People complain about everything being made in China, but when they’re presented with something handmade in the US of obvious quality, the price tag blows them away and they pass.
Beautiful smoker, and congrats to the people who can afford one. I'm sure it's going to be a awesome. ...I can't afford Franklin's beast, so happily it'll be getting a "Pits by JJ".
@@Charles53412 The Temp gauge placement is a farce!!! You can say this and that about the temp gauge place. All you need to know is how your smoker acts at what temp, with it's specific gauge placement. I mean, after all, Aaron has changed is gauge placement over the years, so who's to say, he has it right?
It would be cheaper to buy the material, AND take a community college class on welding than to spend $5k on a BBQ pit. I only know this cause I did it myself.
Chances are it isn't as good and the fact you probably made it out of all the same gage metal like 99.99% of the home builders do, which is a improper way to build them. Temp gage placement is key too, which everyone over looks and places in the wrong spot. Not counting the proper size stack to burn a good clean fire.
@@Charles53412 I used Feldman's online smoker builder calculator. I built a reverse flow cabinet smoker that would put these to shame. I took community college welding classes but am self taught as a fabricator and in FCAW as well as MiG. No issue in using same gauge throughout build. You have no idea what you are talking about. He put the grease cup on the wrong side and his temp gauge placement is incorrect, in my world. Should have four gauges at rack height. Keep smiling, ignorance is bliss. I'm a doer and I get shit done, unlike you.
$5,150 for a grill !!!!!!!! WOW!!! I thought the price for Goldees for $4,250 was still too much. Though they look nice, I will just still to my pellet smoker. These should be priced at $2,500 but what do I know!!!
Surprisingly these pits aren't that great. Small diameter and the door prohibits you from fully controlling air flow or shutting it down easily. If you're on the fence, get a Mill Scale or a 1975.
I am certain these are quality pits, however, at this price point, are we paying more for a name or the actual quality.??? Meaning if these were not Franklin pits would the price be significantly lower?
@Rob H find out the type of steel and gauge, call a local steel supplier and you will see. It varies from supplier to suppliers. Most fabrication shops have accounts with material suppliers and get it much cheaper then the general public. Other then the price it is a good looking smoker to bad there not priced for the common man, but at least there made here in the mother land 🇺🇸
@@RodStiffinton Aaron Franklins burner account. I have a Lone Star Grillzs 20x42 and it now retails for $2,400. Awesome backyard pit. I just bought a Primitive Pits 500g. Their 500’s on skids start at $6,800, only $1,700 more. The Franklin, Moberg, and MillScale 94 are priced very high, because they have a name and there are lots of people who pay for names and reputations. Not saying it’s right or wrong. Shit, they can charge $10,000 for all I care, but they are respectfully expensive.
@@thesailingtourists Well, you can get a 100 gal, 250 gal. or 500 gal. propane tank for $100 or even free. That's the biggest expense of his smoker. $225 dollar stick welder (and that's a good Lincoln cracker box) and $50 in welding rod. $100 for a DeWalt or Milwaukee grinder. $50 for cutoff and grinding wheels. $200 for supplies (welding gloves, hood, etc), and that is over kill. Get some scrap pipe say $100. Just add in $500 for extra material, and there you go. $1325, and now you have a home project. Most of those number are higher than what it would actually be, and on top of that, you now have tools to use for other things!!! (Most men worth their weight, have most of these tools anyway.)
The Franklin pit is not worth 5 grand. If Workhorse can produce a 3/8", 24"ø pit for 60% of this price, how come it is so expensive? Oh it is a fashion brand! Got it.
Dang $5150 is lowered price? It looks nice and all, but sheeeesh. For 5K you’d think it’d at least have a top rack, log starter, or something. I mean this thing is really just a bare bones offset pipe smoker.
Just made my own. Found a thick tank and thick furnace firebox. Into it for $500 bucks for chimney and the cart parts. Made it very similar but little longer Almost free
The Volunteer, the TMG pit most identical to Franklin's, begins at $4,500 for a 52" long cooking chamber. TMG also sells a bacon press for $50, and burger press for $40, and a charcoal chimney for $100... OH! And a $200 tortilla press.
Damn I was not impressed and for that price you can get much nicer American made pit. I’m looking forward to seeing what Goldiee’s new pit is priced at. Much bigger, unique design that is supposed to cook very evenly without drying out edges like most offsets do and it’s supposed to have excellent smoke flow. Not sure what they will cost though. Maybe you can do that video when they drop.
I'm all about American made.....but that pit is no where worth that price tag. Have a 24x48 Lone Star Grillz on my patio with way more real estate and paid the same price. Pass
Well with the price materials and labor, plus the fact it's built properly and Franklin ships them free anywhere in the U.S. Really isn't to much at all !
That’s ridiculous!!! 5000+ for a smoker just because of the name!?! Do yourself a favor! Find an older Old Country Smoker for 2-300!!! They’ve lost their minds price gouging!!!
That's $5000 of "you're out side you're damn mind".
I love it that the price is '5150'. Van Halen fans know what that number means.
😜
Now a Mammoth fan.

Well yeah, because this is pure greed charging the prices he does. Flat out horrible.
Yep, they complain about everything being made in China, then they drive to Walmart to do their shopping - where everything is made in China.
You can get very good quality hand mad Pitts in Tx a lot less than this
So what's your guess on supplies, labor, overhead, and profit?
Exactly!! Americans can't afford American! Or they're always bashing the price! I can do it cheaper, yada, yada,yada...
$5,150.00 ? Isn't 5150 cop code for insane??
Van Halen's music studio...
Looks like I'll be looking at the workhorse 1957, they actually have prices that are somewhat affordable. Franklin pits are way too cool for me.
I’m looking at the same exact smoker. Such a better value.
Beautiful smoker, and congrats to the people who can afford one. I'm sure it's going to be a awesome. ...I can't afford Franklin's beast, so happily it'll be getting a "Pits by JJ".
Cheaper to have a son, raise him, and teach him to weld.
😂 I did just that.

JUST PLACED AN ORDER FOR MY FRANKLIN SMOKER GOT IT FOR 4750 dollars
Nice cookers,
Nice price. 👀
I purchased Kamado Joe. The largest size. 600$. Oldest version number 1. It is handmade, more quality materials.
I sold my kidney for Made in China iphone. I should have waited for Franklin smoker.
Really enjoyed your video ,thanks for sharing , looking forward for more videos , stay connected !!!
Thanks!
I really want one of those for sure💪
5200 dollars? No thanks, but a aluminum 9.5 deck Dart block, I'll buy it, lol.

Used Propane Tanks that can be gotten for FREE - just to haul them off and YES over $5,000.00 for a Portable Pit.

Pitts that shouldn't be more than 2500 max. Taxing folks because of the name. Makes me bitter towards Franklin, the brisket king
ok please answer me two questions. first how much money is it in just material?
second. how many hours to build one.
