Tiktok isnt even all that they do, they've got a pretty diverse portfolio and I can only imagine the amount of money a tool like this would save them in the long run considering that an average developer in Bytedance is now essentially a 10x developer and actually good programmers are even better, they save money by lowering labor hours and probably laying off a bunch of entry level devs once they have something mature. There's a slow shift in LLM handling occuring. Since GPT-4, the concept has revolved around the idea that the "smarter" model is the most capable one, therefore it should do all the work which has a lot of downsides: 1) it's unnecessary to fill up context with simple tool calling results and other noise, esp since almost all LLMs start degrading performance heavily after 64k context 2) on the flip side, it's a waste of tokens and money to have large models output content that isn't necessary for the task like code that hasn't changed. That's why Windsurf uses a fine tuned 70b Llama model for grep, regex, terminal results etc. I think most of this year, the biggest boosts to AI performance in coding tasks will come from smarter engineering regarding their interop with IDEs and sandboxes

It creates high CPU usage on pretty simple builder tasks and creates a bunch of connections to their servers while chat outputs nothing... Like it searches for something on your system in collaboration with their server algorithms. That make sense why they make this product fully free (until they get what they want)
I totally would be interested in the complicated workflows you've setup with Cursor. I get the argument about not giving bytedance & co your code as a reason not to switch to trae but I'd really be more interested in the workflow complexity you have working with Cursor. I like Cursor the most so far out of all the options but I still feel I could do better with it.
You don't need Cursor. Cline is all you need. Type this in R1 'Outline in high detail, what the most advanced coding llm in the world would keep in mind as a senior developer working on highly efficient code bases' then take the response and add your custom cline instructions and Cline will perform better than Windsurf, Cursor etc. Your custom prompt will make all the difference

I've use TRAE for my project. they display the names of models like Claude and ChatGPT, but in reality, they seem to be using other free or less advanced models behind the scenes.
I have no experience with AI IDEs, but after trying it I have to say this can do easy stuff that is boring to do and getting that for free is amazing. Enjoy it while it lasts because it's surely not going to last very long.

There is a broad, perpetual license that allows reuse for service improvements and “business operations.” The platform can share your code with third-party providers. We need a private or self hosted version of this for it to be really viable for developers. I would not recommend putting any real code on this app unless you are okay with you code being used elsewhere for whatever purposes deemed necessary.
Once a windows build comes i'm happy for it for many things. Free ai, looks nice compared to cursor, and its just like vscode with ai in it. Assuming we get an update to use a local/custom llm then this will be one of my go to choices.

I don't use it, so someone can verify.. Claude 3.5 sonnet is not more expensive than the other models on the market and is generally less expensive than GPT-4o for input tokens, but the same price for output tokens

NeoVim ruined me with hotkey muscle memory, and the only editor w/ a vim mode that doesn’t violate that muscle memory and is virtually impossible to configure a fix to is Zed.

Started using it. Because its a chinese company, it kinda scares me. Makes me want to try cursor. I'll pick cursor when the start charging for this.
