An adulterer is making an idol of: the object of their lust, sex itself, self gratification, defying the law all pointing back to violating the first commandment. The sexual drive is stronger than the need for sleep, food etc. We could say that is the master of appetites or passions. The Devil desires that we are enslaved to it, Christ desires that we are fulfilled by it.
I’ve reading so many comments about this issue and to hear this podcast and to be vulnerable enough to share your inner deep struggles brings compassion to my heart. I will be praying for everyone who are suffering from this. I know this isn’t an easy fix when years of time invested watching/lusting at stuff like this can be turned off in one day. Lust is a weakness I have struggled with since I have been a teenager. Even after becoming saved I have been constantly bombarded with temptations that I have succumbed to, slowly progressively becoming worse and worse, even to the point where I learned how to make content that would visually stimulate me. I would feel terrible about it but shortly after do it again, and again. Whenever I tried to resist the desire I could go a few days, weeks, maybe even a month but would come to a point where I literally couldn't think straight or become very irritated, or when I try to focus on other things such as work, studying, reading, ect.. ..I would have a very difficult time focusing until I satisfied the addiction and at times I satisfied it just so I could function normally. I won't go into details but the way I satisfied these addictions were very unclean and unholy. I was a monster for the lack of better words. I came to a point where I knew God was real and I knew I was wrong but I just couldn't stop and couldn't find the strength to, even when reading the word or begging God for help I could literally go and do it anyway. Maybe I was starting to befall my salvation, maybe I stopped caring about being saved - I have a ton of other personal issues (having my jaw ripped apart / no teeth, can barely eat, can't date anyone).. ..well.. ..my 10yo cat died of cancer.. ..he was my baby.. I saved his life as a kitten and he loved me to death. He was among the only physical entities in my life that shared love for me. I was murdered. I held him as they euthanized him and felt him die in my hands. I didn't even know he had cancer until the last day of my time with him. I promised this little feline I would meet him again in the afterlife.. ..I started getting more serious in the word, reading more an more, listening to stories, ect.. ..I have still succumbed to temptation, although alot less than I used to but it still doesn't change the fact that I'm still succumbing even with a gun to my face that I won't beable to go to heaven if I don't stop which means if my baby is waiting for me there, I won't beable to see him. When I try to resist, I can shift my mind and focus on verses and scriptures but my body literally shakes and convulses when I resist, day and night..when trying to sleep I literally lose sleep while trying to control these urges. At day when I do I end up at work with passions that should not be in a workplace..and when I get home tons of ideas are bouncing through my mind tempting me to try them and that .. but I keep remembering my baby and telling it no.. and also reading the word and praying..yet.. sometimes even that isn't enough. I get to the point where it literally drives me mad and it doesn't ever stop even when I resist and I end up caving just so I can think straight again. I don't know what's going to happen to me when this life is over.

Amazing as I sit here reading your thoughts as I see I'm in the same boat as you are, although my angel was a dog, not a cat. I think it helps to know you're not alone in your struggles, even the maddening feeling you get at times. It's really overwhelming....but I'm not about to become a monk and isolate myself from the world around me. Like you I keep fighting the urge and perhaps after listening to this video I might be able to fight off the next one as I'm sure their will be plenty more to come. We're not perfect, only Jesus is, and He resisted far more temptations than we are getting - perhaps that's a good start in our thoughts as we do what we can to try and stay clean as possible. God knows our hearts and our thoughts, it's written that we don't receive so much that we cannot resist, so we have to find ways to resist, until it becomes like second-nature to us. Loved this! There is always something vital enough for us to keep self control. The problem is we all say it’s god but we don’t act like it. We take gods grace for granted. The story of Esau, Hebrews 12:15-17 sits on my mind when ever I have lustful thoughts. Christianity means being at war against evil & never giving into the devils tricks! Here is a good topic to discuss on the lust. How to differentiate between sinful lust and proper sexual desire. A no bs straight forward discussion on what you can and cannot do. Because listening on this topic is frustrating, preachers keep harping on how bad lust is but couldn't really teach how to deal with it in the practical real life scenario. Talking about it philosophically has little use if we do not know what we can actually enjoy.

Hi. I can relate to not having friends to confide in deep and shameful truths of ourselves. I’m struggling myself and I find it hard to talk about it with anyone! What I can say to give you some encouragement is this: We are born with sin. It doesn’t matter what kind of it. Sin is sin in The Lord’s sight. But God looks down at us with compassion even in our sin. He wants us (you and me) to flee from whatever sin(s) we are carrying on our shoulders at the moment. It is why He sent Jesus to cast it all on him so that we may freely repent & live a new life through Jesus! Killing our flesh’s desires is hard/difficult/challenging...etc. But through Christ, we can do all things. You aren’t alone. You can do this. Each day counts. If you need to be held accountable, I am here to help. May The Lord give you strength to toughen this sin out and for you to flee far away from it so that your soul may be counted saved. More than likely nothing wrong with you. I've studied this topic a lot in the past five years. A lot of us our a product of our surroundings. Think of this area of your life, like a dial or gauge. If you're on social media, you have a higher probability of going to porn. If you're on dating apps, you have a higher probability of going to porn. If you watch TV, you have a higher probability of going to porn. Basically what I'm saying is: The more of the world you're putting into your body, the more of the world you'll want (porn included). Try reading colossians 3. I had no idea what it meant to live my life hidden in Christ. Until The Lord reveled to me, what I'm currently doing is a good example - no social media on my phone. So if I want to check social media, I have to check on a computer and be more intentional about it. The more world you put in your body, the more you'll crave. Same with the word. Our bodies reject it, until we start to crave it. and it can be an uphill battle to crave the word. I hope this helps. I can expand a lot on this topic.

I heard a testimony of a teenage boy who had died, and then came back to earth. He was extremely embarrassed because all he had ever done was seen by EVERYONE in heaven, and when he received a second chance, he was determined to improve his life! This cut me to the heart about my own life. Rom 2:16 and Mark 4:22 confirms what that boy said - one day all the hidden things of every heart will be exposed and judged. How will I do when I am tested?
I have been addicted to porn for years. With that said, I respectfully disagree with this. I listen to and agree with many things he says but disagree with this. The issue is, challenging something like lust (which is a release of Dopamine in the brain) and challenging it with another chemical release like (Cortisol or adrenaline) which is often experienced during fear, is not an example of someone who is not addicted. See the release of cortisol or adrenaline is still a response of the flesh. So, it maybe easy, on one occasion, to substitute a fleshly response like dopamine for another fleshly response like cortisol. After all we are still satisfying the flesh regardless if someone decides to watch porn or stop their friend from being murdered in front of them. There still exist a satisfying of the flesh in that moment. The decision to save your friend or watch porn can be base off of what decision seems most urgent to the flesh at that time. And for most, saving your friend would satisfy the fear and anxiety that is urgently rushing through you. That fear may seem more urgent to something like porn which may always be there later.I think ,The question is, if the same situation was presented over and over and over again, month after month, would the addict continue to make to same decision to save his friends life and deny the lust. Just my thoughts but Jesus has the power to break all fleshly desires. God bless us all❤️❤️

Hello @Alvaro. I don't know too much about John Piper. But I'll tell you what I think he meant here. If you're doing all things in Christ, you are in constant worship. Like, you can worship through going to work, mowing the lawn, doing your kids laundry, making love with your wife. Hope this helps

Eg. meeting and chatting with a friend over a cup of coffee is not an act of worship but promoting righteousness at every opportunity is an act of worship. Thanking and praising God (aloud or under your breath) is also an act of worship. Choosing to please God over your friend/spouse is also an act of worship. So whether you eat or drink or enjoy your spouse in sex, do it giving thanks to God who has liberally given us all these things out of His goodness; then this is worship not the act itself.

I don’t know about you but I have failed in this area too many times. Calling sonething a legitimate addiction doesn't mean its not sin. God created the gift if habit, but our brains can be affected by trauma and other things which set up a loss of control. Any addiction can be beaten, but to deny addiction as a human reality iz is reckless.
Pretty sure even a heroin addict would put off their next hit if an ISIS member was threatening their family. Based off this nothing but an autonomic reflex is an addiction. Not sure this is a good metaphor.

If someone was willing to slit my throat, i would do it then just knowing i finally get to leave this soon to be godforsaken body. I've had such feelings of God leaving me as well. But don't trust your feelings. Trust God's Word. We all need to. Maybe you need to get away for a while... to a completely private place where you can be alone with the Lord in prayer. Confess what you have done and ask Him to help you forsake your sin. We're in this together 🤍. I also mess up every day BIGTIME. But seek Him. Leave everything else behind.
Oh and also, God knows what a strong grip temptation has on us. Maybe you being alone with your gf is a trigger such as it would be giving wine to a recovering alcoholic at a seemingly harmless event. Maybe meet up in public spaces where nothing too drastic would happen. God tells us to run from sin. 😭😭😭😭😭 I feel you!! I sturggle with other bondages (gluttony) and I am addicted to sugar. I have tried to cut sugar out of my diet for good, because it is like a drug for me. I even had the whole thing under control for a while, but like it is with alcoholics, just letting loose a little bit got me right back into slavery. I fall into the pit of binging on sugar practically every day now and it's killing me because I hate cheating on God. But Jesus knows what we are going through. Infact, when He is in the garden of Gethsemane, He tells His disciples to pray with Him before He would be crucified. Knowing that they are tired and might fall asleep, He tells them to pray, so that they would not enter into temptation! Also when Jesus is tempted by Satan, He quotes scripture to counteract what Satan tells Him to do. This is how we should fight. I think it is time for both of us to get onto our hands and knees and pray fervently, seeking the scriptures. Heads up, my brother. I'm praying for you!

@@tylere5817 I think the biblical view is that Christians would lose their salvation if they were to fall deep enough into sin without repenting (this is evidenced by several verses in the book of Hebrews, but God in His grace keeps us from falling that far (this is evidenced by Jude 1:24 for example), and He uses those warnings like in the book of Hebrews as a instrument to keep us from falling away.

I think you might be feeling the reality of God’s judgement in his voice, and are thinking he’s trying to scare us away from sex. This isn’t it at all. An adulterer is making an idol of: the object of their lust, sex itself, self gratification, defying the law all pointing back to violating the first commandment. The sexual drive is stronger than the need for sleep, food etc. We could say that is the master of appetites or passions. The Devil desires that we are enslaved to it, Christ desires that we are fulfilled by it.

I know this isn’t an easy fix when years of time invested watching/lusting at stuff like this can be turned off in one day. It takes time and being kind to yourself and discernment.

Lust is a weakness I have struggled with since I have been a teenager. Even after becoming saved I have been constantly bombarded with temptations that I have succumbed to, slowly progressively becoming worse and worse, even to the point where I learned how to make content that would visually stimulate me. I would feel terrible about it but shortly after do it again, and again. Whenever I tried to resist the desire I could go a few days, weeks, maybe even a month but would come to a point where I literally couldn't think straight or become very irritated, or when I try to focus on other things such as work, studying, reading, ect.. ..I would have a very difficult time focusing until I satisfied the addiction and at times I satisfied it just so I could function normally. I won't go into details but the way I satisfied these addictions were very unclean and unholy. I was a monster for the lack of better words. I came to a point where I knew God was real and I knew I was wrong but I just couldn't stop and couldn't find the strength to, even when reading the word or begging God for help I could literally go and do it anyway. Maybe I was starting to befall my salvation, maybe I stopped caring about being saved - I have a ton of other personal issues (having my jaw ripped apart / no teeth, can barely eat, can't date anyone).. ..well.. ..my 10yo cat died of cancer.. ..he was my baby.. I saved his life as a kitten and he loved me to death. He was among the only physical entities in my life that shared love for me. I was murdered. I held him as they euthanized him and felt him die in my hands. I didn't even know he had cancer until the last day of my time with him. I promised this little feline I would meet him again in the afterlife.. ..I started getting more serious in the word, reading more an more, listening to stories, ect.. ..I have still succumbed to temptation, although alot less than I used to but it still doesn't change the fact that I'm still succumbing even with a gun to my face that I won't beable to go to heaven if I don't stop which means if my baby is waiting for me there, I won't beable to see him. When I try to resist, I can shift my mind and focus on verses and scriptures but my body literally shakes and convulses when I resist, day and night..when trying to sleep I literally lose sleep while trying to control these urges. At day when I do I end up at work with passions that should not be in a workplace..and when I get home tons of ideas are bouncing through my mind tempting me to try them and that .. but I keep remembering my baby and telling it no.. and also reading the word and praying..yet.. sometimes even that isn't enough. I get to the point where it literally drives me mad and it doesn't ever stop even when I resist and I end up caving just so I can think straight again.
I don't know what's going to happen to me when this life is over.

Amazing as I sit here reading your thoughts as I see I'm in the same boat as you are, although my angel was a dog, not a cat. I think it helps to know you're not alone in your struggles, even the maddening feeling you get at times. It's really overwhelming....but I'm not about to become a monk and isolate myself from the world around me. Like you I keep fighting the urge and perhaps after listening to this video I might be able to fight off the next one as I'm sure their will be plenty more to come. We're not perfect, only Jesus is, and He resisted far more temptations than we are getting - perhaps that's a good start in our thoughts as we do what we can to try and stay clean as possible. God knows our hearts and our thoughts, it's written that we don't receive so much that we cannot resist, so we have to find ways to resist, until it becomes like second-nature to us. Be strong brother, keep fighting, we can win this.

Loved this! There is always something vital enough for us to keep self control. The problem is we all say it’s god but we don’t act like it. We take gods grace for granted. The story of Esau, Hebrews 12:15-17 sits on my mind when ever I have lustful thoughts. Christianity means being at war against evil & never giving into the devils tricks! Here is a good topic to discuss on the lust. How to differentiate between sinful lust and proper sexual desire. A no bs straight forward discussion on what you can and cannot do. Because listening on this topic is frustrating, preachers keep harping on how bad lust is but couldn't really teach how to deal with it in the practical real life scenario. Talking about it philosophically has little use if we do not know what we can actually enjoy.

I’m struggling myself and I find it hard to talk about it with anyone!
What I can say to give you some encouragement is this: We are born with sin. It doesn’t matter what kind of it. Sin is sin in The Lord’s sight. But God looks down at us with compassion even in our sin. He wants us (you and me) to flee from whatever sin(s) we are carrying on our shoulders at the moment. It is why He sent Jesus to cast it all on him so that we may freely repent & live a new life through Jesus!
Killing our flesh’s desires is hard/difficult/challenging...etc. But through Christ, we can do all things. You aren’t alone. You can do this. Each day counts. If you need to be held accountable, I am here to help.

More than likely nothing wrong with you. I've studied this topic a lot in the past five years. A lot of us our a product of our surroundings. Think of this area of your life, like a dial or gauge. If you're on social media, you have a higher probability of going to porn. If you're on dating apps, you have a higher probability of going to porn. If you watch TV, you have a higher probability of going to porn. Basically what I'm saying is: The more of the world you're putting into your body, the more of the world you'll want (porn included).
Try reading colossians 3. I had no idea what it meant to live my life hidden in Christ. Until The Lord reveled to me, what I'm currently doing is a good example - no social media on my phone. So if I want to check social media, I have to check on a computer and be more intentional about it.
The more world you put in your body, the more you'll crave. Same with the word. Our bodies reject it, until we start to crave it. and it can be an uphill battle to crave the word.

I heard a testimony of a teenage boy who had died, and then came back to earth. He was extremely embarrassed because all he had ever done was seen by EVERYONE in heaven, and when he received a second chance, he was determined to improve his life! This cut me to the heart about my own life. Rom 2:16 and Mark 4:22 confirms what that boy said - one day all the hidden things of every heart will be exposed and judged. How will I do when I am tested?
I have been addicted to porn for years. With that said, I respectfully disagree with this. I listen to and agree with many things he says but disagree with this. The issue is, challenging something like lust (which is a release of Dopamine in the brain) and challenging it with another chemical release like (Cortisol or adrenaline) which is often experienced during fear, is not an example of someone who is not addicted. See the release of cortisol or adrenaline is still a response of the flesh. So, it maybe easy, on one occasion, to substitute a fleshly response like dopamine for another fleshly response like cortisol. After all we are still satisfying the flesh regardless if someone decides to watch porn or stop their friend from being murdered in front of them. There still exist a satisfying of the flesh in that moment. The decision to save your friend or watch porn can be base off of what decision seems most urgent to the flesh at that time. And for most, saving your friend would satisfy the fear and anxiety that is urgently rushing through you. That fear may seem more urgent to something like porn which may always be there later.I think ,The question is, if the same situation was presented over and over and over again, month after month, would the addict continue to make to same decision to save his friends life and deny the lust. Just my thoughts but Jesus has the power to break all fleshly desires. God bless us all❤️❤️

You can worship God while you do all things not through all things you do. Eg. meeting and chatting with a friend over a cup of coffee is not an act of worship but promoting righteousness at every opportunity is an act of worship. Thanking and praising God (aloud or under your breath) is also an act of worship. Choosing to please God over your friend/spouse is also an act of worship. So whether you eat or drink or enjoy your spouse in sex, do it giving thanks to God who has liberally given us all these things out of His goodness; then this is worship not the act itself.

As for strategies to avoid falling into this sin again, I would suggest that you and your girlfriend make a point of no longer being alone together until you get married.
I've had such feelings of God leaving me as well. But don't trust your feelings. Trust God's Word. We all need to. Maybe you need to get away for a while... to a completely private place where you can be alone with the Lord in prayer. Confess what you have done and ask Him to help you forsake your sin. We're in this together 🤍. I also mess up every day BIGTIME. But seek Him. Leave everything else behind.
Oh and also, God knows what a strong grip temptation has on us. Maybe you being alone with your gf is a trigger such as it would be giving wine to a recovering alcoholic at a seemingly harmless event. Maybe meet up in public spaces where nothing too drastic would happen. God tells us to run from sin. So we need to take drastic measures to keep us safe from situations where temptation is easy to give in to. Hope this helped!

Please pray for me my fellow brethren, i want to follow God with all my heart but pornography and masturbation these sin has set it's bondages in me please pray for me so i can be free and put my faith in God alone. Every time i do it i feel so guilty and then i decide to follow God but after some days or weeks i get the same urge that i feel very hard to overcome and i give in i feel like there's a evil spirit of lust that attacks me when I'm at the weakest, I've been struggling to follow God and it's been 2 months since i decided to become a born again Christian. 😭😭😭😭😭 I feel you!! I sturggle with other bondages (gluttony) and I am addicted to sugar. I have tried to cut sugar out of my diet for good, because it is like a drug for me. I even had the whole thing under control for a while, but like it is with alcoholics, just letting loose a little bit got me right back into slavery. I fall into the pit of binging on sugar practically every day now and it's killing me because I hate cheating on God.
But Jesus knows what we are going through. Infact, when He is in the garden of Gethsemane, He tells His disciples to pray with Him before He would be crucified. Knowing that they are tired and might fall asleep, He tells them to pray, so that they would not enter into temptation!
Also when Jesus is tempted by Satan, He quotes scripture to counteract what Satan tells Him to do. This is how we should fight. I think it is time for both of us to get onto our hands and knees and pray fervently, seeking the scriptures.

@@tylere5817 I think the biblical view is that Christians would lose their salvation if they were to fall deep enough into sin without repenting (this is evidenced by several verses in the book of Hebrews, but God in His grace keeps us from falling that far (this is evidenced by Jude 1:24 for example), and He uses those warnings like in the book of Hebrews as a instrument to keep us from falling away.
No coincidence Pastor John Piper is named "Piper". What he has to say, is good and helpful, but his delivery can much do without the drama and his excibit of passion! The yelling is not helpful, in fact I find it very deterring to such a serious subject. I think one would benefit more from the stoic version and ask him to control his passion and drama, so those in need can truly benefit from what he is saying.

I think you might be feeling the reality of God’s judgement in his voice, and are thinking he’s trying to scare us away from sex. This isn’t it at all. He’s trying to give us the realization of our sexual sin, giving multiple examples, voice tones, etc. that will hit different people the way they need it.

Hey Vincent, I understand where your coming from, before I follow Christ I had the same mindset about sin, but after going through a break up I realize how bad I have been being in sinful relationship, and suffering from depression while in the relationship and after it, I was believing the lies of the enemy by not realizing how much sin was affecting me, but Jesus in his goodness convicted me and delivered me. Jesus calls us to repent, and to accept him as our Lord and savior, we all need Him because we all have sin. I pray that you seek and find the Truth in Jesus name, He loves you and to have a relationship with him is what will set you free from sin.

Your claims about porn are biased and incorrect. Plenty of research has shown porn to be harmless. As far as addictions go; it's possible to get addicted to just about anything, so saying "it's addictive" is pretty meaningless.
