Some people knew that the Messiah was supposed to be born in Bethlehem so they didn't believe in Jesus because they thought He was born in Nazareth. They just didn't know that he really was born in Bethlehem but moved to Nazareth to fulfill prophecy (Matthew 2:23).

I had a personal encounter with God, but revelation in my living room, that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, and that God was real and loved me. I encountered the Prince of peace right there by way of the Holy Spirit, with hardly any bible reading and almost no church attendance. I thought that everyone had to have an encounter as well in order to draw close to God. Is this true that you have to have a personal experience with God? I don’t see how I could have ever pursued God if this never happened to me.
