@Bobby B Well he was trained among Brits in their schools and after studying in London , he definitely would have thought himself to be at level of British. Early account of life does portray his Racist behavior in SA. But Train incident opened his eyes to the world, he likely ignored due to his privileges. The man did change and got to the right view and path. Taking down Statues doesn't bring down the stature of man's deed. Today's world is too soft and dumb to recognize that crying over past deed, All should be working on doing right today to have better Tomorrow,. If you ask me i would suggest to take down all the statues in the World, they serve No purpose. Keep them in Museums, After that done, start with Religion !

that's not true and nothing is as bad as declared in this comment. Only fanatics (from both sides) are divided. People who hold the capability of making criticism, being objective, and having the courage to state regarding the governmental policies what is good and what is not are not divided, because they do not let fanatic political engagements undermine their reasons.

No matter what people say today...Gandhi Ji had huge power to mobilize largest chunk of human population. Today even with internet and social network we cannot do that. Take the example of swach bharat. It could not mobilize people to a great extent, which we intended it to be. Try to ask few people in your neighborhood without using telephone/social networks, to gather for a noble cause. Then you may realize how difficult it is to gather and convince people. Gandhi Ji has inspired a large number of world leaders and. Nelson Mandela, Martin luther king, Barack Obama, many noble laureates as well... Gandhi Ji will keep on inspiring many...

Obviously he was granted that by the British. In a British government do you really think they wouldn't be able to cotrol one old man? They obviously saw he was influential, his influence was starve, non violent and keep your mouth shut which was perfect for the British government. Churchill wanted Indians to keep their mouths shut and starve to death, hence all the famines in India. Gandhi this figure was advertised cleverly. World wide interviews were allowed. Americans interviewed him!!!! If the British government wanted to shut him up they would have done so easily. Read what they did with Bhagat Singh and company.

Just like a when kid is told not to insert his fingers in a table fan, if the kid is intelligent he will not insert his fingers. But a dimwit like Gandhi, would insert his fingers in the fan only to find out it will hurt him. Where is the need to experiment, except for dimwits ?

He could unite rural Dalit, urben trader and women together for a cause like Indian independence. He could inspire people of all classes, castes and religions together. it's ironic that he didn't want it in writing, when I went to find a book about Gandhi the last book is it if he did write a book it was a slim a thin book his last book and he I understand that he wanted to avoid in his teachings and words twisted.
      like Bible.
Gandhi wanted his teaching to be more than that like you are doing here to comment about it for it to be.

One man sacrifices his own life for the sake of humanity and world harmony. Sadly this world has too much problem due to people never learn their lessons. Because of greed and hatred caused by delusion, people still keep fighting each other again and again. Rest In Peace Gandhi and thanks DW for sharing this invaluable piece of history.
