They say not to take the trees down. It's their sourse of food sources. They will keep to the one tree until its completely sourced out of food. They then will make their home in the dead trees as well.

The woodpecker is eating the bugs in the tree. This means your tree is diseased, and the woodpecker is having a great meal.

Agreed, diseased or dying. Had a few at my brothers and the trees sadly had to come down. While the woodpecker is beautiful they sure do some damage and the tree may eventually become unstable and break. Great eye for catching that! Good luck!!

That's your man Jami ..... Dr. Google had this to say: When woodpeckers put all their focus on a single tree and begin aggressively feeding from it, this usually indicates illness in the tree or bug infestation problem. It sure is nice to see the pond so full - hopefully it's sealed itself and will stay that way. So good to see Jami without her mask and smiling - she is one incredibly strong woman.

It may still take several years for a woodpecker's attention to open a tree to enough damage to kill it. The smallest woodpeckers may even extend a tree's life by ridding it of pests, without great damage.

I just wanted to say I am happy to see Jami is starting to be a little more comfortable being on camera without her mask for short periods. She looks amazing and just as beautiful as always. From what I have heard about woodpeckers in my years, they peck holes to get to the bugs. They don't kill a tree, but the holes they peck can allow more pests into the tree and can possibly harm the tree, it is rare to actually have to remove a tree because of a woodpecker.

Jami, I'm a stroke survivor from Easter Sunday April 8, 2008, myself. I understand the self consciousness you are feeling. I've been in Your shoes. I took my years of therapy, physical and mental, to accept my self. My husband and children accepted me all along. It took my mom telling me God did this (my stroke) for a reason. And I love you young lady i have since you were conceived. Now, you have to love yourself.

I am so sorry you lost your Mom. I lost both my Mom and Dad. It’s still hard for me to accept they are just memories for me now. I understand both yours and Jami’s feelings of being self conscious. I was in a pretty bad accident when I was 16. It left some visible scars in my face. I was so vulnerable with how I looked. I was lucky in a way because I had a fractured scull, a brain injury and many broken bones, including my jaw, just like Jami, so having to face anyone other but my immediate family at first, wasn’t an issue for me. Facing life outside the hospital was really hard on my 16 yr old psyche. I think we are all our worse enemies, as I think now looking back, I probably felt like an ugly freak more than any of my friends thought I was, lol. Many, many years have passed and I’m over any bad feelings about any scars. In fact, it’s rarely I even think about them or seem to notice them, even when I look in a mirror. Your Mom gave you the perfect advice though. No doubt she was a very special lady. I’m truly sorry she is no longer with you and I’m positive you have an amazing smile ....💕

Lester you did a good imitation of Woody the Woodpecker. Several years years ago I had a woodpecker build a hole in the huge willlow in my in my backyard. Then they built a nest and soon they had baby’s. One afternoon after the eggs hatched, and soon in the middle of a beautiful afternoon with no breeze or clouds that section of that tree fell down suddenly. The tree section was covering both the upper and lower patio was covered with the tree,it tore down the electric to the house broke the patio table a small statue, the clay burning vessel, and the section holding the nest. The parents flew off and during the night something took all babies away. The tree guy asked me to come outside, and told me to look at my grass, and it was moving all over my backyard. He told me that when they took down the tree, earwig poured out of the tree and to put down insecticide so they wouldn’t come in my house. That tree might be infected with insects and could come down like mine. If you have a structure nearby, you might watch and consider trimming it back if nothing else. Good luck.

Jami, I suggest to put down "stepping stones." You can get them from Lowes, Menards and any gardening stores. You can get them in different color stones. This gives you access to your plants and weeds when needed.

Woodpeckers usually only go for trees that are dead or dying, that’s what attracted bugs they eat on. I have pileated and red headed woodpeckers. Pileated woodpeckers are so big compared to others. They will also make holes and put acorns in the holes for winter feeding! Wonderful to see the eagles, mating season is starting!❤️🇨🇦

Lester, I heard thEagles when you first came out focused on Tina. We have a nesting pair here every year at the lake near us. Plus I watch them on live cam in various western states. Kitties need to duck out of site when eagles are around. Love Stella and she loves her goats!
I like woodpeckers! I like to watch them peel bark off going for bugs or making nest in trees. We have had a couple of nests here. As long as he doesn't strip the inner bark it will heal. He is going for bugs & grubs.
    Stella is a good dog!
Best check your fences for escape holes.
    Cheers 👍💕

In Syracuse NY, we have tons of amazing Eagles living by our shopping mall that borders Onondaga Lake. They started appearing years ago because the water there is warm coming out of the treatment plant. They can eat there all winter/year. It's a real event as people gather each day to see them

I think when this video came out coming home from a doctors visit there was a bald eagle that was in the ditch then it flew right up in front of my car which i thought I was going to hit it on the highway with all the rest of the car's around me. There have been time's when I was so close to them in person. One came down at me going into my car at someone house and then coming home from work in the morning it was right in the middle of the road eating something besides fishing all the time. I love seeing them so much. Loved the woody sound Lester which it sound just like him. They would peck on the side of my mom's house with the real wood shingles all the time. Then my mom put up a fake one they never came back.

Oh what a beautiful morning... It is very pretty there. Nice garden area. I'd adore to have some of that kale! When the kids I helped raise (sister and two of my cousins), were little they were intrigued with how dull green kale would instantly turn the prettiest bright blue green! I'd serve it buttered with lemon juice. And they would eat it up! Finances are tighter and tighter for us these days. We're older and I'm disabled, city dwellers. Not ever going to feel right being out of the country life. You kids are soooo blessed. So glad to see Jami running around doing so well now. We don't mind woodpeckers in our brick home...but growing up? Oh my! My daddy tried everything to keep the woodpeckers off the pecky cypress siding he put on our beautifully built home he designed. It looks as if the wp is working up a line of sap...sap can be sweet depending on the tree and season. What an exciting start to the day! I'm just now getting up!

Lester that absolutely was the call that Woody Woodpecker made. Woodpeckers drill into the bark to eat grubs and bugs that are underneath. They don’t eat the bark. My ex and I used to have them living in the woods at the back of our house, they also will eat peanuts and seeds from a feeder. As a kid I loved the Woody Woodpecker cartoon. I think that Jami is going to have to grow a lot more of that kale for the ostriches if they need luring back to their pastures 🫣

Lester, I think you’re right I think that is from the woodpecker. I think he likes the taste of that tree or there’s bugs in that tree that he wants.

Trees are pretty resilient.. like everything they are actively in the process of dying but doesnt mean they need to be cut down.. I’ve had professionals, say a tree needed to be removed and 20 years later its still standing strong.

  • @Gems-of-Hope-Rocks

Going into winter, larvae are plump and delicious (if you're a woodpecker), and it's these juicy morsels for which the woodpeckers will strip the outer bark from the tree, sometimes starting at the ground and working all the way to the top.
If the extensive pecking off of the bark goes all the way around a tree, it can cause damage and death to the tree. To protect trees from woodpeckers, wrap barriers of 1/4 inch hardware cloth, plastic mesh, or burlap around injured areas to discourage further damage. This method may be practical for high-value ornamental or shade trees. In addition, wind chimes, mirrors (that reflect larger than the source), and cat nip are all non-toxic ways of scaring off woodpeckers. Also mount fake owls 🦉 & eagles 🦅 to scare them off. They are a federally protected species so no lethal methods, not that Lester would ever consider that anyways.
    💕

This is what I found about your woodpecker. Woodpeckers remove outer layers of bark so that they can more easily punch their beaks through the remaining bark to get at the tasty, plump larvae underneath.Apr 3, 2018
