    It's gotta be hard. Not only knowing that you're gonna go down as the biggest bust in NFL History, but also the guy who went right before you had the exact opposite experience. Good on him for bettering himself and doing his part to help athletes today not make the same mistakes.

      Russel had more career wins, and put up better numbers. Leaf was lazy, and also a huge jackass. He got into it with players, fans, and sportswriters. Russell seemed to be just 100% lazy. Russell tried to make a comeback a couple years ago, ESPN did a little documentary on it. Russell lost a lot of weight and was working with Jeff Garcia and others, but it was too late. And like a year or two ago, he said he play for free if he got another shot. At this point, he'd be a 10 year veteran. Nobody's gonna take a 10 year veteran that's been out of the league for 7 years. I do feel for the guys that turn out to be busts. Because this was their dream, and they end up not only failing, but failing in front of millions and millions and millions of people.

    It's dope that this guy is able to come back and speak on the difficulties he face that costed him his career and be given a national platform to do so, I would hope other black players alike would be able to get that same platform and speak about what hurt them.

    With the comparison of NFl draft busts. I prefer Leaf over JaMarcus Russell because JaMarcus Russell seems to still blame the Raider organization for his problems.

    Good for Leaf. It's nice to see that he turned his life around. People forget that these are kids when they come into the draft. 20-22 years old, is still a kid. I can't imagine being that age, given millions of dollars, and everybody telling me how great I am. I probably would have been a disaster too.

    I wish I could see the old Ryan Leaf play with the new Ryan Leaf's head and maturity. It's a shame his career didn't work out, but I'm happy he got his life on track. Kudos to Ryan!

      Difference is manziel never really had the talent to reach NFL level. Leaf had a strong arm and had re ally good talent and probably could have been just as good as Peyton manning had he turned his life around earlier.

      You missed the point. His failed career was his career as a human being, not a football player. Failing as a football player was a bi-product. He looked in the mirror, changed himself, and is now on a legitimate road to success. That's the underlying story.

    I wanted so much to dislike this guy just because I am shallow and believed all the bad press he got, which was probably accurate at the time. However, I am going through a transitional time in my life right now and find strength in what he says. Also worth watching are the stories of redemption of Brian Bosworth & Troy Mandarich.
