- The 7Artisans 60mm macro lens (f2.8) is such a great proposition! At last, a sharp, epic, affordable macro lens for micro four thirds and APS-C cameras.

Oh I've so been waiting for this EXACT review!
Looks great, wanting to get my wife a macro lens. Thanks for the preview/review.
I have been a pro for 50 years. I find you refreshing, sweet, and love your reviews.
Brilliant video,,,and congrats on getting an early review on this..The great thing I appreciate about your excellent channel (aside from all the real world examples you give us) is that you have all the relevant lenses at hand to make the comparisons with. I was tempted by a bargain price on a used 30mm Olympus...it looks to be good quality,,,but when I was shooting APSC Sony gear..I had the 30MM SAM macro (45mm equivalent FF),,and it was just too short of a focal length to be useful as a macro,,,My 100mm 2.8 Minolta was always a favorite in the film days--so the 60mm in M4/3 should be just the right length...Thanks for the detailed comparison...
Brilliant tutorial on the 7Artisans lens thank you! I've been enjoying macro photography with extension tubes lately and would like to improve within a good night out budget, soon I hope!
Again thank you and kind regards Ian.
Fantastic review. Really enjoyed it 👍😊
How have I only just found your channel?! loved the review dude, really looking forward to more :)
Thanks for the review, I just ordered one for my Fuji xt3.
Great video as always!! I think we as micro four third users are blessed with so many awesome options, also in macro photography. Thanks a lot for all your valuable information and honest opinion :-)
Just love your pleasant happy personality. Great review too. Thnx
With macro, manual focusing is a big plus! Sounds intriguing. I'll keep an eye on this one …
Those were amazing shots! I don't do macro but this made me wanna try it. Geat review.
Thank you! Its great fun! I feel like I'm slowly but surely getting a bit better at it the more I try. The key is light light and more light haha
Loved the sample shots at the end :)
Thank you 😁
Thank you for this very helpful video and believe the 7 Artisans 60mm is the way to go thank you!
Great review. I've got the Mark II coming in. Love your accent.
Very good review. Thank you.
Will definitely be getting the Fujifilm version.
Great review. Thanks
Use the side control to go to 1:1 on the Oly first, then switch to manual focus. MF does require a lot of ring twisting, but on the other hand you do get very precise adjustment. The 7Artisans looks nice if it's pretty much only for close macro work.
Thanks for a good info about the lens. I will give it a try :)
excellent review! subscribed.
PS excellent review. You're very knowledgeable. Subscribed.
Hi. Thanks for the review. What is this like as not macro. Could I put it in my bag in place of my standard 60mm?
Thank you for the video! I really like the lense too, Im using a sony alpha 6600 and yeah, its really pretty sharp and nice to use. Peace!
the photos are really impressive! i wonder is it works as great on a fuji X. great video.
I'm wondering the same thing. I'm 99% sure it will - they use basically the same parts and switch the mount.
Very nice video .. thanks for that..! Do you know what kind of filter can get for 7Artisans 60mm f2.8 Macro for protection...? Diameter maybe...? thanks again
The Oly 60mm has a range limiter switch to cut down focusing time. For one to one simply hit the switch then focus by moving slightly backwards and forewards when handheld or simply autofocus and then fine tune manually. There is no need to wind it in from infinity for macro work.
Indeed. It was more a demonstration of the difference between manual focus lenses and fly by wire.
But fantastic tip to speed up focusing for anyone that has the olympus 😊
Am going to buy a flash ring right a way lol cool video
Sweet..x
Interesting, will you do an update when get the product model?
Thanks for your time.
Definitely 😊 I'm looking forward to seeing the pricing etc hopefully it will be all announced soon
After all these months are you still using the 7Artisans? And, secondly, do you focus stack with either lens?
Great review. Looks like a winner. Just one thing to keep in mind....because its fully manual, focus bracketing and stacking will not be possible in camera which is a usefull feature on the mft bodies. But you could of course do that manually on the 7artisans.
Still looks like a great lens. Thanks for this!
Very good tip, thank you 😁
Focus stacking with auto focus is the main reason I would consider a native macro MFT lens. With a manual-focus lens, you would likely disturb the framing when changing focus. Also, with a ~60mm macro lens, depth of field can be really shallow; I shoot macro with a vintage (late 60's) micro-Nikkor 55mm f3.5 lens plus extension tubes I've owned for 20 years; if you really stop it down (this lens goes down to f32) I end up imaging the tiny spots on my image sensor, which appear as blemishes on a white flower. Otherwise, manual focus macro photography is fun.
how about video performans? i thinking manuel focus for video not good. what your opinion?
Would make a good film negative digitising lens.
Possibly my birthday pressie lol
Have you used the Panasonic 45mm macro lens?
is this 7Artisans 60mm fits olympus emd10 mk3? or how to fit it to the camera?
Brilliant review I was about to drop £399 on the olympus but changed my mind I think
Thanks for your review.
Still there’s little information, so yours is very helpful.
Could you tell me of the exact weight of it? You’re saying it’s pretty heavy, though.
Over 500g :D
Rokinon also makes a 100MM MFT lens that i havent seen too many people review yet
Is this lens better than the 30 m.m macro lens by lumix?
great!
Have you tried it in portraits in the end?
hi Emily. i am about to purchase this 7artisans 60mm macro lens. it's about 200 dollars. i also found a pana leica 45mm and it costs me around 400 dollars in second hand. it looks very clean. what do you think about these 2 options? is it worth to pay double price? by the way, i am using a g85.
Any dates yet you know about the artisans?
This lenses work for an a7III?
Have you used this budget lens for professional work?
Ooh this might be an option! I am assuming post focus won't work with this lens though?
Unfortunately not, but you can always manually take a selection of different focused photos and stack them in photoshop if needed
Hi, great review. I've an olympus epl 3 micro 4/3 camera wanting to digitise negative film photography. Will the 7Artisans 60mm f2.8 macro lens work with my Olympus camera? Thanks in advance.
It will indeed just make sure you buy the m4/3 Mount 😊
For true macro I use my Oly 60mm in manual. For close ups of flowers I find it easier to use auto focus. I like having the flexibility to choose. But the Artisans looks great, especially if the price is right.
Great video, I'm kind of new to the micro four thirds camera, I have a gx8.
can anyone recommend a good wide angle and zoom lens as I'm going away on holiday soon and would like to have one of each on me.
Thanks everyone
PANASONIC 12-60 mm f/3,5-5,6
How bout laowa 60mm vs the 7artisan 60mm? both for macro.... noone has done the comparison yet....
You mention that because of the focusing difficulties of macro photography so who needs autofocus.
In traditional macro-photography (the way ot was done before we had all the electronics in our cameras) I understand exactly where you are coming from, but when you are talking about things like focus stacking, this sounds to be something that would be extremely precarious to try and do without some sort of electronic focusing.
Hello dear ...I purchased a vintage Konica hexanon 50mm f1.4 open the package hook my adapter to my g7 this lens was extra blurry on any apature....I contacted seller asap he claim I must of broke it....I have 11 vintage lenses alllll works fine .any thoughts on that???
What a pain! I can't know for sure but the quality of vintage glass can vary a lot, so you may have bought a bad copy. Some times it's hard to tell, especially if the seller hasn't used it on a modern camera before
thank you for the review. it was very helpful. One small suggestion.....if you received the lens for free (compensation) or were asked to do a review by the company (you implied that at the beginning)...then please make that clear in a very straightforward and open way.
Absolutely. I usually make it very clear. I think I got a bit excitable at the beginning of this one! I was given this lens for free in exchange for an honest review
@@MicroFourNerds I've been a fan of your channel for years. Thanks for putting out such inspiring and informative content.
Do you know when the lens will be released in Europe?
I'm hoping in a matter of weeks!
Wow, best guess on what it will be listed at?
A few sites have reported the price to be around $200 so hopefully there 😊
Not sure if I missed it but is there any indication on pricing?
Around $200 it is rumoured but it may change. If it is around that price I think it's a steal!
for a budget macro on m43 would this (7Artisans 60mm f2.8 Macro) or Meike 85mm f2.8 Macro be a better choice?
I personally preferred the 7artisans, as it was very similar to the Olympus 60mm and also a smaller lens, but you can get great results from either!
@@MicroFourNerds thank you for you reply , the price for both 60mm and 85mm are pretty close in my area. I will go with 7s's 60mm!
Hi, how did I see your video of 7Artisans 60mm f2.8 Macro Lens Review // Vs Olympus 60mm, where did you get it ?, I hope you can help me, I'm from Mexico. a greeting
Hi! I got a copy of the lens before release for review but it should hopefully be released worldwide very soon
OVERVIEW (from retailer)
7Artisans 60mm F2.8 macro lens contains 8 elements in 7 groups. The floating system on the front glass can guarantee the excellent image quality at infinity and 1:1 macro condition. Even the macro scene is really small, you can also use a extension accessory to get a 2:1 to 3:1 macro image.
Lens Format: Lens Format: APS-C
Fixed Mirrorless FL: Focal Length: 60mm
Maximum Aperture: Maximum Aperture: f/2.8
Lens Type: Standard Lens
The 3:1 "extension" device is interesting - an extension tube?
wait what? The 60 mm Oly has this small dial that you can use to instantly ride the focus to the NFD. How can you own that lens and never wondered what this small on the left side does? :D
Lol I know it's there! I was just demonstrating the difference between fly by wire and manual haha clearly not well 😂 sorry 🙈
@@MicroFourNerds No worries. I also hate focus by wire. That's why I actually love the Olympus lenses with the focus clutch (and all lenses with a genuine focus ring). Unfortunately the Oly lenses are not compatible with our Panasonic's DFD tech. Well, I guess there are some downfalls everywhere. Nice comparison though :)
can this lens shoot great portraits?? :D
Imo there needs to be more interesting MFT Macro lenses out there
Since "Micro Four Third is dead" (lol) and since I already have a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 lens...why would I want this lens?
Probably because by being able to shoot 64mp RAW files you'll probably be blowing even 42.2mp Sonys away!
can i use this lens on my a7iii?
At the moment I believe it is just for micro four thirds and aps-c cameras so possibly not unfortunately
In AliExpress is for sony and other mounts
So if you can only have one, what one would you keep?
Good question! Possibly the olympus, just because it is smaller and I already own it. I think it would be a bit more versatile for portraits with the auto focus.
But if I didn't already have it, I have to say this 7artisans lens seems like a great, more affordable option. We really are spoiled for choice sometimes with m43!
@@MicroFourNerds I can't find a price for it, what are they estimating?
I think for what its worth, the Olympus can be had for under $400 used pretty easily, not an expensive lens in the grand scheme of it.
@@chrisklugh half that 😆
@@MicroFourNerds Well, for $200 more dollars, you get a smaller lens with AF. I'd say thats the better buy for most. For just $200, I think I would go cheaper and play with extension tubes. In any case, its nice to see more options out there.
Please tell me we get this in europe at the same time
It should be available on amazon globally when it is released 😊
It should be available on amazon globally when it is released 😊
Nice review. Your photos are perfectly sharp but please take care of your video focus because that needs improvement…..
Agree with 3rd party lenses can be sharp with nice bokeh. But the Olympus 60mm is also packaged with dust and splash proof. The AF will be extremely useful when u shoot something moving. And when dealing with OM-D E-M5ii and above, AF can be used after magnification.
That's purely my personal choice sharing my experience with macro photography.
Thanks for you update anyway.
wow...
The singular of dice is die
Whats the price ?
It hasn't been officially announced yet but rumour has it around $200, which is significantly cheaper than the olympus 60mm 😊
@@MicroFourNerds awesome will definitely get that then 👍🤩 good review 👍
@@MicroFourNerds would this lens or the 30mm panasonic able to do timelapse as well as portraits?
No autofocus is a big con. I hold light in another hand.
You are good girl
Oly 60 mm is so terrible in manaul.
Nice review. Subscribe!
Creamy bokeh blur
Spraying everything is a great way to make unrealistic macro shots. Huge cliche and way overdone.
Well I like it haha each to their own of course!
