Great Video - Thanks for running this solution in Vanilla ONI. I generally like the idea of Mods, but have always tended to be a purist, running games in Vanilla as much as possible. ONI is probably the first game that I have whole heartedly embraced Mods. I continue to be amazed at your engineering skills that show through in your wonderful and sometimes crazy ONI contraptions. Meanwhile, I struggle to keep my base in pure oxygen past 100 cycles, but I watch and learn. Just imagine if Sweepy had access to elevators!
Every time I start to get bored of ONI, I see one of your videos and it inspires me. Glad to see a use for sweepy like this as I want to use him, just it doesn’t feel efficient most of the time
If that is the case might it be possible if you access it through a diagonal corner on the bottom? You wouldn't be able to use the door trick to toggle it, but couldn't you use a duplicant checkpoint instead to toggle access?
Hey, FYI Brothgar If magma solidifies into igneous rock and the pile lands on top of an existing pile, the temperature of the newly created igneous rock will equalize with the igneous rock already on the ground, which deletes heat. You can use clever usage of mesh tiles to force the magma to be ejected out the corner to prevent it. I believe it was TonyAdvance that has a video on the subject of merging piles and heat deletion
I was thinking while watching this video that it could be really cool if you would work toward making a super cool base incrementally in the style of these experiments. Each video will add a new segment that solves some sort of problem. After a few videos you would have a crazy base that each system feeds off of each other and would be organized chaos. Just a thought.
@Brothgar, AWESOME video! In my game I'm playing, I just started making steel. I wonder if instead of a petroleum boiler, I should go with a Magma/Metal Power Station...
I want this game soo bad, I'd love to get to a point where I could use friggin volcanoes to power my base! Edit: It's you Brothgar that makes this game look so fun, thanks for the videos!
You should setup a second stage steam room that takes the 200 degree rock and cools it with the 95 degree water output by the steam turbines. Then use doors to pump the steam in the second stage back into the first steam room. The second stage could also use a conveyor rail and kick material out once it reaches 105 degrees.
On my current playthrough I have 3 gold volcanoes that I want to tap into without building steam turbine on top of each. There is a special method with liquid pump in vacuum. Dropping 5 g of water activates the pump every now and again. I found it too unreliable and unnecessarily complex. If sweepies dont melt under 2800 celsius (liquid gold) then its a game changer. Thats actually good find Brothgar. So if I make sweepies out of liquid gold I should be able to carry that gold to where I need it too. Hope it works.
This is really cool and has a lot of interesting and useful applications for sweepy's and other stuff in general but I cant help but think that the setup you used for collecting metal from a volcano in your Oasis playthrough is more space efficient. Still quite enjoy the vid. Apologies for somewhat necro-ing your video
7:21 why though? The magma will heat it up, but the steam that it's in contact with will cool it down. The liquid lock will be near the same steady state as the steam it is in contact with. And with two of them and a vacuum in between, there's no "who cares about heat loss" either.
Yes it does lol first comment I was looking for was this one. I already built something similar in my survival map (no sweepy) and had to make the injection point out of niobium (the rest steel) it’s weird his items aren’t overheating. And I had 100kg of steam per tile. It’s the initial injection that gets things overheated.
The only issue I keep running into whedn using blueprints, is if your on a map that say, uses a forest biome instead of sandstone.. the resources differ and you end up not being able to make the lot. I really wish the blueprint mod would allow us to change up what resources are selected for each thing inside the blueprint.
possible enhancement? put the material output inside the steam turbine room, fill the room with hydrogen, air lock entrance, cooling loop will cool the material even more, and materials are closer for tune ups as well.
I can see this design improved by utilizing an industrial sauna as to allow for much more thermal mass to be introduced which would in turn reduce the amount of heat spikes in the system. Also industrial saunas are pretty rad! On another note would thermium/insulation pipes be capable of pumping liquid metals through? If so you could reduce the amount of heat being leaked out immensely by simply having the dupes put the liquid metals into a pool to be picked up with a pump, then just pipe the metals into the sauna. Better yet do a system similar to how you would usually tame a regular volcano (keeping the metal physically separated from the steam chamber) and have auto-sweepers pick the material up when it drops bellow a certain temperature threshold. Edit: I wonder if theres any new interesting ways to do a sour gas boiler with sweepies now
It's just after 6am. My kid has had me up for 2 hours already with a bad throat. And I'm giggling like a deranged sleep deprived school girl within 10 seconds. "Is your magma running" 🤣🤣🤣
not sure if the method i have been using is sufficient but i wanted my sweepy bot to exclusively sweep up the igneous rock since i've been using it as my standard building material so i put an automated door to prevent it from entering the chamber when the volcano starts spewing lava and then once the steam turbines have sucked enough heat up and lowered the temperature the sweepy enters
Since in vanilla you cannot use autosweeper to deliver bottles, could you instead use a door conveyor system instead? The dupe drop the bottle using the drop-off building (do not remember the name but it is the one you use with the sweep only command for your centralized drop zone) and when it detects something (or on a timer), the doors will move the bottles toward the steam room. Also, as I said last week, I tried turning off for your channel my ads blocker. But in this video, there have been an ad that lasted for nearly 3 minutes. Is it something that you can configure on your side? I do not mind 30s to 60s ads but near 3 minutes is a bit too much :)
There are other methods to do what is trying to be accomplished. For example one line that runs 10 steam turbines at 850 kw constantly without sweepy and without dupes constantly running back and forward. This build revolves entirely on sweepy lol which might be a limitation.
sooo in reality i think geothermal power works kinda similar, just without the sweepy and the bottles? have you tried just tunnelling down to a volcano or the lava core and dripping e.g. polluted water down, then capping the hole with a steam engine? maybe then add an autosweeper or something to pick up the dirt (which i think is what polluted water produces when boiling?) and feed it to a bunch of meal lice or something. might be able to turn a volcano and a toilet into a way lower maintenance power+dirt generator that way, just have the materials do the shipping for you?

Probably doesn’t melt because liquid iron is already liquid. So it might have a check disabled for phase change or something? Melting point might have gone infinite. Further. If you dropped the materials into your sewer water before it’s consumed by a filter or peppers or whatever, or oil before it’s refined to petroleum, you Can further reduce its resting temperature.

Can't you automate magma delivery to the steam engine room and seal both rooms so that heat doesnt escape? Can you ship magma via conveyor rails? Awesome idea btw
Is it worth rearranging the steam turbines to be at a lower level vs the heat magma sources so that the dupe only uses the fire pole to get there? I feel like on occasion you might get an unhelpful dupe drop their bottle because dinner time is just too important.
Hey Brothgar, may i ask you how you deconstruct things immediately in sand box mode? I try it but it just commands my duplicans to do it instead of just breaking in up, and the other option is destroying everything, but sometimes i don't want to do that.
Does this still work, I get so many problems with this. First it was not being able to select the liquid metal, which turns out was because no dupe could reach it. The main problem though is that the sweepy is melting pretty much on contact with the liquid metal, I tried with gold and steel.

I know you're really trying to make Sweepy part of this, but wouldn't this be infinitely better without Sweepy? Download the blueprints mod from the works shop, then add blueprint files into C:\Users\{USER}\Documents\Klei\OxygenNotIncluded\blueprints
@@brothgar Ok thanks.
Can someone explain the cooling system for me ? I mean the setup and how it work i want to build this system in my base
what CAN'T Sweepy do?
Melt
I know you're really trying to make Sweepy part of this, but wouldn't this be infinitely better without Sweepy? You could have the system be closed, just rely on magma dripping to get to the right spots, so you're not bleeding heat like you are. You then wouldn't have to use any power, so the power generated is pure profit. And you then wouldn't need to dedicate an entire dupe to make this happen.
sybrwookie you can beyond what you’re stating just mix a few things from Francis John, tony advance and gearhead gaming builds and you will win lol - edit: but yea there are definitely better builds and sweepy is a limitation
You can make jumping airlock forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/88906-improved-liquid-airlocks/
tumps up for the picture to copy it :D
Can I get an f in chat for sweepy? He now has an overheat temp. F in chat.
couldn't visco gel work perfect for a gas lock?
if it does not get too hot visco is a good option.
I don't see an advantage to this compared to a normal volcano tamer...someone clue me in?
