Grow stuff, build stuff and repeat Mike the Fit Farmer and Family have been doing all of the above for several years now and they have gotten so much better at it. Another very good episode of the video collection. I'm one fan of the channel who is able to say that through the highs and lows through the journey I'm so grateful that you have shared so much of it with us all 👍

On washing the eggs it would probably take less time to get a small aquarium pump, put it at the bottom of a bucket, put all the eggs in there, cover with cool water and a little baking soda and turn it on while you go about other chores. All that baking soda water gurgling about is going to both soften the "dirt" and actually bubble some of it off where all you would have to do is give each egg a quick swipe instead of having to lightly scrub to remove it and it would save water. Just a suggestion.
The water should be warmer than the eggs. Cooler water makes the egg contents contract, possibly pulling in bacteria from the shell surface through the pores. 😊
@@rebeccaplumlee9601 depend on your intended usage. I made the assumption that with that many eggs and since he was cleaning them under running water his intent was that these eggs were for consumption only whether for his family or for sale and would be refrigerated. Not suggesting that to be the only way to clean, just that is how I would be dealing with really dirty eggs.
I raise khaki campbell ducks and now magpie ducks. My magpies are a little too young to start laying but my four khakis are champs at producing eggs for me. More often than not I get four eggs daily. Soon my oldest magpie girl will begin laying. Then shortly thereafter my slightly younger 3 magpie girls will also start laying (I'm talking total age gap is only a few weeks). I should soon be getting close to 8 eggs daily. I'm so excited! And yes, I plan to incubate and hatch my duck eggs for more ducklings.
When i had more than 1 of a breed, they kinda "flock" together the runners no matter color, Buffs together... But the lone of a breed would either join other lones or join with closest color/size.
Question for Mike: My one Khaki-C drake, in spring, just mauls the back of my 5 hen's neck, while attempting the mating process... Any advise on how to keep the hens neck clear, as their feathers are now missing.. and skin exposed... Help!
Their mating is kind of rough. And the males will grab the back of the head and neck of the females. 😬. I know it may be tough to see at times, but it sounds mostly normal.
I was told that you can set posts by pouring dry cement into the hole and the moisture from the ground will solidify it. Would that work in your area? In Indiana it worked well for me.
I remember post hole diggers. I don't remember if I ever used one, but we had a couple. As much as lumber costs these days, any you can harvest for yourself is much more economical. 😊😊👋👋❤❤
Question. Is your family seventh day Adventist? Asking Bec I am also Adventist and have been hearing for years that ducks are not clean and we should not mess with them (eating or otherwise)
I enjoyed this video! We aren't permitted to have ducks where we are (and really do not have enough space yet) but I've been researching ducks for our forever farm. With the information you've given, I'll be reviewing my previous notes to possibly add these two breeds into my barnyard mix of ducks. Because of religious objection to eating fertilized eggs, I was actually looking at raising Muscovy hybrids (with certain kinds of ducks) that produce sterile offspring. The sterile offspring would be divided by gender - drakes for the freezer and duck hens for eggs that would never be fertile. I really like Muscovy for their temperment and relative quietness, as well as their parenting ability (according to my research, at least). Anyway - thank you for sharing this information about the Kahki Campbell and Welsh Harlequins.
Hey that Duck pen that you kept slipping in should be better maintained as that is not a healthy environment- yeah rain does not help but I have started using builders grade sand & boy what a difference.
@@MikeTheFitFarmer i have 11 geese, approx 120 chickens and 3 khaki campbells.. but after watching this video i went onto ebay and bought some khaki and welsh harlequins hatching eggs i'm just about to tell my husband . wish me luck
I can't find to speak to you personally. I'm planning on taking your course but I'm still a year out. Issues within my family,. Where can I find your website?
I get duck eggs from the food pantry once a month all the ones I got last month were double yolks I love them scrambled and also making French toast and good for baking.
Have you had a challenge with familiarising your clients with duck eggs vs chicken eggs? One learn over time of the benefits of duck eggs, but in our community it is almost unknown and therefore requires a brand of marketing that need to be next level. How did it work for you?
Hi Mike.. are you Seventh day Adventist? Asking as an Adventists i have been told thay ducks are not our kind to treat with.. live yiur videos nonetheless

I'd wipe not wash... Washing removes the bloom.

Good Evening. Nice video. Ever thought of adding talapia to the duck pond? Talapia likes duck poop. They would get big quickly.
Hmm. I actually have not. I will have to look into that.
I love duck eggs for cooking especially baking
What are some of your favorite things to bake using duck eggs?
@@MikeTheFitFarmer anything chicken eggs are used in pastry, cornbread, whipped up and used as egg wash for French toast. Or whipped.up as omlete
Authentic French bakeries use only duck eggs for their baked goods!
Awesome job, guys 😊

I'm not sure. But it would he very hard to mix the concrete in the hole. And the concrete would probably harden on top but not lower in the hole.
Nice vid
Thanks!
You need body scub gloves, usually used to exfoliate when you shower, to wash eggs.

Wow that’s a lot of eggs. Never have had a duck egg before but wouldn’t mind trying them
You should try them! Another of people like to bake with duck eggs.
I might check where to buy them
I love this channel😊
Thank you very much! ☺️

Wonderful!

You're right. That's why I took them out of there. 😁
❤
Muscovys aren't really a duck, but they are my favorite bird.
They are pretty neat
Are your ducks effected by short long days when it comes to laying?
great video x
Thanks Deanna!

Do the eggs taste different for each breed of ducks
I personally don't taste a difference. But the egg shells can vary slightly in appearance.
Have you had a challenge with familiarising your clients with duck eggs vs chicken eggs? One learn over time of the benefits of duck eggs, but in our community it is almost unknown and therefore requires a brand of marketing that need to be next level. How did it work for you?
How are “Peekins” different from Peking Ducks?
From my understanding, "Peking Duck" is a recipe from Peking (Beijing). I have read that it means roasted duck. And can be made with any duck.
❤❤❤❤❤
Do ya have a duck named Tom? Cuz he sounds like a turkey in the background 😂
We do have 3 turkeys, so that is who you are hearing.
@@MikeTheFitFarmer turkey eggs are my favorite, always a challenge to crack em without breaking the yolk lol.

After washing those eggs need refrigerated!
That's where they went.
I bet you’re thinking why did you take me so many years to decide to make such a nice enclosure
I am. I try to rotationally graze our animals. But it makes things easier to have stationary areas too.
Get some cleates.
😁 we can play some 🏈 with 🦆🦆🦆
