As we've shown in previous episodes of the JL JOURNAL, improvements have definitely been made to the front
Dana Advantek axle housings that comes on the all new Jeep JL Wrangler. Granted, they are nowhere near what you'll find on a Dynatrac ProRock 44 but there's no denying that do come with beefier end forgings or at least, compared to what came on the JK Wrangler, have thicker brackets and even have slightly larger diameter tubes. But, what about what's inside? In this episode of the JL JOURNAL, Jim McGean, the owner of Dynatrac will show you what the Dana M186 and M210 gears, bearings and other important internal components look like compared to what you'll find in a ProRock 44. We hope you find the information in our video to be useful.
This is the 3rd in a series of JL JOURNAL's that we've made to help educate people about JL Wrangler axles and why you might want to consider a Dynatrac ProRock 44. We hope that you'll find them to be informative. Please check back soon for our next installment.
As usual, the best Jeep content on the internet
Thank you. We're flattered you would say as much :)
The crush sleeve eliminator is a must-do upgrade whenever you open the gear set! Worth every minute of additional initial set-up due to the time it saves anytime you need to remove the pinion nut for some reason... Great video as always! Thanks!
Great video again. On a side note, Torq Masters Industries( manufacturers of the Aussie locker, lunchbox style lockers) has came out with its Torq Locker for the Advantek 186/ Sport/Sahara JL front axles. Also, ARB has also released their Air Lockers for the Sport/Sahara JL's too front and rear, no application for the JL Rubi yet tho from my research👌🙏
Love the channel! Keep up the great work. Always an interesting discussion to decide if you go with a Sport and upgrade axles and T case by using the money saved from buying a rubicon or just build up the stock stuff. Dynatrac are great axles, but you end up with about a $5k package per axle factory built with ARB lockers and gears. Good problems to have...
This has been a great series! I’m looking forward to the rest of it.
Thanks Clay, glad to hear you've been enjoying the series :)
Really diggin these technical videos with dynatrac!
Awesome, we're so glad to hear it :)
Great info, very informative. Thank you Eddie, Cindy and Jim!
Awesome! So happy to know you found this information to be useful :)
Informative, thanks Eddie
We're so glad to hear you say as much.
Super informative, ProRock 44 certainly at the top of my list.
Glad to hear our video was informative to you :)
You have some awesome friends!! I totally enjoy these videos!!
LOL - awesome. Fortunately, I've been lucky enough to do this for as long as I have and met some great people along the way.
Digging this new little series of videos, very informative. thank you guys!
So glad to hear you've been enjoying it. We've got more coming your way :)
My favorite JL channel!
Thank you. We're flattered you would say as much.
Best Jeep channel imo
Oh, lets see now... several video's highlighting Dynatrac axles. Looks like Eddie is working on a nice FREE set of Dynatrac axles for the JL. Can't say I blame his either. He's earned it.
This type of info and comparisons arent super easy to find in concise video form. Keep making these kinds of vids man and you’ll be the Jeep lovers encyclopedia
LOL!! Thank you, we're so glad to know that you've been finding our videos to be informative :)
Definitely feeling 1 or 2 new axles coming for yall's JL haha looking forward to the install video!
LOL!! We hope you tune in again and see :)
I'll make a prediction, and say we're going to see some new Dynatrac ProRock 44's on the JL soon...
LOL - could be. Please check back again and see :)
great video!
Thank you. Glad you found it to be useful :)
I have a Sport S with Dana 30 front and Dana 44 in the rear with 3:45 gears. Looking to regear to 4:10s..is there a Ring & pinion MFG currently making a set for the JL's?
Honestly, you won't really feel enough of a difference to make it worth your while. It's only until about 4.88 that it's worth it.
Thanks for getting back to me
. may have just saved me $$
That’s what i want on my jl lol great infos buddy
Thank you. We're glad to hear you've been finding our video series to be informative :)
Wayalife i hit like on your videos before i even watch them lol , been watching your videos for years and they’re all great 👍
Awesome. Hope you have a great weekend :)
So when do you install the pro rock 44's in your JL? ;-)
LOL!! Truth be told, it's already installed :)
Did you go to 4.88? 4.56 or did you keep 4.10?
Actually, 5.13
So getting ready for 40" tires? 😉
LOL! I wish. On a 44, we'll break something for sure.
Is Dana a different brand then the one in the JL?
AdvanTEK is basically the name for the new series of axles from Dana/Spicer.
Yup, what Stuka87 said
@@Stuka87 What's the logic behind that?
@@jeremy8715 Behind having a new name? Just marketing, and makes it easier to tell the axles apart. Nothing between previous D30/35/44 axles and the new ones is the same.
Crush sleeve in the trash everytime!
JK wins again!
Everytime i watch a colab video with you guys and Dynatrac, I literally makes me wanna buy Dynatrac axles more and more. Love their company and their employees, their products have proven themselves again and again. Im not saying companies like Currie and Teraflex are bad, but I would most definitely run Dynatrac axles in my Jeep over theirs anyday of the week. Just need to save up some more dough for Prorock 60s for my JK!
Dynatrac is a great company that prides itself on MADE IN THE USA. This as opposed to "designed" and or "assembled" in the USA as some companies will try say in an effort to hoodwink you into thinking it's the same. We're glad that you enjoy the videos we've been making with them :)
Dude from Dynatrac is amazing!!!
Jim definitely knows his axles :)
really love these kind of videos. so much info :) as a jeep noob it's great to hear why one over the other.
Awesome, so glad to hear it. We hope you'll keep coming back for more :)
So you just took me to the late 80's. I used to work with Taper bearings in speed reducers. Eddie you always seem to bring good video's. Thanks!
WAYALIFE+Dynatrac=awesome!
LOL - thanks Casey :)
good videos.. after watching them all, is the conclusion that the JK Rubicon Axels are stronger than the JL Rubicon ones?
Oh no, the JL axles are bigger and stronger. What's being compared on this video is a Dynatrac ProRock 44 for a JK. Not even close to being the same thing.
Another excellent video and great information. I love learning new things. I’m definitely getting the pro rock 44 housing for my Rubicon. Thanks again.
Thank you, we're so glad to hear you've been enjoying the information we've been sharing with you :)
Great video thank you!
Nice tech video. Is this just your way of hinting that you are getting a new front axle soon?
LOL!! You'll just have to tune in to future episodes and see :)
Thanks for another awesome informative video, a lot of good to know info.
You bet, we're so glad that you've been enjoying the series.
Love your videos, but to compare the Dana 30 (Advantek M186) ring to the ring of the Dana 44 is just not a fair comparison.
Not sure why you'd say that. People with a Dana 30 are the only people who should be considering a ProRock 44.
Awesome video again thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Loving this series with Jim and Dynatrac.
Awesome, we're so glad to hear it :)
Outstanding job performance good thanks
Great info. Thanks for posting this.
You bet. We're so glad you found it to be informative :)
@@wayalife I mainly do install videos on my JLUR on my page, hopefully be fixing up my CJ-5 soon. I love your CJ-5, very awesome. The last snow video with it was great. . It is cool how you get to go out with these manufactures and do interview like this. Showing people whats out there. Very cool. Keep up the good work!
The size difference is significant, so is the price.
LOL!! I'd be the first to say a ProRock 44 isn't for everyone. But, for those who are in need of one and can afford it, I think they'll be happy to know they have it as an option. :)
M226 JK instead of M210 JL
Awesome. I have owned jeeps in the past but never really “wheeled” them. I am either going to get a new JL or possibly wait for a gladiator. I feel like I am learning so much with all your different videos. Ok I have to ask. So do you put stock axels back in or does it come with new cro molly or something. I’m greatly enjoying everything I am learning. Thanks Eddie.
If you were to get something like this, a ProRock 44, the only things that get reused are the knuckles, ball joints and brake assembly. Depending on how you order it, you could reuse the stub shafts as well but otherwise, you would need to get new axle shafts. Unfortunately, RCV's are the only thing that is currently available but other u-joint options available in the near future. We're glad to hear you've been finding our videos to be informative and helpful.
My question is, how do we not disturb the crush sleeve tolerances when changing a pinion yoke?
Well, if you have a high end inch pound torque wrench, you can take a reading of what the preload is on your axle prior to removing the pinion nut. When you reinstall the nut, you use a generous amount of red loctite and make sure to ONLY tighten it to your preload setting plus maybe 5 in lbs. at most.
Adventech 186? Huh? Why the name change?
If I recall, the 186 is the diameter of the ring gear in millimeters.
Great series of videos. Hope there are more to come.
There are. Please check back tomorrow :)
So being on a limited budget and can afford only 1 at a time....which axle makes more sense to upgrade first?? The front or the rear?
Honestly, I might recommend that you just save your money and play with what you've got until you need to replace what you have. That might be never. However, if you're wanting to be preemptive, the front axle is what I would recommend.
The disadvantage of doing one at a time too, is you have to keep the same gear ratio. Not sure if you want to change it but something to consider if you do.
Why not just go with the Dana 60 then.
Well, for one, the ProRock 44 is more affordable. For two, it's smaller, lighter, offers more ground clearance and offers a much better turning radius. A 60 would be nice for running 40's but not everyone wants or needs to run 40's.
If they used the JK as a starting point, does the JK have the crush sleeves like the JL?
stock JK axles do have crush sleeves, yes
Yes, from the factory, it's faster and easier to set up a gear with a crush sleeve.
