Good for him to own up to his mistakes and be a man about it.
or a woman
MrHotSizzle12 what was the point in that
I knew this comment was going to get reply... lol. Saw an opportunity to be PC and I took it. lol... I knew what he meant! :) :)
The chargers didn’t support him though. That why Eli Manning didn’t go to the San Diego.
It's gotta be hard. Not only knowing that you're gonna go down as the biggest bust in NFL History, but also the guy who went right before you had the exact opposite experience. Good on him for bettering himself and doing his part to help athletes today not make the same mistakes.
KMC one of. I don't see how Jamarcus Russel doesn't get that title. I agree with you, good on Ryan for speaking out
Russel had more career wins, and put up better numbers. Leaf was lazy, and also a huge jackass. He got into it with players, fans, and sportswriters. Russell seemed to be just 100% lazy. Russell tried to make a comeback a couple years ago, ESPN did a little documentary on it. Russell lost a lot of weight and was working with Jeff Garcia and others, but it was too late. And like a year or two ago, he said he play for free if he got another shot. At this point, he'd be a 10 year veteran. Nobody's gonna take a 10 year veteran that's been out of the league for 7 years. I do feel for the guys that turn out to be busts. Because this was their dream, and they end up not only failing, but failing in front of millions and millions and millions of people.
i give this man so much respect
Duje Dujeduje I dont bum😁
more to life than football buddy he's a better person for being a "bum"
Shout out to Ryan Leaf for having the balls to come on national TV and talk about this...gotta be so hard knowing that you may be the biggest disappointment in NFL history.
D Stud damn 😂😂
Damn straight D stud😂👍
D Stud Jamarcus Russell is first
The Keeper Russell was drafted into a horrible team .... leaf was stated into a decent team .... leaf is the worst Russell is second
NO Russell was the worse!
It takes guts to show up on ESPN and explain where you failed.I have a lot of respect for Ryan Leaf, a simple and humble man.
I actually have respect for this dude now...I admire ppl who come out and own up to their mistakes...that takes a real man to do that
It's dope that this guy is able to come back and speak on the difficulties he face that costed him his career and be given a national platform to do so, I would hope other black players alike would be able to get that same platform and speak about what hurt them.
agreed
Rashan Lynn why tf can't u leave skin color out of of it? Black ppl are so obsessed with color holy shit
@@spynine0 agreed
@@spynine0 and it's only gotten worse
Yes it has to be racism because Michael Vick and Lawrence Taylor just to name a couple never told their stories on the national stage 🤦♂️...oh wait. They did get that opportunity many times!!
Get dufuq outa here!
Antonio Brown never put his story out there? Just stop with the racism in everything BS.
This is how I prove to people im a real fan of the chargers, I was a fan those 4 Years of Ryan Leaf and the chargers, and still after. Seems like he's heading in the right direction. GG
I have been a charger and redskins fan most of my life living on the east.
Max was honestly picking, Ryan was honest, blunt and respectful, it's not like he was trying to make excuses so I don't know why Max was so aggressive, sometimes I wish they would find a new co-host, I get tired of boxing analogies and old ass rap quotes anyway
Seriously....
Leaf at that point had heard far worse than what Kellerman threw at him, to be fair.
With the comparison of NFl draft busts. I prefer Leaf over JaMarcus Russell because JaMarcus Russell seems to still blame the Raider organization for his problems.
Nah Leaf is Partying, Ruined the Chargers Franchise Jamarcus is Just overweight
True but it took Ryan 14 years and a prison sentence to stop blaming others. Give Russell some time.
@@kbob9625 Good point
Now we need Kwame Brown to come on First Take and talk his disappointment in the NBA
Anthony Rose Fuckin right ☝️
Anthony Rose not with SAS still on the show 😂
The Keeper naw SAS gotta be on there that's must see TV
James Young and Anthony Bennett also
Anthony Rose i wanna see the troy smith story
props to Ryan!
Good for Leaf. It's nice to see that he turned his life around. People forget that these are kids when they come into the draft. 20-22 years old, is still a kid. I can't imagine being that age, given millions of dollars, and everybody telling me how great I am. I probably would have been a disaster too.
Kudos to this man for owning his mistakes.
Max was honestly picking, Ryan was honest, blunt and respectful, it's not like he was trying to make excuses so I don't know why Max was so aggressive, sometimes I wish they would find a new co-host, I get tired of boxing analogies anyway
Ryan is a good dude and his brother Jeff is great. Much respect for such a classy guy.
I wish I could see the old Ryan Leaf play with the new Ryan Leaf's head and maturity. It's a shame his career didn't work out, but I'm happy he got his life on track. Kudos to Ryan!
holy shit this dude is so honest and owns up to everything.. I can def. see him becoming a player development coach from a mental perspective. Dude has seen it all and his experience can keep a lot of the young guys coming in on track.
He's in prison again. LMAO
This is the saddest First Take in history; thanks to Ryan Leaf
Big respect to Ryan Leaf ,Happy for him to see his turn around
May God continue to guide Mr. Leaf. I continue to hope that he continues to flourish in his endeavors.
I could see Manziel being in his position in a decade
F JV Manziel wasn’t as talented tbh
Browns could have got Jimmy G
Don’t forget JaMarcus Russell
Difference is manziel never really had the talent to reach NFL level. Leaf had a strong arm and had re ally good talent and probably could have been just as good as Peyton manning had he turned his life around earlier.
This is sad he lost it all but it's great to show younger upcoming players what to do and not to do ..
Seems to have come out the other side of this. I'm glad for him.
I’m so happy to see him make a comeback like this.
As a Raiders fan I Want JaMarcus Russell to come onto First Take and explain himself.
He's started to tell his side of the story now. Check it out if you haven't yet, you might be surprised.
WOW - LEAF had the potential to be a great leader and a great player. He needed a coach/friend/mentor to help show him the ropes when he landed in the NFL.
GLAD TO SEE HE GOT IT TOGETHER 👍 HOPE HE LANDS A GIG ON ONE OF THOSE NFL SHOWS.
Ryan is a nice man. I actually spoke to him when he worked for Transcendent services on the phone. He helped me learn to control my anger
Mad respect
Max bringing the heat.
ferris bautista He's lightweight playing bad cop in this interview.
ferris bautista for real tho. He needed to chill
He's an asshole. You don't kick a man trying to come out and make amends
Max is a douch..Hey Max guess what Brady retired finally great take...
Stop yelling dude
I wish Ryan Leaf all the best! Hope his life is going better now
The way he talking is the same things you hear in aa/na meetings
proud of you, Ryan Leaf.
Alot of respect for Ryan Leaf he made mistakes an he was man enough to admit it some ppl who make mistakes want to make excuses an blame others
Sucks being reminded about your failed career and knowing you can't go back and fix it
You missed the point. His failed career was his career as a human being, not a football player. Failing as a football player was a bi-product. He looked in the mirror, changed himself, and is now on a legitimate road to success. That's the underlying story.
good man for talking out
I just watched that ESPN film... What an incredible story and what an inspiring comeback!!! I love Ryan Leaf!!!
I just saw the e60 story about Ryan Leaf I am glad he is doing better but this is what happens when parents spoil their kids he probably never worked a day in his life growing up and never knew what life was really like until now.
Felt like Max was deliberately trying to trigger Ryan.
Hated him as a player, as a human being rooting like hell for him!
Good Job Ryan Leaf, GOD JOB!
GOOD
Max putting it on this Guy
WaiWai x2 he was dead accurate
hope he gets it together
Max citing a classic Smashing Pumpkins lyric.
Youth is wasted.. [big guitars] ON THE YOUNG
vanilla ice vs ryan leaf..celebrity boxing..I'd buy that for a dollar
Wish the Chargers would go back to that style of the bolts on the shoulders of the unis.
I respect Ryan Leaf for this he had so much potential but he threw his pro career away.
HOW DO YOU...LOSE CONTROL....WHEN YOU HAVE SO MANY....ADVANTAGES AND OPPORTUNITIES!!!!
Henry Ruggs should have watched this video
Chargers fans should thank Ryan. He’s the main reason they got Tomlinson.
JaMarcus Russell lmfao hahahahahahahhaahahhahahahahahahahhahahaha😂
Dak system QB confirmed
Ian Bromley that's been obvious
Ian Bromley kyle orton and kellen moore played in that same system.
So is Tom Brady
+Hollywood Heel So I guess Joe Montana is a system quarterback to right?
Brett Childs in a way technically because Bill Walsh created the West coast offense to make it easier for joe
Kyle Boller, Vince young, Jarmarcus Russell, Sam Bradford, Brady Quinn get ready we need answers 💀😂😂😂
Manning Handled the Presser with a HOF RB and WR. Could he have with a LIONS Offense Minus Barry Sanders?
He’s like a real life Bojack Horseman
Completely irrelevant comment, but his collar isn't doing anything good for his appearance. What kind of collar hides the entire knot?
clip on tie, don't use them however ur comment is trash. Hopefully u aren't but u seem to be. Don't worry I'll take ur trash out
Give me him, and Joey Harrington
Johnny Fooseball set a new low. The league needs full psych evals as a part of the combine.
People love watching people's downfalls ....
Max a real nigga
we all know jamarcus Russell is now the worse NFL draft bust in NFL history
Jonny manzel?
the #1 BUST of all time
All y'all talking about how much you respect him yet he's just been sentence to 5 years in prison LOL
Dem Vicodins tho
Johnny Manziel before Johnny manziel
He’s still more likable than Kellerman
All these people saying good for him for owning up to it yeah right. It only took him 20 fucking years to grow up and admit his fault
Ok it took him that long maybe it shows that he actually truely learned the hard way doesn't make it right but all he can do is do better now
The talent was there, He was Better den Peyton coming out of college tbh...he just couldn't stay sober and was lazy
That is what happens when parents spoil there children he probably never did any type of hard work in his life and never was taught how to have a good work ethic and to be humble.
It is damn disrespectful to say that Peyton Manning is the greatest "regular season" quarterback ever.
Hollywood Heel for real
Eli manning is the greatest playoff quarterback ever. That's the only reason he still has a job.
I remember as a kid being told Ryan leaf was the worst player ever lol
when you actually become a celebrity and a house hold name from becoming the biggest bust of all time
I wanted so much to dislike this guy just because I am shallow and believed all the bad press he got, which was probably accurate at the time. However, I am going through a transitional time in my life right now and find strength in what he says. Also worth watching are the stories of redemption of Brian Bosworth & Troy Mandarich.
I wonder how he would play if he acted like he does now
i know this is old but I have no idea why that idiot kellerman was trying to grill leaf when he had already proven at this point he was changing for the better.
it even looked like it bothered sas at one point haha.
He should speak to Johnny Manziel. Ryan Leaf must have been on suicide watch😬
Yeah. I seen a story post about him. Bully. Karma does work.
I'd take him over Tony romo
Freebreezhoe 113 Damn...😐
like how dude says payton manning is the best REGULAR SEASON QB of all time. What a choke artist in the superbowl and playoffs. man o man
That is a terrible tie
max is annoying with his demeaning questions.
Can't believe the Jamarcus Russell disaster was already a decade ago when he was drafted
:)
Shows/people still give this tool an opportunity to speak and explain himself???
Lol, you going to San Diego was not part of the reason that you were terrible. You're a nice guy and everything but put full blame on yourself and don't put part of it on where you went. You would of been a bust everywhere.
Phillip Rivers lol did you even watch the video, that's exactly what he said.. that he was the problem not where he went
Fearbleeds Watch until the end buddy, he says part of the reason was the team he went to.
Phillip Rivers ahahhahaha are you idiot or what?
Mauro Perzolla well I mean he says it so... lmfao idiots man
Phillip Rivers still more successful than your ass will ever be you're just a bust in life period
