku. Get rekt scrub.»
Someone that goes to my LGS said that older decks could have 80 cards in them and a 7 card hand size. Older in the sense of around this time frame I believe. I was playing around this time and I remember there being no such ruling.
Originally there was no upper limit for Deck Size, but Hand size has always been capped at 6.

5:45 you mean his defense
The best and most fun format in the game !
Modern YuGiOh! sucks...
This was the funnest time of yugioh! Like for example at this time you needed to use your brains and skill to win and build a deck.
Lmao keep telling yourself that. This format is very simple. I like nostalgia as well but overestimating is dishonest.
Pretty sure it's very easy to make a deck back then when the game had like 30-40 usable cards and the rest were pack fillers
Making a deck today requires a giant brain because of the sheer amount of cards, people find new tricks and strategies every week
irl, this format is too expensive if you want the original text
I tribute la jinn to tribute summon summoned skull
Now, you could follow a chronological order of the formats introduction. Please?
hey can you do a video on the legal issues with yugioh my is very interested in it and there are no videos on RUclips
it was probably because of Magic The Gathering, another big tcg, not wanting them to be called magic cards
Ah memories.
Do a Dinorabbit Format. It was a rather interesting format for me.
I miss this format...
Bring a goat deck to a tournament
Alright, the game might be bigger now than before, but 2003 was the golden age. Plz do an intro/decks video.
P.S: why is there 2 others who are posting about 2003 at the same time????
S
JULY 2003 banlist
How about a Zane(Cyber Dragons)-Aster(Destiny Heros) ? I am curious
Please try Yuginono if you can't just say so in my comment or in a video
so can u play this format today (2017)
Lol back then they weren't even Structure Decks, they were Starters and had shit like Witch Doll
Talking about vanilla ygo, what do u think about Ygo duel links.
I ran Cannon Soldier-Last will burn during the may 2002 format as last will's first version was not once per turn so every time you tribute for cannon you get to Special summon for last will. shity errate's
cannon solider I don't think is legal this format
I did say the may 2002 format which cannon soldier was legal in as he came out in MR the second set. This format is the LOB format referred to as Yugi/kaiba format.
