    Tack Johan!

I have come to the same conclusion: cranked shaft leads to a more stable paddle and this leads to less strain on your wrists on long distances. The down-side is: I do not always want a stable paddle, e.g. when manouvring, side-ways paddling etc. all that technical stuff, where the blade is moved sideways through the water, puts more strain to your wrist than with a straight-shaft paddle. The same effect can be felt, when you compare a straight-shaft euro paddle with it's spoon-shaped blades and a flat faced Greenland paddle: the self-stabilizing of the bend blades (and their wobbling when moved sideways...) leads to a tighter grip and thus more strain.
All these paddle types have their advantages of course - and it seems a matter of taste on which one to settle. My wrists liked Greenlandblades best for more than 20 years, but feel fine with Euroblades now and I like the greater efficiency of the Euroblades and the lower strain of a cranked shaft. Best to try all three... :o)

When I used to make my own greenland paddles I made them unsymetric, with blades pointing slightly forward. This made them better for paddling but worse for back-blade-action like stern rudder, low brace and some of the rolls.

It is all a matter of personal preference I think. Personally I have been paddling for 46 years now and never felt the need to switch to a bent-shaft paddle

No paddler really need a bent shaft. Simpler is often better.
