Mitch Richmond arrived at Kansas State and I first saw him at a party with his teammate Big Charles, I thought he was a tight end or defensive end. I had no idea that he played basketball. But once he touched the basketball court EVERYBODY knew who he was. Danny Manning definitely found out who he was. I saw Mitch put the clamps on Danny Manning. Was a great and laid back dude in college. He deserved all of the accolades that he has gotten.
This guy is on my "All Underrated Team". When they talk about the top shooting guards, his name never comes up. I'm sure most people didn't even know he was in the HOF.
No, he's been called underrated so long now that it's actually gotten old. I grew up in his heyday. He got his props at the time. Mitch Richmond isn't underrated and any decent ball fan knows he's a HOFer.
Back in his days in the league, players did have the power to decide where they wanted to play and what teams they wanted to be a part of. They just hadn’t realized it yet. Free agency is exactly that! You are free to negotiate and move forward with whatever team you can strike a deal with, even if it meant playing with former rival contenders. They had a different mentality back then where they didn’t see themselves as the product or the brand. They allowed management to dictate the paths of their careers. And some time management was lousy, leading to players like Miller, Ewing, Malone, Stockton and Barkley retire and without championships. A great change usual he takes one brave person to go against the grain. Enter LeBron.
Blame Don Nelson for the breakup of Run TMC. He fell too much in love with Billy Owens (thinking he would be the next Magic Johnson) who had a mediocre career at best.
