    A quick tip on the router--if you buy "compression" bits, you will get a clean cut on top and bottom of the cut. These bits combine up cut and down cut spirals on the same bit. They are designed to make the cut in a single pass. And then down cut spirals for machining pockets. Even with perfect feeds and speeds, an upcut spiral will splinter on the top surface, so the right cutters will make a big difference.

    I'm Surprised that you guys chose to continue using the plastic PVC pipes for the Outtro of the first lift-gate, considering their history of failure. What I would suggest, if you want to keep the marbles as visible as possible on their journey upwards, is to have the outtro pipe be made from a series of metal wire, akin to the catching gates, or like the marble tracks in a pinball machine. Alternatively, you could use a similar structure of wood to achieve the same result if the metal proves to be problematic due to the magnetized marbles.
    I'm no engineer, but I do like to think practically, and I appreciate the work you guys have done on MMX so far to bring it to a playable state! Thank you for keeping at it, and I look forward to next time!

    • @Koffeinsuechtigi
      @Koffeinsuechtigi Год назад +3

      @@AlexerXodiaczoderia, one of the issues with metal rods as tracks is that they don't always want to constrain the marbles the way we would like them to, take the escapement gates as an example ;)
      As we knew that there is a point where pressure can get high when too many marbles are arriving at the mrl1 outro and should get out, it was the question of where we want to have the weak spot that will give. We don't enjoy that pipe breaking, and we modified the outro/intro quite a bit over time to get it to behave, but if something has to give and spill marbles it's better to have it happen there, where dropping marbles tend less to fall into the gears but rather down next to them.

    • @AlexerXodiaczoderia
      @AlexerXodiaczoderia Год назад

      @@Koffeinsuechtigi Also a fair point. I just was thinking about what could be done to make sure it _doesn't_ break, but being able to at least _control_ where it can break is a decent alternative.
      Worst case scenario, you just make some spare pipes as backups in case one fails.
      And in either case, the work you guys have done so far is really impressive. The solutions that you guys have made so far have not only retained the visual aspect of Martin's ideas, but they've also more practically solved issues that the MMX had with simpler or more straightforward solutions. I look forward to seeing it play once you guys have it working fully!

      Basically you try to stay close to the design intent without compromising functionality if possible.
      MMX is an interesting case here since its intention is to be finished, so you don't have strict limitations from a collecting standpoint.
      MM will be quite a bit trickier in that regard.
      Martin gave up any decision making around MM & MMX which is quite astonishing in itself.

  • @FelanLP
    @FelanLP Год назад

    Before I continue watching, I have a question. And I don't know why this wasn't the solution Martin went for in the first place. The pipe broke because the lower wheel turned faster then the upper wheel, feeding more marbles then the upper could handle.
    So, if the upper wheel was already at its maximum capacity, why not reduce the amount of magnets in the lower wheel?
    I means the problem is simple.
    It's all about taking x marbles per y time. It's not about holding marbles at the same time, its not about transporting or rotation speed, it's about taking marbles out of the system.
    The lower wheel needs fewer magnet to reduce the amount of marbles it can draw so it hands less over to the next wheel and not overloading the pipe in between.

    • @FelanLP
      @FelanLP Год назад

      Some second later: they used this exact solution.

    • @Koffeinsuechtigi
      @Koffeinsuechtigi 11 месяцев назад +1

      The thing is that it's also not too bad to have an intentional weak spot there that gives and is repairable. If it's the pipe that breaks then the marbles tend to spill more next to the gears and less into the gears. If the pipe is not the thing to give and the "pressure relief" was to happen somewhere up-stream then the marbles spill into the gears which brings another host of issues with it.
      Currently, the pipe is - touch wood - behaving, though! :D

    It shows how flawed the MMX was when you have to fix the 3rd part ever made.

      Grundsätzlich geht das schon. Am einfachsten wäre es, wenn du über Discord nochmal anfragst. Da antworten dann die passenden Leute.

    Voiceover guy: you need to practice a little English with a big peice of carrot between yout teeth(trick from theatre practice) before you record, because i can't understand half the words you say. You know the language very well but you swallow half of them.
    The other people might have a stronger accent but at least you can understand every word

      I hope the subtitles help in that case ;)

      Will definitely need to do some practice. And speak quite a bit slower. Though the footage for the next episode is already shot so it won't change by then I'm afraid :)
