- MAN GIVES UP EVERYTHING
In 2015, aged 47 an English businessman gave up everything and travelled Asia to find true happiness. Now a Buddhist Monk, living a simple life in Thailand, India and Sri Lanka, he shares the continuing story.

Hopefully i worded that correctly, if not i welcome the correction so that i may learn more from you. You already opened the door with Sukhi Hontu. Googled it and i think its Thai, so i wished to say greetings back.
What i was intending to say
May all beings be free from mental suffering
May all beings be free from physical suffering
May all beings be free from enimity and danger
Have a good day today.
I'm a devout Christian whose been very influenced by buddhism. This was really interesting on the precepts and methodologies behind it. Thanks for the video. Makes me happy to see the love you have for that cat.

Thanks Phra Dan, you are looking well. I've noticed on weekends the comment section becomes more reactive as opposed to weekdays. Just an observation 🙏

Thanks so much for your talks/satsangs . I received this quote and if you have time please do expand on its meaning . "Attachment is blinding, it lends an imaginary halo of attractiveness to the object of desire" 🎉🎉🎉

Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu Bhante! I have a strong calling towards practicing the Dhamma and meditation and one day may indeed ordain into the Theravada tradition.
Although one of my main struggles throughout life has been substance dependence and abuse, particularly smoking lots of weed, self medicating.
I am newly sober now, and have been struggling with intense cravings and mental health issues now, particularly depression and anger.
My Questions: Do you have any past experience with getting clean and sober off of substances, particularly quitting marijuana? If so, what helped you do that?
Do you have any advice for me or anyone else in this position who is newly sober, but one day really wants to embrace the Dhamma monastically?
Lastly, do you know of any Buddhist teachings/practices that could help me stay sober and rediscover more mental and emotional balance?
Sorry for such a long winded post/questions, I appreciate any and all feedback you can offer.
Blessings from Boston! Sukhi Hontu!
I am by no means an expert in Buddhism, but I can tell from the way you are self-reflecting that you are on a good path to finding peace and purpose. You're asking good questions, my friend. I wish you all the best on your path.

I find myself feeling shame whenever I choose to do something that I find very pleasurable, (youtube, video games, chocolate, etc.) due to the knowledge that the desire is the cause of my suffering, and through giving it power, I am only setting myself up for suffering in the future when I cannot have it. How should I deal with this slippery slope and at what point is it reasonable to stop giving up the things that give me pleasure in order to get rid of my attachment?
Don't think about it as suffering, think about it as impermanence.

Even if there is more than One heaven, One hell and One God. Every feeling, every thought, every idea, every belief and experience can be compartmentalized and labeled in it's own space or room, but every compartmentalized room still exists within One space. Everything exists within One space, where everything is connected.
Everywhere and everything all leads to One. Everything (God) is One and One is everything.
So there is only One god, which is everything. And all "other" gods are One as well, existing within One. One within One. But One nonetheless.
Duality is created by One, within One. Like one single-celled organism dividing.

Hi! I'm interested in your opinion about Anapanasati. Do we aim to get some state of absorption? Than it seems that thinking interferes with it. Knowing whether breaths are long or short stimulates some thinking activity. I feel like I dont want to think when I meditate. Or is it the practice where we keep in mind 2 things at the same time? Breath and this, breath and that etc (about further steps). Second Tetrad - experiencing and calming down mental formations- is it about thoughts? Third tetrad about mind - how to practice it, should it come by itself, or we do some effort (thinking intention) ? Is it experiencing spaciousness and qualities of the mind (something where thoughts and phenomena appear and disappear?) Thanks.
You're over thinking it, just breath. Sukhi hotu.
@@Cole_Loristril just breath - then why there are 16 steps. It's not just breath I suppose
@@Cole_Loristril in Mahayana they do just breathing and letting go of everything that arises in the mind. But they dont call its anapanasati - just samatha

@@дава-щ5ж i suppose i over simplified it but for the most part you focus on the object if you're think about jhana and not the object you won't get to it. if your fallowing the breath then deeper states of samadi will come naturally at least that's how i understand it. Bhante's answer will likely be helpful it is a good question. Some practice of renunciation could help as well because the jhana are the state of mind of the form realm and less sense indulgence would help incline your mind towards that state.
Have been religious for 10 years. Sought for the truth in all major religions but came to the understanding they are all just fabricated.
Hope your satisfied with your life.
