Masterful storytelling by Morissette: "WHEN THE SILENCE ISN'T...quiet." [She turns the volume way down on "quiet"]. "And it feels like it's getting hard to breathe." [She uses a more 'breathy' effect as though she's struggling to breathe]. "And I know you feel like dying." [Again, using a 'breathy' effect to convey that desperation, then a 'cry' effect on the word, "dying"]. The storytelling ability is what makes her so captivating to listen to.
This is the best "Rise Up" she's ever done, IMO, followed by the "Love Gala" rendition. She basically OWNS this song. Her tone quality is even better now (i.e. richer, darker, fuller). Her run-offs and melismas are even more polished. The resonance quality is on another level, especially when she enters that C5-E5 pocket. The "movement" of her voice is even more refined. She's polishing her vocal instrument, as expected. As I've said before, she's on that ALL-TIME GREAT trajectory, in terms of pure vocal ability.
There are so many excellent Filipino singers. I just wish they’d focus on singing original songs rather than singing cover songs. I suppose, this is what the local audience clamors for, but they’ll never break out of their home country because of their reputation as just cover singers, no matter how good they are. Tyla (from South Africa), Rosalia (Spain ), Anitta (Brazil), Carol G (Colombia), Laufey (Iceland), and Fil-Ams like H.E.R., Bella Poarch and Beabadoobee have found some measure of fame outside their home countries, and not a single one got her start as a cover singer. Morissette made a valiant effort with her all-English album of original material, but reverted to her repertoire of cover songs eventually. Sarah Geronimo, so far, is sticking to her guns and avoiding covers for the most part. I hope she gets her big international break soon.
