    I started WoW 2 weeks after BC launched. My brother was just going through the portal whilst I was in thousand needles. Every so often he would come to me to show off his awesome looking items and regale me of floating island in a beautiful meadow or spiky mountains with dragons impaled on them , giant mushrooms in a swamp or a massive robot that walked around stomping on people. I was so fucking jealous it fueled me to catch up . Felt like months later I was in a 10 man split raid in Kara racing to win and learning Gruul council positioning, swimming down a long tunnel for my first SSC run , being a rogue in MH and fucking hating all those with AOE... just a great fun time with nothing handed to you .

    Selling runs does have a negative impact on both other players and the game itself. It literally, in practice, actively reduces the amount of players trying to form groups on their own or even going out in the world to quest, because why do that if you can just wait in a capital city for someone you can pay for a boost? So it kills the joy and interesting dynamics of forming groups and finishing dungeons by your own efforts. The trade-off is not worth it. Yes it's efficient but it kills the heart of the game which is leveling, interacting with other players and going out to an adventure in the world. I have never once gone out of a paid boosting session and felt "wow that was fun" or a feeling of accomplishment and reward.
    It always sucks, and it will always suck the joy out of the leveling experience. (It also creates unnecessary class imbalance as it gives too much power to mages, but I digress.) I think it should be banned or at least be properly restricted, for example have it so that you can only be paying for a boost once a week(I haven't given too much thought about a perfect solution, but it's absolutely not a hard problem to solve). It's fine to be boosted or to boost someone every once in a while. But the whole playerbase should not be able to abuse it as much as it has been in classic, since the whole experience is designed to be more than just the end game - that's one of the main reasons we want to play classic expansions.
    Also ban botting obviously.

    He knows selling runs is bad for the game, of course it is.
    he just wants to do it so he can level up alts quickly.
    The real truth, is any idiot would know it's bad for the game. It's irrelevant weather it's a player
    choice or not within the game, or out of it. If someone can get 100 gold instead of 1 silver for a kill they will.
    But since the game wasn't designed around that % things go by too quickly, suddenly
    every vendor you used to buy things from now is worthless.
    Power leveling enables the Chinese farmers to bot it up even quicker.
    you're going to see allot, and I mean allot of them more than in vanilla.
    power leveling through a dungeon has become random dungeon finder for classic.
    It's abbused in this way and worse. The degredation of the questing aspect of the game is potent.
    "Those who choose to quest will do so still" No, no they won't. because they don't want to be left behind.
    So Most people who wanted to level slow, who wanted to level through the game will now take the fast
    route so they aren't left behind.
    I think asmongold is cool, but on this he is very VERY wrong. he's also happy with the boost to 58 as well, pleased about it .
    Also says there is nothing wrong with it. It's clear he just wants to be able to get quick levels for the sake of content, and getting it done quiclkly.
    It is not good for the game in any way, and therefor it can and WILL only do harm.

    What amuses me around this part is that alot of the chat seems to think farming up 10k gold before TBC release is ridiculous and/or too hard.
    We already know with high certainty that TBC will launch sometime in summer, with datamining hinting at prepatch coming in mid-late May. That realistically gives us around 2 months before TBC launch, probably even longer. That's minimum 2 months of farming enough gold to buy both base flying and epic flying - which together cost around 6k gold - before the expansion even comes out.
    So frankly: Those people that are OmegaLuling and raging at Asmon's comment - they probably don't realize how much gold they could earn in 2 months if they were determined to earn it.

    my issues with selling runs dont actually have to do with goldselling. zones and dungeons became barren. you could barely play the game unless you bought a run, and even then thats paying someone to play the game for you while you don't play.

  • @VideoGamesRus100
    @VideoGamesRus100 3 года назад

    The problem with selling runs is when the Xpac is halfway through, and I want to do dungeons etc. on an alt, but there's only 2 other people willing to run because everyone is getting boosted. Not only this, but the player base hits cap level, and gets geared way faster, resulting in not only more time gaps where there's low player population, but bots getting to cap faster, and building alt accounts faster (for when their main account gets banned).
    If boosting should be allowed, buying gold should be allowed.

  • @111Hansel
    @111Hansel 3 года назад

    Yes, selling dungeon runs to power-boost is emergent behavior. But it's behavior that many games intentionally prevent because it trivializes the content of the game. And that matters. I'm not blaming the players for playing the game the way it's given to them. But Blizzard should prevent power-boosting for the same reasons many games prevent power-boosting. This is not a novel concept.

Unless he immediately starts to dungeon grind (which is pretty boring content after a while) I have to wonder what kind of nightmare Hellfire and even Zangarmarsh will be for him when streaming. I can already imagine how impossible things such as the Ring of Blood will be unless he has half the server backing him up.

    I disagree with Asmon here on how selling runs doesn't encourage gold buying with real world money. There's 2 things that happen:
    1) The person making gold off the run can be a legit player just doing that to make gold. However there are PLENTY of bots doing runs with wall hacks. flying, and other shit that breaks the game that build up that gold to sell for real world cash. That gold is built up to strictly be sold along with rogue pickpocketing dungeon mobs and other botting processes that make gold. The demand for boosts keeps the income flowing in.
    2) A person with a main character who just wants another toon at max level probably has gold on hand. A fresh player joining the game? They are stuck either leveling alone or getting a boost. They don't have gold. They check out some gold selling sites and see it's not as expensive as they thought so they spend some cash to get gold to get carried to 60 via boosting. I'm not suggesting EVERYONE does this but it is a thing that happens.
    The economy in WoW Classic has been fucked because the influx of gold that has been brought in from bots. 10k Gold in 2004-2007 meant you were a god. Nowadays GDKP runs auction off gear for that much. There was even a 198k bid on Gressil back in December. Boosts are just one part of a major problem that corrupts Classic. There are many other factors such as the bots,GDKP runs, and the min-max mentality causing consumables and the mats that make them to inflate to unbelievable prices.
    To those who say: "Just level normally, don't do a boost!"" That is for sure an option but when your buddies and their guild are all max level doing nothing but raid logging it's hard to stay engaged with the content. The majority of players who are max level currently probably have been since P1/P2 and had an actual community to interact with. These days generally people just level an alt with a boost which feeds into the cycle I mentioned above.
    Now I have heard some servers have come back to life with people leveling toons in preparation for TBC which is great! The problem is what will happen when most people reach max level and aren't leveling toons 2-3 months into TBC? I think the issue will be even worse. Attunement is no joke and having an alt go through that discourages leveling another character. This will make the leveling pretty dead, especially with Blizzard offering an official level boost to 58. Once again your option will be to get a boost from a mage/pally and who knows how much that will cost.
    I went on a bit of a rant here but overall I just think boosts(both dungeon and blizzard supported ones) are unhealthy for the game in general. They discourage community interactions and encourage the already insurmountable amount of bots to keep chugging along. As I said there are other factors that go into this but boosting is definitely an issue. At this point however I don't think there is a solution other than Blizz getting better about handling bots and fresh servers without a broken economy popping up.
