  • I am finally finishing a project my Oma started over 20 years ago! I got this yarn 15 years ago when I was first learning how to crochet from my Oma. But who know how long ago she started these squares!

This is so amazing! My grandma knit and crocheted and I have a lot of her stuff because my mom never learned. She was in the middle of making a baby sweater for me when she got sick and never finished it. 34 years later, I plan on finishing it when I get pregnant. It almost feels like it was meant to be us finishing a project "together."

I was watching this thinking how it's a beautiful big hug from your Oma and how I'm sure she would love that you did this. My grannie died last year and I would have loved to be able to do something like this so instead I'm going to be cutting her clothes and making a memory blanket

The color scheme is very "80's preppy mom." Well done! My granny left me a bunch of yarn, and I love the pieces I made with that yarn. It's a great way to stay connected to her memory.

Its so lovely to be able to put your Oma's squares to good use. It loks beautiful. Every time you wear it youll be reminded of her and it will feel extra cozy and comforting.

When I started crocheting last year, I felt a weird connection to my great grandmas. I never met them so it felt like I met them through this shared craft.
I get a similar warmth from this project. 😊

I love this so much. Being able to Incorporate your Oma's work into your own, is just priceless. I was very close to my grandmother, and I miss her so much to this day. I treasure everything I have that was hers. The colors look really pretty on you as well. Happy Fall!!! ❤

I inherited all of my Oma’s crochet hooks and knitting needles. I treasure them! My background is Dutch and we say Oma and Opa too. I believe that they also do in Sweden.

Oh but it's so cute Michelle, and your Oma would have been so happy and proud of what you've done with her square-tangles 😉☺. That cardigan makes me think of winter ❄, once again you did a wonderful job putting this cardigan together 💙🤍

Add some really cool buttons. They'll bring an extra vibe to the project. Don't forget to sew in the ends.
It's a really cool project, I guess your granny ( Oma) was planning to crochet a blanket.

When I’m trying to figure out if I have enough yarn to make additional of something I already made - like squares for a patchwork - I’ll weigh the already made piece using a cheap kitchen scale and then weigh the yarn I have available. If the yarn weighs more it will probably work (depending on gauge obviously). It gives me a really good basis for whether something has a chance of having enough yarn.

When you started talking about the arms being wrong, in my head I was like "nooooooo Michelle, don't do it to yourself" cause I have to undo stuff all the time and it can be very upsetting ha. But if you gotta change it, you gotta change it. Otherwise you won't wear it. As we have learned, many times.

This came out amazing!!! I wish I had some of my grandma's unfinished work to incorporate into my own. I know it was a labor of love but really amazing to have her quite literally stitched into the final piece. I'm sure she would be so proud! 💗

First of all…I LOVE that you are doing this.
Secondly, if you weight the square on a kitchen scale you’ll see approximately how many grams of yarn it takes. Then you can weight your scraps to see if there’s enough for a square.
I use my scale all the time to see if I have enough yarn for another row of an Afghan, for instance.
