Great explanation. I just got my IC-7300 and was frustrated that it didn't have audio. I appreciate the explanation. It saved me calling Tech Support only to find out it was "operator error."
Tom, had no audio xmit on my IC705. Didn't check what you had suggested until I watched your UTube and YES, made a change and the audio is working fine. Tnx, Tom KT4XN
Just wanna thank you for all the great content, I have a 7100 that having recently leveled up to my general have been trying out different data modes, and doing what I can with my cell phone not a computer. Your ham radio a to z videos over the 7100 I would consider a must watch for anyone who gets one of those radios. there is so much more information than I could even remember watching those videos and they are way more explanatory than even reading the manual; either one for that matter. This is another one of those very important things to know about these radios to be able to use them to their fullest extent, and I for one would not be able to figure it out on my own.
I have been away from the hobby for about 7 years and got my ICOM 705 a few weeks ago...as I was playing around with its capabilities - SSB, digital, etc. I probably changed so very settings you describe so when I tried to final transmit on HF, nothing. Then I tried UHF simplex and nothing and I knew I had an issue just not sure what it was.... so I reset to factory settings and it worked!. I am now smarter about the preset for FT8 and the digital modes so I know to switch it back t normal mode to do phone. But for 24 hours I was calling on HF and nothing was going out! ha, great videos! But it is something to remember to do if you were out doing POTA switching from phone to digital, to take the time to make sure your preset is back to normal...
Good explanation of how the menus are setup and how to make the right selection. Helps when you look at it and go "Dam how did I miss that?" Always good content Tom!
I may still have to send my 7300 to the shop. Followed your instructions and I still have no transmit. A Factory Reset had no change. I then reinstalled my settings and nothing. Thank you for your videos de KD4MAN 73s
Hi Tom, Thank you for the outstanding IC7300 series, it has proved invaluable. Today I encountered a transmit issue relating to whether I was in Fix or Center setting. In Fix it would not transmit but it would in Center. Comments, pls. Than you so much. Ted
Hi Ted. That's a new one on me. The Center and Fix settings only affect the scope display and have nothing to do with transmit. So I don't any way that would make the radio not transmit. If you are in Center mode, you will see your transmit signal on the display (depending on the settings) and in Fixed mode, the scope will just freeze when you're transmitting. When the scope freezes, you are still transmitting. Have you confirmed with an external power meter or during a scheduled contact with someone that you are definitely not transmitting?
@@HamRadioA2Z Thanks so much for your reply. I will check it out using your recommendations and let you know. As I toggled between Fix and Center my transmit capability was on and off accordingly. As an afterthought, would my use of a head set/mic combo with a foot switch be a possible source of this situation? Thanks again! Ted K7TDV
Hi John. Thanks for the kind words. It is not a separate piece of software, exactly. That is just a cropped video of the radio screen from a separate camera that I layered in with my video editing software.
I had that very problem on my 7300. It turns out that an RF choke inside the microphone circuit inside the radio had blown (The choke was not on the ground side, but in series) Apparently caused by a current traveling through the microphone circuitry!?
Sounds like yours was one of the rare cases where there actually was a hardware problem. So far, for everyone that I’ve helped directly with this, it has been an issue with one of the settings or the mode.
I am trying to use wstjx for ft8. The program comes up and seems to work fine, except. When I double click on a staion the radio, ic7300, goes into transmit mode but there is no output. Additionally I have no audio from my laptop which is on the same usb. Can you help? Thanks.
Do you have the radio in USB-D mode and do you have the Data ON mode modulation input set to USB? The default is to get audio from the accessory connector. You’ll find this in the SET - Connectors menu
This was exactly what i needed except I have a old 746 pro, i am a extra class, but i have never been on a HF radio except at field day events. I bought my first hf rig off ebay and i have no idea if it even works, i bought an antenna i got a power supply it powers up , but i can not figure out anything from there... if anyone knows of a video that may help i would be so very much appreciative.

Glad you figured it out. I can't tell you how many times I have factory reset my 705, just so I know I'm starting from a known starting point.
This is great. Exactly what I needed. My 705 had DATA OFF MOD set to WLAN. Fixed in 20 seconds thanks to you! 73's M7LEB
